It had amazing and controversial results. It was shut down in 1988 as the people playing it, for personal reasons, decided not to pass it on too others. I, however , found it to be an incredible simulation that has far reaching potential as a complex role-playing game. Now what is it? You may ask. Basically, it is a pseudo-political science game. Set in a furture where star travel is possible and the potential to do things is only limited by the player's imagination and the politacal hierarchy aboce them. THE HIERARCHY: Emperor: rules the universe, has power of creation; obscure and eccentric Lord Chancellor: has the powers of the emperor except creation Imperials: have the powers of the Lord Chancellor, but limited to thier solor system Emperor Council: regular being who compose the demorcratic (i.e. powerless except by thier own defined weapons and abilities Planet Owner: can build up extensive military and finacial forces Moon Director: this is where a player starts FMC Controller: sells and dictates parameters, policies, and availability of military hardware FMC Represenative: answers to controler, but can sell military hardware within thier own sector I started playing in 1986 as a Moon Director. By 1987, I was Lord Chancellor in charge of 3 sectors and 9 solar systems. At the time, 40 people played and each system created it's own flag and system banner. Meetings were held and, at special times all characters came in full dress. We were up to 37 different species. Planets are documented by the players as well as the characters themselves. Sector Imperials "OK" character definitions ( so as not to upset the balance of the game ) as well as magic and scientific weapons. This game is fundametally based on the ability of the players to believe and create thier own worlds. Many combat systems were used ,however, as the potential of the game was explored, we no longer borrowed ststems but created our own original systems. The beauty of this game is that it creates its own history and outcomes are never known until they happen. At the game's end, we had about 1900 blocks , 2 help librarys on our VAX/VMS computer system. All that is gone now except for what the players remeber. But the concepts still exsist.
