Fall 1902 Press: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ German Official News Agency (GONA): The Keizer has declared war on England. The English Monarchs attempt at turning all out the European western powers against each other has failed, and they have united to liberate the common english man from the tyrrany of the current Monarch. The Keizer strongly support the Russian liberation of his mothers homeland Norway. Quote: " The Russians have allways been our friends, and we are pleased that they are now beeing invited to coffee by our relatives." The Keizer views the situation to the south with concern. He wants to co-operate with his fellow German speaking Austrians, but has to take measures to protect his borders from the Italian bandits. He does admire the Italians courage. Not everyone dare attack three major powers with only four units. The Keizer hopes for a continued close relationship with the King of France in our liberation of England. In the Olympic Games, Greeks ran races, jumped, hurled the biscuits, and threw the java. The reward to the victor was a coral wreath. The government of Athens was democratic because the people took the law into their own hands. There were no wars in Greece, as the mountains were so high that they couldn't climb over to see what their neighbors were doing. When they fought the Parisians, the Greeks were outnumbered because the Persians had more men. Eventually the Ramons conquered the Geeks. History call people Romans because they never stayed i one place for very long. At Roman banquets, the guests wore garlic in their hair. Julius Ceasar extiguished himself on the battlefields of Gaul. The Ides of March killed him because they thought he was going to be made king. Nero was a cruel tyrant who would torture his poor subjects by playing the fiddle to them. What I can do is hold off Russia and Italy until you get your units in position and finish me off in a quick stroke. That way they don't get any of my sc's and also will make you more powerful. If you can hold the Ionian, you can pretty much prevent any Italian intervention and push inland with your armies. England ------- England to Germany: Looks like we might have a working alliance now. Thanks for the support into Belgium, but I anticipated Frances stab at the English channel, and I had to take countermeasures to make sure that I was in the channel rather than he. Hopefully you will again support me into Belgium. (Hope you liked Sweden.) How well do you trust Russia? A couple of his units are not too far from your back door, and would you be interested in pick up some of the pieces if Russia falls apart? (Together I mean.) I don't trust Turkey to stop bashing on Russia, but one never knows. France is bigger than either one of us, but not bigger than both of us. About the North Sea, I know it does look down on some of your territory, but England can not operate efficiently without the freedom to move into and out of the North Sea. Do you want to cripple your ally that way? I will not use a unit there to attack you without at least a turns warning. If I ever move into Skagerack or Helgoland without your invite, you may consider that an act of war. (And I try to be a bit clearer on things than Turkey is.) England to Italy: Look how long it took France to break the DMZ he suggested that he and I establish in the English Channel. Yes I also broke the DMZ, but I had provocation. (If you look at the previous 2 turns (f+w) you will see that I had good reason to expect France to break the DMZ. My warning, don't trust France. England to France: Germany had taken a hostile looking posture on your border, you rejected an alliance offer, what can you expect but war? England to Russia: Sorry about St. Pete's, but you look like you were sinking into a Turkish quagmire (all his press to the contrary). I find it hard to see a destroyed fleet as a peace offering from him. England to Turkey: You talk a good peace, and fight a good war. England to Austria: It seems that you are living in interesting times. Good luck surviving. I'm glad I don't have your neighbours. And if I do get them, I hope its by me going to them, not them coming to me. France ------ France -> All: Does anybody understand Germany's press??!! France -> England: You mistake me. I fully intended to cooperate with you... or at the very least, to stay out of your way. The fleet in Brest was for the purpose that I stated--I was making an attempt to retain Belgium. I think it's a mistake for you to give supply centers away to Germany. There aren't many supply centers in France to divide up, and you will be a target of a strong Germany. I think our cooperation could have been a good one. France -> Germany: I have no idea what you're talking about. Your press is confusing (but not blathering!) and contradictory. It's obvious that I should've taken Munich when I had the opportunity. By the way, BTW stands for by the way. And it was *so* stupid of me to get 3 builds! Wo! France -> Italy: THIS IS NOT A STAB!! I would like permission to cross the northern reaches of Italy in order to bring pressure to bear on Germany from the south. You guys are otherwise occupied, but Germany is gaining the upper hand because of lack of force from your direction. I consider our non-aggression pact to be in effect. No movement other than to Tyrolia will be made. In fact, I'll be so bold as to request support into Tyrolia in the spring. I'm sure I don't need to point out the problems a strong Germany poses to your northern reaches. I could sure use a friend! France -> Turkey: I still think you blather, but you're in a much better position than I am, so carry on. Of course I read all the press! It amazes me how you can be a true and faithful ally to Russia, Austria and Italy. This is truly a new ability for Diplomacy playing. I will definately stay tuned. France -> Russia and Austria: Got any ideas about the Kaiser? Germany ------- -England: Exellent play indeed| You did the right moves. But you were a little suspicous about my intentions regarding Belgium. To be sure I supported you into Belgium this spring, in case you didn't trust me that much. Now you did (thank you). Now that you understand that I have to hold in both Holland and Ruhr in order to avoid a french army in Germany. I fully understand your need to fill out the missing unit in Liverpool, so why should I deny you that request. I will not build any fleet in return of no builds on the east coast. I don't any more fleets than those for the defensive purpose I already have. But now about the future. Your army should be in Norway now, if you haven't been too greedy and Russia too foolish. It would be good if you supported my GoB-fleet into StPetersburg. (I don't consider StPtersburg a English territory.) It may fail, btu I will surely return to this unit later. Your fleet in Belgium is a little misplaced despite our efforts to get it there. I hope you agree with me that you can't hold Belgium for the rest of the game. To get a real demilitarization I think that Belgium should be a German property. I fully understand your needs for a new SC and to get pressure on France, so I will despite all the others hope not take it away from you. I think we can discuss this matter rather freely in this medium. My main objection against you owning Belgium is that we actually use at least one unit to protect one SC. Further, you need you fleet more south. But I wont take it before the time is right. What you can do with your f fleet on Picardy and Brest is much more than I can with my armies. -France: I suspect that you are in Burgundy by now. Why? You will never get into Germany by your own, and England won't backstab me as long the French hoards will gain more than the English navy. So if you will get anything out of our situation you should draw back your forces. We really need them elsewhere. After all it's you who has been hostile. I have never done anything agr agressive against you. All what I have done is pure selfdefence against the brute force method of supporting yourslef into your beloved Burgundy, While I was peacefully walking around in my Eden according to my press. Please have some tolerance| -Russia: Couldn't we try to arrange something similar to the agreement you and Turkey had about your fleet in tha Black Sea. Then you and I can be allies. I think that I want StPetersburg. At least I will try to get it. But think of it. Russia is big and rather valueless, and as Turkey I think it is too much space to protect and a rather small gain compared with the efforts in conquer you, if I succeed. -Italy, Austria and Turkey: Have YOU heard that frenchmen actually eat snails and use garlic in a non-medical way? Italy ----- Italy -> Germany: You need not worry about my army in Venice. I need it to protect Trieste. Italy -> Russia: Good luck against Austria. Italy ->Turkey: I am not attacking you. Are you attacking me? By the way, if you take Greece before I do, you can keep it (-: Russia ------ Russia -> Turkey: Thanks for Sevastapol. Rumania has certainly left me without a smile on my face. You still have the task of convincing me of the sincerity of your alliance to deal with. Your current staffing situation is such that at most you are an annoyance to me, but I do want to see some moves that make it clear that you harbor no hostil intentions towards me at this time. Russia -> Italy: Those sure were classy moves you made this past turn. I hope Larry lets your support go through if you support the wrong army into Budapest although I kind of think that at this stage it shouldn't matter. Russia -> France: Well, it looks like England has established a pretty firm alliance with Germany. Too bad Germany is so untrustworthy. I'll be glad to do what I can to help you in your glorious campaign against the vile huns. Turkey ------ Turkey -> France: HOWLLLL! HOWLLLL! English Channel DMZ!!! HOWLLLL! You had better start blathering to England. I'm going to enjoy reading your press this time. Turkey -> England: I see you are fishing different oceans these days! Turkey -> Germany: And you are too! Turkey -> Austria: I am still honoring our alliance, and I do not plan on violating it. The Turks are honest people. And the Sultan is kind. Why does France hate me? I think I'll go eat worms... We've got to find a way to get you out of this hole. I know you've got to be uncomfortable with me behind you, but I am obeying one of my many Dip commandments: Thou shalt not covet thy ally's supply centers. (For those of you that think I sinned when I took Sevastopol, I'll note that Russia and I weren't allied the first time when he was busy asking Austria about turkey dinners. This turn? Well, I'm not sure if he wants to be my ally. I think he'd like to see my turkey balls hung out to dry). Anyway, maybe Russia or Italy will back off soon. A Russian-Italian alliance is forming against us. You can expect no trouble out of me. The way I see it, if you go, I go next. I was going to support Budapest this turn, but I figured Russia would cut it from Sevastopol anyway. I hope that you supported my F Eas-Ion this turn. If I am now in the Ionian, I would really appreciate it if you wrote F Gre S TURKEY F Aeg-Ion next turn. However, if F Eas-Ion didn't work, I'd like to see F Gre S TURKEY F Eas-Ion next turn. If I can get into the Ionian, I can take the pressure off of Greece and Albania. Then you could move out of Gre toward Trieste. I WILL LEAVE GREECE ALONE. You may have lost Budapest this turn, unless your visitors goofed. I don't think there was anything we could have done about it. But hopefully neither of your visitors got any builds this turn, so we are at least dragging them into a quagmire. Turkey -> All: If I'm eliminated, I still get to hang around and write press, don't I? (GM Note: Sorry, but when you're gone, you're gone...) Turkey -> Russia: I hope that you haven't tried to take Rumania back by force. I would also appreciate it if you'd leave Austria alone. I still want to ally, but all that I've been hearing is distrust from you and offers of a Russian-Italian alliance. The best thing that could have happened this turn is a standoff in Rumania while Budapest remained in Austrian hands. Rumania would have remained yours. If you were intent on taking Budapest, then I should have both Rumania and Sevastopol now. So by picking on Austria, you are making me stronger. Don't you have better things to do than pick on Austria? We've got to discuss how we are going to get along. I've continued to knock around down here in the Black Sea and vicinity. If you want my help, I need some assurances that there won't be any hard feelings over what has happened so far. And as far as your question, "Who are you going to attack?" goes, the answer is France. I truly want to leave you alone, but I want to be sure that you won't whack me over the head. Turkey -> Italy: I took a poke at the Ionian in order to help my Austrian friend. I doubt that the move succeeded, unless you didn't write F Apu S F Ion H or if Austria supported me. My fleets are being used to defend Austria and myself. If by chance I wound up with a fleet in the Ionian, I ask that you grant it safe passage as it journeys to Iberia. I have asked Austria for support into the Ionian because I doubt that you will permit me to embark on my trans-Mediterranean journey to France. You have been nice to me, and I would rather pay a visit to Siskel and Ebert than bother my friends. I want to leave you alone because I want the chance to harass my critics. I would also appreciate it if you and I could cooperate and this talk of a Russian-Italian alliance would end. Italy is not the only country that my fleets can attack. Of course, you would have to trust me enough to let me sail by. Austria trusts me. You can trust me. Russia doesn't, but that is no surprise and it is worth pointing out that he provoked me. He and I are trying to reach a settlement of that mess. You have not provoked me. And we all know who HAS provoked me lately. HOWLLLL! Well, enough blathering for this turn. ANONYMOUS: ---------- Greenland -> World: In response to Turkey's question about the grey press, I wrote it.
