Looks like Russia won't last too long. Italy: feeling a bit pinched? Germany: If I didn't get into Vienna this turn, could you support me in the spring? That is if your army is still in Tyrolia :) England ------- -> Germany: Sorry I had to go to the North Sea, but it was the only way to get out of your way in Belgium. I have no intentions of taking any of your supply centres, and it would be suicidal for me to do so anyway. It also seems like Russia has decided to bow out, this makes Turkey an immense threat since he has largely profitted by this. We can't let him make any further progress up North. -> Italy: My moving to Western Med is not meant as aggression against you, but is needed to bring an extra unit to bear on the Iberian peninsula. I am more likely to give you support than to attack you. I would rather have you alive between Turkey and myself, than you dead with me having a (very) small piece of it, and Austria and Turkey getting the lion's share. -> Russia: I really don't like seeing someone commit purposeful suicide, it can really spoil a game. I especially didn't expect you to do it in Turkey's favour after all the problems he has caused you. -> France: I don't think Germany is going to lay off you. France ------ France -> Germany: Based on your stated offer, I expect that you have not made moves against French territory. N'est-ce pas? I have withdrawn from your borders and do not want to attack you. France-> Italy: One of the reasons that I retreated from the north of Italy was to show you and Austria how much danger lurked there that you were ignoring. Now you're offering to help Germany! Very foolish. You are next. I had to pull back to bolster my defenses against England. France -> Turkey: I haven't been very good at convincing anyone of anything lately. The German threat is screaming in everyone's face, and they expect France, in my rather feeble condition, to make it all better. Well, I may be first, but he's coming your way. I really can't believe that Italy and Austria seem to be the Kaiser's chums. Of course, I've missed the boat almost exclusively in this game, so.... Here's to stamping out gibberish! Unfortunately, I can't help much right now. Of course, I'm SURE that Germany stuck with the offer of non-aggression and pulled back from my borders! France -> England: Can't really let things go that easy, now can I? I'm sure you want a challange in your invasion. France -> Russia: Sorry to evacuate the area...I feel that I've left you in the lurch after initiating that course of action. Hopefully you can hang on for awhile. We're both in deep do-do. I'll try to help when possible... as you've helped me. Germany ------- Germany -> England: I hate to say it, but I'm beginning to think we really do need to leave France alone. If the 3 of us continue to fight, Turkey will walk over all of us. What if you moved to Wes and then proceeded East to help Italy? Perhaps we could convince France to put his fleets in Spa(sc) and either Mar or GoL and help, too. Just a thought. Germany -> France: Not much to say. I don't like the way this war is shaping up. Sort of "damned if I do, damned if I don't". Italy ----- Italy -> England: I am trying to prevent Turkish fleets from moving westwards. Any help would be greately appreciated. Italy -> Germany: Did you support me in Trieste? I guess not )-: Italy -> Russia: Your moves in spring 1904 were, hmmm... interesting.... Good luck, whatever you are going to do. Italy -> Turkey: A Tri - Vie? HAH! I rather retreat to Vie (-: Italy -> World: Am I going to let France and Germany fight each other in Tyrolia and Piedmont? Yes, I am. Russia ------ Russia- All: It's been a hellacious week and a half around here. Things are back to normal now, so I should be able to get my moves in on time for however many seasons I have left... Turkey ------ Turkey -> Austria: Although A Bud-Tri looks like the better move, I stuck to support of A Ser-Tri since that was what I said I was going to do. I played the chicken and the egg game with that for half an hour before deciding to stay with what I said. Hope I did the right thing by sticking with the A Ser-Tri support. If not, we'll get it right next time. I had no idea Russia was going to what he did. I've about had it with Italy. He's not listening to my proposals. He sits on his hands while his ally France gets beat up by England, and then he offers England help against me. It's about time to start eating pork and beans and create a westward wind. Turkey -> France: Well, it's become obvious that Italy isn't going to help you. If you stick around in Piedmont, could you help Austria and me against Italy? You could support Austria into Venice. Or if Austria didn't get Trieste, you could just ping Venice to kill the support. Italy hasn't done a thing for you in this game, and he doesn't seem too concerned about your fate. Heck, maybe Austria will support you into Venice and let you get a build to aid your defense. Turkey -> Italy: You are running out of time. Please give my proposals some serious thought. You have completely ignored my press. You ask for peace between us. I tell you fine, just leave Austria alone. But you keep screwing around. I'm maintaining my presence in your vicinity since you are not withdrawing from Austria voluntarily. If we throw you out first, don't expect us to ease up. I did not attack you again this turn - just supported a move to get you out of Austria. There is still a chance that we could work together, but it gets smaller with each passing season. You are wasting a chance to form a valuable alliance. Turkey -> England: Just do it! Turkey -> Germany: I hope that I haven't ruined a chance for our countries to cooperate. If England won't stab you, how about you stab England? His fleets are busy with France. You could sail over with your two and pick up those eastern ports of his that worry you. Turkey -> Russia: I don't know why you did what you did, but thanks. That one turn had an effect on the entire board. Wow. ANONYMOUS: ---------- none. I can handle Tri now so hopefully you've moved F Alb - Adr so later you can take Apu or something. Nice going with Russia Germany: I'll support you to Ven in the fall if you attack Ven or don't support Tri in the spring. Sounds like a deal? England ------- -> Germany: I think you may be right about calling off the war with France, assuming France is willing to agree to do so. I also agree that right now, Turkey is the bigger threat, he was a big threat before, but with Russia having suicided, he is definitely the largest threat currently existing on the board. Of course, this does make you army in Gascony look kind of silly, then again it looks a little silly anyway. I am wondering which you are going to disband, A Gascony or a fleet up north, GoB or Sweden? France would be happier if you disbanded the army, but would the control of the fleet in GoB be more useful, say against Turkey where Russia used to be? I assume your move to Berlin, is headed for Kiel, and then stopping the Turkish invasion from that side? In that case, you should probably move Ruhr to Belgium in either Spring or Fall your choice. If your press indicates a continued attack on France, I will write my spring moves that way, which will still give fall to pull out if you change your mind. If your press indicates stopping, and France's does also, I will discontinue agression. Also, you will probably have to support Italy vs Austria. Keeping Trieste looks like a lost cause, unless you can arrange something tricky, but hopefully Italy can be stopped there. Maybe France could move Marseilles to Piedmont, and support Italy to hold? -> France: As you can see from my press to Germany, I am willing to stop the war with you, assuming you are agreeable to this. If so, I will probably move Western Med to Tyrr, hopefully with Italy's support, in order to at least block, and maybe even force Turkey back. A move from Marseilles to Piedmont, in order to support Italy to hold Venice might be something you should think about. -> Italy: As you can see from the above press, I am willing to help you. Best bet seems to be for me to move my Western Med fleet to the Tyrrhenian sea, if you could support me there, maybe with you Fleet in Tunis so Turkey doesn't bounce me, we might even be able to stop Turkey in the Mediterranean. Hopefully France and Germany are willing to go this way as well. Actually, I think the Turkish threat is greater, so no matter which way Germany/France go, I will move to Tyrrhenian to support you against Turkey. -> Turkey: Sorry, you are too dangerous to choose as an ally. -> Austria: Nothing personal in my attempts to organise against you, but you are currently allied to the biggest threat around, Turkey. I know you didn't have much choice in the matter. Unfortunately, I can't see you changing sides. Oh well. If you ever do, though, you'll be welcome on the team. -> World: Unless something strange occurs, this is beginning to look like it might end in a stalemate or big draw. Anybody else think this? France ------ France -> Russia: Bummer...sorry to see you go. Tough to stop _3_ advancing hoards. I still owe you a support...perhaps next go-round. France -> Germany: Is that what you call stopping hostilities? Imagine that, breaking your word... France -> Turkey: I'm stunned at Italy's complete lack of action throughout the game, and I continue to be amazed at his/her approach. I believe that Italy's attitude is misplaced...however, I'm unable at this moment to ping Italy or anything of the kind. I am interested, however, especially if Italy continues to foster good faith with German Gibberishman. I'll get back to you on this one. France -> Austria: Way to go! Sure wish I could get another build in my lifetime. I caution you about Germany...he's going to eat you and Italy alive, whether or not I'm around. Watch out! France -> England: If I knew then what I know now! Ouch, the Western Med! Germany ------- Germany -> France: I hope that we have stopped quarrell now, even with me at Germany's keyboard. I didn't disband the army in Gascony, (I DMZ'd Burgundy didn't I?) even if it is a little misplaced. But two fleets in the Baltic is both too much and too little. I intend to maintain and increase the stability between us, belive me. What I ask for is a free passage through Burgundy to Belgium, or wherever it will go, (out of your country). I know that you have enough to do without vasting your strength against me. OK, lets face it. We are not the best friends on this board, and I'll do nothing, at least at this point, to help you. But I think as you that the best for us both is to leave each other alone. Germany -> England: It seems that you and I have to stuck to each other more than what was intended. I hoped to end our cooperation when you got St Peters- burg and I Belgium, and you where away from the North Sea. It took much time and I can't see any end of it. As you see, I'm in no position to help you against France anymore. All my efforts are needed elsewhere. But I think that you will manage rather good on your own. The french forward in the Atlantic is only temporary as far as I can see. But of course I must help you if I have to. I hope that you leave Belgium alone. I know that you may need an extra forc in defending against France, but I will take that in consideration. But please respond to it in your Spring press. Please leave this matter for me to decide it finally by moving to Belgium or not. I won't be greedy. I will need your army in St Petersburg. This turn I want you to support my fleet to Livonia as you suggested before. You won't go gainless out of this part of our campaign either. About your fleet in North Sea. Of course I'm paranoic about it in any season. But due to the situation in the world, I think that I can have confidence in you. First, I have cut down my fleet to a minimum, which has destroyed my last chance of backstabbing. This will mean that you don't need and "protective" units. Further I'm the only one who's willing and in position to stabilize the turbulence Russias suicide caused. Actually I feel a little guilty about it. Russia would have been cruched by Turkey, and we wouldn't be able to do anything. But I really hate to have a defeats vaste in my hair. If you attack me, you should know what I will do. I will put together all my efforts and defend a reasonable big area hard. Then I will just sit there and wait for Turkey to win, and hope that I reach a rather good position. Germany -> Austria: I will not attack you. Italy ----- Italy -> Austria, Turkey: OK. You will throw me out of Trieste next spring. Just leave me alone after that, please. (-: Italy -> England, Germany: HELP! Italy -> France: It seems that I can do nothing to help you. Italy -> Turkey: I don't trust you at all. That's why I am ignoring your press. Turkey ------ Turkey -> Austria: Nice! 1904 turned out to be a very good year. We owe the Russian player a favor, some other place, some other time. Now let's see what Italy wants to do. This teamwork is going well; let's keep it up. I built a fleet to help in the south and an army to help on the north flank. This is quite an awkward position - me being all around you - but we are both equally vulnerable. I'm leaving my Balkan dots kind of open, so you could be tempted some day. I guess this is why Austrian-Turkish alliances are rare. Let's continue to beat the odds and work together. The policy of leaving each other's dots alone remains firm. Thanks for supporting Ionian in place. I'll look at your press this season to get a feel for what you need me to do. Turkey -> France: I hope Germany disbanded Gascony. If Germany and England decide to lay off of you and go after Austria and me, I hope that you'll harass them. Your ally Italy wasn't much of an ally - offering aid to Germany and England as they worked you over. I consider the "blathering incident" history and hope that the three of us - France, Austria and Turkey can work together. Keep up the great defense. Turkey -> Italy: I guess you won't retreat to Vie now. Try retreating OTB instead. I'm not going to bother with much press to you this time. I was sincere about leaving you alone and having the three of us work together, but since you won't respond to my press, you've about lost your chance for my help. I'll give you one more turn to decide. You remind me of Saddam Hussein. You've stuck your butt where you don't belong and then you refused to negotiate. Turkey -> Russia: Thanks. Turkey -> Germany: England has moved into the North Sea again, and caused you a disband by insisting on that Belgium-St. Pete swap. Welcome back to the game - hope you had a nice vacation. If you disbanded a fleet in Scandinavia instead of Gascony, I'll help you retake St. Pete if you so desire. I am preoccupied with Italy at the moment, and would like to see peace on what is now our common border. When you left, you were sounding pretty anti-Turkish. I hope that's not the case now. Turkey -> England: You didn't write press to me last time! I feel left out. Your extra build this turn gives you a good opportunity to do some stamping. You'll have an extra fleet, and you are already in position. Hope you remembered not to build on your east coast. ANONYMOUS: ---------- none. Subject: ERIS Fall 1901 results There were no retreats. Thou shalt trust thy friends! Thou shalt trust in me to preserve thou[sic], and thou shalt prosper!" So I have done as he commanded, and Moulinex willing, I shall prosper. -Mixmaster, initiate of the great god Moulinex (c) September 11, 1901 -- The Daily Fneb News Service "I have a great need to urinate." These were the first words of the triumphant commander Marty Siles upon his entrance into the French port city of Marseilles. Reportedly, Siles had been forced to march at the head of his formation for a distance of 20 miles before reaching the city for appearance's sake. "I suppose I shouldn't have had all that French wine after we crossed the Pyrinees," said an embarrased Siles later in the day. When asked about future plans, Siles was characteristically confused, "Well, I guess we might go back and visit the Spanish again. They were so pleasant..." In other news, Admiral Arrah, in command of the Serbian chapter of the Fnebish Legion, has reportedly gone against the wishes of President Fneb by attempting to establish himself as God King of Rumania. A wild-eyed Arrah was seen roaming the shores of the Black Sea last week demanding that ships be built, according to unconfirmed civilian reports. President Fneb could not be reached for comment, and his current whereabouts are, in fact, unknown. In the port city of Sevastopol, the Fnebish commander Severian "Sev" S. Topolnik seemed confused, "I thought that my orders to support cmdr. Arrah's attack were valid. They were signed by President Fneb, but I think now that they must have been forged. This is most distressing." And so, as the last days of Head Guru Terry draw to a close, the eager young students of the Veszpa School of Teleology draw close around his bed. The old man coughs, his eyelids flutter open one last time, and he croaks a single word before vanishing from their sight in a puff of errant destiny... "Murphy..." (Gormenghast Castle) Flail, commander of the castle business, has been appointed chief commander of the Gormenghast Defence forces, as outlined in the great book of Groan. Barnequet is currently reviewing the laws regarding the training of troops against "aggressive" noon-castle dwellers. (Rome) Rome has once again rejected the rule of the house of Roma. Instead, an alliance with Gormenghast castle was requested. The recent troop movements in the area seem to back things up. (Edinburgh) Scotts resumed their age old tradition of musical clan chiefs, with the Zion Tribe assuming control of the clans about Edinborough while the Rom chiefs were raiding the lowlands about York. What will happen next? A further trade? As the tribe begins its regrouping for the long march to the promised land anticipation fills the air. Still defensive manouvers were the norm. "Zion must be preserved" cried the troups. Why is Moulinex messing around in Burgundy they asked? Perhaps it's time for the promised support into Paris! -Athenai- "Midena pro tou telos makarize."
