The ambassadors have been habitually 6 months behind and providing the King with unreliable information. The ambassador to France has twice suggested support that is nonexistent. The ambassador to Russia somehow thought Russia and Turkey would be allied. And the ambassador to Germany... well, he's headed to the guillotine. OK everyone, I've been screwing up for three seasons now. I'm going to wipe the slate clean and start over. Hope I haven't caused any long standing hatred among anyone, but given the unprovoked and unwarranted actions of the KAISER, my German friend and "ally", I have no choice but to defend myself. I do not know what I have done to provoke the Kaiser - perhaps he had a bad spat with England in some other game. But he is no doubt hell bent on taking me out. Anyone wishing to join in his endeavour, feel free to go ahead. I won't last long. Anyone wanting a trustworthy ally, one who is content to just SURVIVE, to remain small and to just be around to watch GERMANY get torn apart, please contact the King through your London embassy. I suspect that grey press will be thrown into this season by Germany. The rest of England's diplomatic pouches will be followed by the notation (ACTUAL), following the country designation. England -> Germany: (ACTUAL) I must say, you have really put me over a barrel. Not only are you driving toward me and prematurely offering all of my supply centers to everyone, but you've managed to put me in a position where I've probably irritated my only other two neighbors and potential friends as well. Being in the channel upsets France, and not knowing whether or not Russia was going to attack last turn led me to shit all over myself as I went into Finland and the Barents. Russia and France may be upset at me, and you are no doubt feeling very smug about your accomplishments, but I want you to know that I will do everything in my power to halt your aggression. The world knows that you have been the antagonist in this region. And if there is anything, ANYTHING, I can do to put a dent in your aims, I shall. England -> France: (ACTUAL) Please excuse the presence of the fleet in the channel. I was not the one who forced it there. I am withdrawing it from that zone immediately. You may be tempted to join forces with Germany, but I hope you won't. I tried for the three-way alliance, but the Kaiser would not cooperate. I would greatly appreciate the continued cooperation between our two countries. If you could help me against the Kaiser, that would also be greatly appreciated. However, I know you have your hands full with Italy at the moment. I hate to think what might happen if Germany gets much further along in his plans. England -> Russia: (ACTUAL) Sincerest apologies for my move into the Barents and Finland last turn. I was not sure what you would do on this front, so I took some necessary preemptive action. Now I find that it was unnecessary, and I want to extricate myself from this Scandinavian mess. This turn, I have tried to leave the Barents and get back into Norway. Meanwhile, I have tried to position myself to entrap the German navy. I will disband the army in Finland over the winter. The disband plus the withdrawal from the Barents is indicative of my desire to restore peace between our two countries. I hope that I haven't done anything to permanently upset you. I think a Russian/French/English alliance would make a good response to the German/Italian/Austrian team sitting in the middle of the board. My goals, as stated above, are to survive and watch Germany suffer. I offer you my help in attacking Germany. If you accept my proposal of alliance, I will be indebted to you throughout the rest of the game and will remember that I owe you. Of course, if you reject this rather impassioned plea, I won't have much hope and will be quickly dispatched. On that issue, I ask: which country would you prefer to work with, the treacherous German or a trustworthy Englander who will put your interests first? Of course, if you moved to take Norway last turn, my diplomats are continuing their splendid record of being a season behind. But I hope that I have finally gotten back up to speed, and I hope that our countries can work together. Here is my Spring 03 plan to defeat the German navy, assuming that I got into Helgoland Bight last turn, that you didn't attack Norway, and that Germany builds a fleet this winter in Kiel. If you could order F Swe-Den, you'll cut support of Skag from Den. Meanwhile, F Hel will S Rus F Swe-Den. My fleets in Norway and Nth Sea will team up to disband the Skag fleet. Then in the fall, I'll support you into Denmark again (if it didn't work the first time) or support you in place to help you hang on to it. I WILL LEAVE SWEDEN ALONE. REPEAT. I WILL LEAVE SWEDEN ALONE. It would not make sense for me, at your mercy, to turn around and take a single supply center from you. My goal is to see the demise of the Germans. If I remain a 4 supply center country for the rest of the game, fine. Just as long as I get to watch and participate in the fall of this Kaiser. This is why I will leave Sweden alone. Sweden has nothing to do with the fall of Germany. Disbanding F Skag and supporting you into Denmark while you move some armies west = German pain and suffering = English pleasure. Please comment on these suggestions. I apologize for any anti-Russian comments and moves of the past. I now see who my real enemy is, and I hope you will help me in dealing with him. However, if my faltering start has caused you to join forces with the Germans, I understand and accept that. It will be a short outing for the seafaring nation this time around. A-R: I probably could have (and should have) left you alone. But, I had already committed myself and I couldn't very well turn around and attack the Germans or the Italians. I also couldn't allow myself to fall behind in builds especially considering that I am Austria. A-F: Hmmmmm! A-G: How are things going? I consider you very important (as I hope you consider me) to defense. Let me know if you are in trouble and if there is anything that I can do to help keep you there. Remember, you, me and the Italians are the most vulnerable three countries in the game and we can do a lot to make ourselves stronger and more defensible by helping each other out. A-A: I must be crazy talking to myself!!! I -> A ------ Since I didn't see anything about a possible plan this turn I figured I would risk an all purpose support break on Constantinople. Please don't reward me by building a fleet or moving into Venice. Assuming you took Bulgaria in the Spring03 how about I will support whatever unit is there into Constantinople. If you would be kind enough to leave Greece open then I would be able to occupy it in Fall03 and produce another unit to help cleanup Turkey, before the Russian's get to much. If you manage to capture Con with my support don't want to let me have Greece then I will be wanting your support into Smyrna in Fall03. I -> no one in particular ------------------------- pphhhlllppppttt! I -> G ------ Feel free to support me into mar anytime. I am taking a guess that you might be in Burgundy... only for defensive reasons of course. And the fact that it is there and your Ruhr unit doesn't have much else to do. I -> himself ------------ Next time I play gunboat I am gonna pick a nice simple funk everyone else country like Germany. Turkey --> Aust-Hun: Having to choose between the rock and the hard place, I choose the rock (i.e., you). Pardon me, I guess I was boulder than I meant to be in the Balkans. As a peace offering, I cede you Bulgaria (before it's reduced to Pebbles). Turkey --> Russia: Your backstabbing has incurred the attention of the meager Turkish forces. Turkey --> Germany, England: I will try to annoy the Russian. I hope you two can exploit my nuisance factor. France -> Italy This is a really stupid war. I can't get in; you can't get out. And we each have four units staring at each other. Want to call it off? England and Germany are at war. Austria is looking east. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for anyone to help either of us. Do you really think England or France wants Italians in Iberia? Do think Austria gets a warm cozy feeling thinking about splitting Italy with France? Why don't we do something else? I would agree to stay out of the Mediterranean with my fleet (soon, fleets) if we could both agree to stay out of the Piedmont/Lyon/Western_Med/ North_Africa strip. What do you say? Or shall we just sit here until we're sitting ducks for some larger neighbor? France -> England I understand you're in the Channel through no act of your own, so that's OK. It does make me nervous, though, and I'll be keeping a close eye on that fleet. If things slow down between you and Germany, I'll definitely be asking for it to leave. Now what? I have basically all my units tied up vs. Italy. I'd like him to go for my peace offer, but have no idea whether he will or not. I have to prepare for the worst and hold the Pillars of Herculeas against whatever he decides to throw my way. It does kind of seem like the three way alliance is on hold for now. A shame -- with things around the Black Sea and Ukraine getting interesting, I think we could have done (can still do?) some good things. France -> Germany Thanks for not messing me up in Burgundy. I think we both have more important things to do than bloody up the Rhine. Sure a fleet to help against England would be nice, but I'm not sure I can spare one. Italy may be persistant. Fighting against England and with Central Europe abandoned by everyone, what would you think about sending one of your spare armies around the Alps to help me out? From your last press, I assume it'll be in Munich by now, so it could easily do some good. Of course, I still hope that Italy we take me up on my offer to leave me alone and have some fun in the Balkans or Turkey, making this all moot. France -> Austria Looks like you're on your way to becoming one of the top powers in Europe. The French government requests an exchange of ambassadors and the opening of embassies in Paris and Vienna. Congratulations on the empire! France -> Turkey Doesn't look fun. But, then, I've been there, so I know it's not. France -> Russia If there was diplomacy in this game, I'd guess this is one of those turns where it could run for hours. Pseudo-hostile borders with everyone except Italy and I, and we're in our own silly war. Looks complicated. G->F: Okay, so he didn't move to the EC in Spring, but he did in Summer. More importantly, I didn't attack. My buildup was necessay to insure control of Belgium; sorry to take it without consulting you, but hey, that's gunboat. My A Ruhr-Mun allows me to build in Kiel. I would like to demiliterize the whole border; if you didn't take Bur I will move east from Ruhr immediately. G->A: Nothing new here; I'd like to continue the pact. G->I: Same as AH. G->E: No real news here. I haven't shut the embassy yet, though. G->R: I went for plan (b); I hope I got it but probably didn't. Sorry. It seem that in almost any senario in which you got Norway he got St. Pete. This seemed bad. The best possible situations for us were (1) I get North Sea, and (2) one big bounce. In Spring: If you made it, I'll support you to hold; if you didn't I'll support another attack from St.Pete unless a) you are unwilling to attack, or b) something changes radically. If you has any suggestions I will follow them, if appropriate, before mine. England - Yes, I'd say your moves are very anti-Russian. If you withdraw your fleets and armies, I'll withdraw mine. Germany - thanks for the support. If England continues to harass me, I'll definitely help you out. Austria - sorry for the misunderstanding...as I said before, the old Czar is dead. Total changeover eh? Tell me which way you'd like to take Bulgaria. _________________________________________________________________________ Retreats are due ASAP.
