Re: Legends- Crown of Avalon From: karenc@amadeus.WR.TEK.COM (Karen Cate) Date: Mon, 27 Aug 1990 23:08:33 +0000 As "the other side of th moon" I feel I must again give the Dark-side to Legends and Midnight games... I also began playing Crown of Avalon in Game#1. However I found that the gamemasters were not prepared to run the game when it was offered. I got several replies to my inquiries, most were at least answered... My problems... Phone calls.. were answered by an Andrew person I believe. Incompetent is the nicest thing I can say. Answers were vague, incorrect and his promises were never kept. Letters.. Lynn Landes answered all of these most thoughtfully. She had a very businesslike matter, but was not cold or uncaring. However I feel she had no 'power' to correct problems. Lastly, I complained that I felt it was unfair for players to pay for Playtesting of an unprepared game system. The battle program was not running, They managed to process 4 turns in 6 and 1/2 months, all had MAJOR problems.. including rule inconsistencies, impossible disappearing enemies so that battles could not occur and promises that all would be corrected soon... I quit after what I believe was ample patience and Lynn Landes did refund my entire financial investment, They are fair I believe, they just made a bad decision from pressure by customers to open Legends before it was ready. I still feel that the Game Master ( Jim Landes ) shows favoritism to his "special" project players, a friend of mine is one such player, and while I ran into brick walls and lack of responsiveness, he had his postion altered and reformed, turns reprocessed and help in the creation of a sea-faring alternative position... Anyway, My final word is... The Legends system has GREAT possibilities. But be prepared for disapointments and a need for a LOT of patience. I will never be persuaded that favoritism will ever be weeded out of the game, but the game world is large and the problems of these "fortunate" players taking advantage of you personally is small, very small. I will try again next year, as a promise to that friend of mine. I expect a good game by then. But I will never be comfortable with midnight games as a company again.
