HAREMNIEUWS (van onze correspondente op Kreta:) Na al die spannende verhalen die de afgelopen tijd in de wereldpers de ronde hebben gedaan over Sultan's Rob haremlady uit Kreta, heeft onze redactie gemeend haar redacteur "Mens en Gevoelens" uit te moeten zenden naar dit paradijselijke eiland om nu eens de waarheid omtrent een en ander te achterhalen. Aangekomen in Athene, alwaar zij het ouderlijk huis een week lang ob- serveerde, bleek dat de betrokken lady toch nog op Kreta bivakkeerde. In Heraklion, om precies te zijn, alwaar zij zich bekwaamt in de Mathe- matische Wetenschappen. Vanuit Piraeus werd de nachtboot naar Heraklion genomen, alwaar onze redacteur intrek nam in Hotel Helena, niet ver van de haven. Bij de eerste rondgang in het stadje, waar veel studentvolk verzameld was op een plein in de binnenstad, kon onze redacteur niks verdachts gewaar worden. Het werd pas spannend toen hij zich de tweede dag overgaf aan een kroegentocht en nogal lang bleef hangen in "Take Five", een van de weinige kroegen die de moeite van het verpozen waard blijken te zijn. Zo rond een uurtje of twee werd de zaak in beslag genomen door leden van de lijfwacht van de Turkische Sultan. Alle aanwezigen werden verzocht het pand te verlaten. Onze redacteur kon zich met hulp van een serveerster verbergen achter de tapkast. Om 2.27 uur precies kwam een lichtelijk aangeschoten Sultan binnengewaggeld, daarbij ondersteund door een slechts 1.65 m klein personage van het vrouwelijke geslacht. In haar mooie bruine lokken hingen lange vieze slierten speeksel en bier. Waarschijnlijk had de Sultan niet alles binnen kunnen houden dat hij de uurtjes ervoor allemaal genuttigd had. Vanwege de inspanningen die zijn gezelschapsdame zich had moeten getroosten (de ondersteunende werk- zaamheden) was haar brilletje beslagen en was er een blosje op haar wangetjes gekomen. "Is dit nu de Griekse schone waarover ons bericht werd?", vroeg onze redacteur zich vertwijfeld af. De enige manier om dit te testen die bij haar opkwam op dat moment, was... een cassette van haar lievelings- muziek in de stereo te pleuren en te kijken hoe ze hier op zou reageren. Een cassette van de Clash was snel gevonden. Hij koos nummer 2 van kant B van "London Calling". Geen resultaat. Misschien was dit niet zo ge- schikt. Welnu, hij draaide de tape door. Wellicht het volgende nummer. En ja hoor, er kwam een blik van herkenning in haar ogen. Toen de eerste tonen van "Guns of Brixton" door het etablissement schalden, kwam ze in bewegen en probeerde Sultan Rob tot enkele danspasjes te verleiden. Sultan Rob kwam niet verder dan wat monotoon heen-en-weer schuiven. Eerst het linkerbeen, dan het rechter, en vervolgens weer het linker. Hij had er zichtbaar moeite mee en tuimelde dan ook na enkele seconden onder het slaken van enkele gore Turkse verwensingen onderuit. Met zijn hoofd kwam hij op de bar terecht, terwijl hij met zijn armen een aantal glazen van de tapkast veegde. Op dit moment kwam de commandant van de lijfwacht naar voren en maakte met een resoluut gebaar kenbaar dat het nu welletjes was. Sultan Rob werd in een draagstoel gepropt en het etablissement uitgedragen. Daarbij week zijn Griekse haremdame niet van zijn zijde. Rust keerde terug in de zaak. Enkele gasten die voorheen verjaagd waren, drentelden weer binnen. Uw redacteur stak haar hoofd boven de tapkast uit, veegde enkele gassplinters uit heur haar en schudde meewarrig het hoofd. The Russian forces were on a full scale retreat when it was discovered that supply captian had forgotten the Toilet paper, at last report he was busy being court Marshalled. Berlin: Kaiser Konstantijn denied rumours that he had contracted syphillus while frolicking about, without any protective equipment, in the bathhouses of newly conquered Paris. Either one is torture enough, but to be forced to sit in a comfy chair on top of soft cushions is an act of inhuman indecency. Finally, the Queen herself was abducted. The six men forced her into her most comfortable carriage, and drove off into the countryside. Where the Queen is headed for, no one knows.
