Game Openings: PBeM From: ddestger@nmsu.edu (Dav deStGermain) Date: Fri, 26 Oct 1990 17:31:39 +0000 I am planning on running a large Strategic Simulation of a Galaxy in the tradition of the Battle Tech game. I need approximately 15-20 players who will be divided into 4 (or more) houses. Each house will control aproximately 1/5th of the known galaxy including all (most) of the natural resources found in its space. The rest of the galaxy will be comprised of disputed systems, independant systems, and mercenary systems. The game, at this point will not consist of any tactical level fights (unless some one really wants to run these things and then let me know what the results are). I will keep tract of all players forces and communicate the result of their actions to them and to whoever they affect. The form orders will take will be weekly or bi-weekly written summaries of how they wish to utilize there forces. Before the simulation commences, a complete list of each houses resources will be given to the respective houses. A galactic map will also be distributed giving the location of where the resources are located. Each house will have some idea about its neighbors resources but will not have exact knowledge (unless of course they can find someone who is willing (for a price) to let them know. Each house will be controlled by approximately 4 players. One player will be given be made king (or duke or what ever the group decides will be his title). The houses will be divided up into 3 or 4 regions which will be controlled by one player. Together these players will be the ruling council of the house, with the king having the final say on policy and financial decisions (though there have always been lords who do not wish to do exactly what their king wants). Several of the people playing will, instead of belonging to a single house, be in charge of mercenary units which will be free to choose to fight for any house that they wish (and that can pay them enough.) Each player will be rated upon how well he does in his position. In addition to scoring points for what a player does, players can score points for describing what they have accomplished. More points will be given for notices that are sent to everyone in the game, while some points will given to notices that are only sent to several of the players. (eg.: If a lord doesn't want the entire galaxy to know that he has single handedly taken over 5 of another houses planets, he may write a notice which will only be distributed to the players in his house. These points in affect are notoriety points and are given for the amount of fame (infamy) a player generates for him or herself.) Scores will be reported to all players and will be kept by me. Bonus points will be awarded for special acts, including winning battles with superior strategy, advancing in position, and anything else that is of noteworthy importance. I will send a copy of how resources are generated and used to the players once I have established who is playing. Anyone interested in getting in on this simulation, please let me know.
