Chad =========================================================================== Blitzkrieg -- Winter 1917 =========================================================================== In the Soviet Union, the press is controlled by the official news agency, Tass, which is always giving out highly amusing versions of world events: MOSCOW - Tass, the official Soviet news agency, announced today that Soviet troops have entered Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Iran, Albania, Mongolia, Egypt, Norway, and Saskatchewan at the request of "liberation movements fighting the Western capitalist colonialist Zionist hegemony of running-dog plague-carrying widow-stabbing baby-eating lackeys of United States imperial- ism." Tass said the Soviet forces will ride around in nuclear-powered tanks until the various contries are safe from the threat of further oppression. Over here, things are more complicated. Our government lies a lot, too, but it can't force the newspapers to print the lies accurately. From time to time the reporters try to get at the truth, and once in a great while they succeed. So you can be FAIRLY sure you're reading lies, but, unlike the Russians, you can never really COUNT on it. The only reliable parts of American newspapers are horoscopes, weather forecasts, and economic outlooks, which are all consistently false. -- Dave Barry, "Perking Up the News" *************** England: Build F EDI, A LON Germany: Disband A MUN Russia: Build A SEV *************** Supply Centers: Total/(Units Owned)/Status Austria: BUD, VIE, TRI, GRE, SER, BUL, CON, 13 (13) VEN, RUM, ANK, NAP, ROM, WAR England: LON, LVP, EDI, NWY, STP, DEN, BRE, 16 (16) POR, SPA, PAR, TUN, MAR, BEL, SWE KIE, HOL France: 0 (0) Germany: MUN 1 (1) Italy: 0 (0) Russia: SEV, SMY, MOS, BER 4 (3) + Turkey: 0 (0) *************** Unit Positions -- Winter 1917: Austria: F ION, F AEG, A SIL, A GAL, A TRI, A VEN, A WAR, A VIE, A TYR, F NAP, A BOH, F ROM, F ADR England: A STP, A BUR, F KIE, F TUN, F GOL, F PIE, F TYS, F WME, F BAL, F NAF, F BAR, A HOL, A BEL, F PRU, F EDI, A LON Germany: A RUH Russia: A MOS, A BER, A SEV *************** GM Notes: I will set the next deadline to be Monday, Oct. 22. Note: The Mahler Index (read #'s as percentages) is an index which gives a rough estimate of the percentage of the game completed. It is figured according to the formula given below, and it is supposedly a good figure which shows how "advanced" the game is toward a single-player victory (since it doesn't take alliances into account). Variance = Sum of SC's held squared - (Total SC's held squared / 7) Std.Dev. = Square root (Variance / 7) Mahler Index = (Std.Dev. - 0.35) / 0.06 Status: Current turn is Spring 1918 with turns due Mon, Oct. 22, at noon. =========================================================================== KINGS GAMBIT -- Autumn 1901 =========================================================================== Retreats: ========= Austrian Army Rumania retreats to Serbia Positions: (I use caps for sea provinces) ========== Austria: A Ser Boh F Tri England: A Yor F NTS Nor France: A Pic Spa F Por Germany: A Hol Ruh F Den Italy: A Gre Ven F ION Russia: A Ukr Gal F GOB Rum Turkey: A Sev Bul F BLA Supply centers: (New in caps, lost in parens) =============== Austria: Bud Tri Vie SER England: Edi Lon Lvp NOR France: Bre Mar Par POR SPA Germany: Ber Kie Mun DEN HOL Italy: Nap Rom Ven GRE Russia: Mos (Sev) StP War RUM Turkey: Ank Con Smy BUL SEV Builds: ======= Austria: 3 units, 4 supply centers, builds 1 England: 3 units, 4 supply centers, builds 1 France: 3 units, 5 supply centers, builds 2 Germany: 3 units, 5 supply centers, builds 2 Italy: 3 units, 4 supply centers, builds 1 Russia: 4 units, 4 supply centers, builds 0 Turkey: 3 units, 5 supply centers, builds 2 Miscellaneous ============= I have been asked whether I allow voluntary disbands. No, a unit can only disband if it is forced to retreat. I think this is the standard rule, and 'voluntary disbands' is a variant.
