This is due to the German swine who have treacherously broken every single deal in order to further their own ends. Watch out people, this guy will try to sucker all of you. Oslo: Crowds lined the docks as the English re-located their capital in Oslo. "Great", said one passerby, "now the Germans will attack us". The English were greeted with shouts of "GO HOME BRIT! LONG LIVE THE POPE!" The Vatican Enquirer. (Now Sarah, click your heeels three times and say "There's no place like Rome.") FOURTH FLEET RETREATS FROM TURKISH GARBAGE BARGE (Aegean Sea) The Italian Fourth Fleet, commanded by Admiral Louigi Lasagne, was forced to retreat from its post today when the Turkish "Abdul Abomitable", a garbage barge out of Constantinople charged the fleet. The Admiral was quoted as saying "Boy, was that a stinker!" The fleet is reportedly heading for Athens. BRUCCI SPRINGSTEEN MAKES FIRST TOUR DATE (Athens) Brucci Springsteen and the East Fleet Shuffle will be making its first stop on its "Save the World From Itself" tour today at the lovely port-side town of Athens today. However there has been an outcry from the conservative Moslem public to ban the act. There has been reports of random violence around the city as the Moslems and the Orthodox citizens fight over the presence of the singing Archbishop. The Pope is rumored to be sending some military help to calm the masses. MISSIONARIES HEAD FOR FRANCE (Gascony) The Missionary Corps of the Holy Vatican Army has been ordered into Gascony to assist in the conversion of the newly-made German citizens in France. Future plans for the missionaries include travelling to Berlin to convert the Kaiser himself. AND NOW, A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR: Italy -> Turkey: Ok, I'm getting out of the Aegean, just like I said I would. Italy -> Germany: Don't worry, help is on the way... Date: Mon, 22 Oct 90 13:17:18 -0400 (BRUSILOV OFFENSIVE: The name may stink, but it's better than "Get Some".) (Fall '02 press. #68) GM is the ever-kind and sweet Frank Di Vincenzo. (fnd@beach.cis.ufl.edu) Prime Minister Steve Ozdemir took power today in London. Under emergency powers granted to him by the Parliment, he declared England under martial law due to the Queen's disappearance. Mr. Ozdemir, also known as Spokesman for the Queen, exercised his new emergency powers by dissolving the Parliment! He was heard saying, "Without our Queen to provide England with direction, Parliment would have futzed around while the French threat became unmanagable. Oh yeah, God save the Queen!" During a speech at the House of Commons, he mentioned that the members "all better start looking for new jobs, cause next week the House of Commons was going!" Afterwards Mr. Ozdemir mentioned that the building was going to be torn down and a new mall was being built. Reports from the fourth batallion have been leaked to the press. English forces have been sent on a mission to search for the Queen, and have been quite successful! General McNoulen has been scouring the northern countries along the way to Moscow. It has been rumored that he is in sight of Moscow, but says, "Can't be sure if she's there or not?? There's this HUGE behind with something shoved up it in the binoculars, but I can't tell if that's the Queen or the Czar's wife." General Anderson, commander of the southern forces, reported landing on French soil, but not finding any signs of the Queen. He was quoted as saying, "Oh well, not to Spain. Maybe they'll have some tea there??" Italy to Austria: I certainly mean you no harm. I have tried to send messages to you, but I have not received any replies. I hope we can, at least, leave each other alone. THE NATURAL INQUISITOR QUEEN VICTORIA FOUND DEAD OF HEART ATTACK AFTER NIGHT OF WILD SEX, BOOZE AND DRUGS! The former Queen of England, Victoria, was found dead this morning, after a wild night of sex, booze and drugs. She was kidnapped, right out of her own castle last spring, and conveyed onto the continent, where she apparently lived the last few months of her life as a sex slave to an unknown lover. She lived in a posh castle in Alsace-Lorraine. Her room was decorated with all kinds of erotic art. There were a number of bottles of champagne, brandy, and wine, as well as ashes from the numerous opium pipes. As one observer said, "I thought she was such an uptight Queen. Well I guess you know what happens when you deny your natural urges for so long!" There seems to be some dispute as to the new leader of England. Her son, Edward, appears to be the next in-line, however, local officials have found a piece of paper which appears to be Vicky's (as her servants called her) last Will and Testament. There are rumours that she has named her lover as her sole heir, and her other children to be illegitimate. But of course, this reporter knows that cannot be true. English officials have been scurrying about trying to find Vicky's lover. So far he has not turned up. The London Times: Steve Oz, spokesman for the Queen, denied all rumours that Queen Victoria had been found dead as a result of too much loving. "Preposterous!", he said, "No one ever died from *too* much loving. Besides, she turned down all of my overtures..." Tokyo: KIDNAP ATTEMPT FAILS!! Shortly after the announced death of Queen Victoria of England, an attempt was made to kidnap Edward, the heir apparent of England. Eight swarthy men, wearing towels on their heads, swarmed Buckingham palace. They attempted to use the dreaded "water balloons" but the soldiers guarding the palace were ready. It was a Saturday night, the soldiers were ready to take their once a week bath anyways, so they marched out with no clothes on to stop the marauding hordes. London officials do not believe that it was a copycat crime to the abduction of Victoria. The men have been held for questioning, but all that they repeat is "Long Live Constanti Et. Salami" Berlin: Kaiser Konstantijn returned from his vacation in France. He was seen very little over the summer. Rumours abound of a lover hidden somewhere in France. These rumours are refuted by local hookers though, as Konstantijn has once again been prowling the streets. He had not been seen on the streets since Spring of this year. Constantinople: Sultan Anand Sinha, Bringer of the One True Faith to the World, and Former Dog Trainer of The Sultan's Kennels, was saddened by news of Queen Victoria's death. "I warned his she wasn't a _strong_ woman". Sofia: Sultan Anand Sinha, visited the Turkish 1st army stationed here. To the jeers and cheers of the crowded masses he exclaimed "This? This is what you guys left Greece for? All those horny Greek women? And you came to Bulgaria? Hmm... I think I have a gift for someone..." Rome: The New Italian Government has expressed little desire in negotiating with the "weak and decrepit Russians". "What can they offer us? A palace in Switzerland? No thanks! We like Monte Carlo" Vienna: Kaiser Kenneth was shocked and dismayed when he learned of Queen Victoria's death. "I heard she was a fragile woman". When his aid mentioned her health he said, "Fragile? I meant frigid". Berlin: Kaiser Konstantijn accepted another package from the ACME rubber company of New Jersey. The Kaiser's noted insatiable appetite for sex in any form or manner has begun certain rumours about the Kaiser, the Royal Kennel and the Sultan of Turkey, who used to be a Dog Trainer. More to follow.... To Budapest the Tsar his army did send, For the Austrian will he did wish to bend, Meanwhile the Turk said he was a friend, All could see it was just for pretend, Yet he stabbed the Tsar in the end, So now the Tsar has relations to mend, But it is too late for him to defend, His capital is gone and while he should tend, How quickly his nation will die on him depend. The Vatican Herald for Fall '02. (Redundancy is Bliss.) SULTAN'S DAUGHTER FOUND IN VATICAN CITY WITH POPE! (Vatican City) Sultan Anand Sinha's daughter, Sarah, was found in the chambers of Pope Pestilence III last evening. The Pope claims that he was reading Bible stories to young Sarah. However there has been no explanation for the Sultan's three year old daughter wearing a lacy teddy and French Perfume. God was, as usual, unavailable for comment. THE RESULTS FOR FALL ARE IN. THE CONTEST CONTINUES. It appears that MASTERS OF DECEIT is ready to go, this is your gm speaking. Some business: 1) I gather the variant to be played is still up in the air. Let me strongly recommend regular, for the simple reason that I am a rookie gm. I've played and helped run enough regular games to feel comfortable running that, but another variant might strain my brain unduly (i.e., there would probably be an increased risk of gm screwups, and I'm sure that would be a drag for you). In fact, I've never even PLAYED any variants but regular and blind. So, unless I hear a majority for another variant (which doesn't seem to be the case, stop me if I'm wrong), I'll assume this is a regular game. Any four votes, of course, can change that if they're sent in pronto. 2) I have country preferences from Joris and Jamie, and confirmed email connections to them plus to Constantin and Anand. Everybody but Joris and Jamie should send me country preferences ASAP. 3) I am thinking in terms of a weekly deadline. I would try to shorten it to 3 or 4 days for winter and summer orders (builds/retreats/disbands/press). I would prefer to get press only for the summer and winter, if that's okay with everyone. Of course, once a game starts, deadlines tend to start floating, but that's what I'd shoot for. 4) Assuming this is regular (or blind), I would leave the press policy up to a majority vote. The options would be: ANYTHING GOES (black press allowed, anyone can post any press claiming to be anyone else). WHITE AND GRAY PRESS ONLY (This means any press item claiming to speak for a national leader - Emperor, Czar, whatever - must actually come from that leader. Anyone can post press claiming to be someone else, but it cannot invoke the name of the national leader: it would quote "high-ranking sources in Moscow" instead of saying "the Czar revealed today...." Of course, the Russian player could himself post press quoting only the "high-ranking sources.") WHITE PRESS ONLY (No one can post press items purporting to come from any nation but his own). 5) Once country preferences are in, I'll make assignments and set a winter '00 deadline. REMEMBER I'M ASSUMING "REGULAR" UNLESS A MAJORITY WANTS SOMETHING ELSE so get those votes in!!!! Paul -- "Never look back; something might be gaining on you." Satchel Paige Paul R. I now (Wed eve) have country preferences from everyone but Constantin and John. I have not heard from John at all. The only people to vote so far have indicated a preference for Black (or, as I put it, "anything goes") press. As for the variant, there seem to be at least two people in favor of blind, and at least two in favor of regular, with one abstention who if pressed says he would prefer regular. As I said, I will treat regular as the default unless there is a majority for something else. Winter '00, by the way, would be just for press - we could skip it if people want to. Also - I have had intermittent email link problems with a machine known as nucsrl (you'll see in the path of this mail, at least most of you will, it's a key link from Chicago to a lot of places). The people running nucsrl (at Northwestern U.) do not seem to have their s**t together, and periodically my mail gets held up there. HOWEVER based on my previous missive to you all, the mail apparently doesn't get cancelled or bounced, just delayed: first I got a series of uucp warnings, then I got mail from a couple of you which indicated that the message did get through. SO, please reply to this message as a test. We'll call this TEST MESSAGE #1, okay? (so I can distinguish which message you're replying to). Please reply even if you already responded to the last one, thanks. Also, if anyone has contact with John O'Regan, please tell him I have received nothing from him. -- "Never look back; something might be gaining on you." Satchel Paige Paul R.
