The giant crunch finally took place! Note that the units in Berlin and Holland were destroyed, but German A Kie was allowed to retreat to Ruhr because the displacing attack for that unit didn't come from Ruhr. Russian A Pie is also destroyed for lack of retreat. German A Mun is preserved because of English support from A Bur. Note that despite Russia's recent successes and losses on the front, he only has one open center in which to build. Also, Germany has another disband coming in the Winter. The deadline for Winter 1917 is Monday the 15th. I will send out reminders to those of you who haven't submitted moves by then at that time. ============================================================================= Passchendaele -- Spring 1905 Russian capital falls to Austrian marauders! I'd appreciate some comment as to it's intentions. By the way, congratulations on getting Portugal. It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here. Let me know if I can do anything to help. A-G: Looks likes you can take Sweden now if you want. I suspect the English will probably take Norway back and I intend to take St. Pete and perhaps Sevastopol this year. This would leave the Russians pretty much out in the cold. It would then be up to the Turks to take Ankara before anyone else does. :-) A-T: Sorry about the move to Con but I just had to do something with my fleet. Besides, if the Italians decide to move to the Aegean, I wouldn't want you slide right in there with a 2-1 with support from Constantinople. A-R: The Austrian President is not without heart! He offers the Russian Czar a wonderful palace in which to live located in little Russia in the heart of Budapest. Please accept this most generous offer and be my guest for the rest of your life. I promise to treat your people well. A-F: That was a slick set of moves that you and Italians pulled off last year! Unfortunately for you, it appears that you came out on the short end of the stick. Why don't you just give up? You are very vulnerable to both the Germans and the English (not to say that they are going to attack you, but it does look pretty tempting up there!) A-E: You should have taken some of Russia while you could. Now it looks like all you're going to get is Norway and I doubt that you can hold on to it for very long. A-A: God! You're a cocky SOB this year! :-) <-At least I haven't started answering back yet! England -> Germany: I accept your peace offering. I've been studying what has been going on in the rest of the world, and it doesn't look good. Russia has been split and will probably fold its tents soon. Turkey is in bad shape after what Russia did to him. Austria is getting way too big and running out of enemies. I think this spells bad news for you since you are the next likely target for Austria's armies. And Italy is starting to hate you since you never helped him with France. Anyway, I want to make peace. I won't consider myself a puppet since you would probably want to put a puppeteer's string around my testicles. This turn, I defended the North Sea again. Bad habits are hard to break. If you attacked me again, I guess I'll just have to keep defending myself. However, I think you are realizing that we have both been wasting a LOT of time. Wish you would have listened to my three way alliance offer a long time ago... So, I suspect that you went after Sweden this turn. If you did, I would appreciate it if you would support ENG F Nwg-Nry next turn. My other two units will continue to defend the North Sea. If, however, you still have three fleets bordering the North Sea, I'm just going to sit there and defend it. I think you are wasting time by building a fourth fleet just to get me. Let's be friends. I have no hard feelings toward you. I promise not to attack you, and I'll help you in Scandinavia. I'm signing my death warrant, since Russia will probably offer to help you attack me after all this press. It's your decision. I've wanted to work with you and France all along, but the only sticking point has been between you and me. Let's remove that obstacle and deal with Austria and Italy. The three of us are going to be hard pressed to stop them, especially Austria. England -> Russia: Please don't throw in the towel and let Austria walk all over you. My press above suggests that I might attack Nry next turn. I would prefer to keep our relations on a positive note. Germany forced me to consider his peace offering. Time will tell if it was a nice trick to finally get you to help him against me. Sure wish you'd help me in Skag and Den. Oh well. Please don't get bent out of shape by my press above if I goofed and took his offer a little too seriously. I'm still hanging on by a thread. England -> France: Hi. Looks like the three way alliance might happen a few years late anyway. Good show down there against Italy. Please help me diplomatically to encourage Germany to leave me alone. This three way alliance is a must in order to stop the Austrian growth. My role will be minor: to help you two where I can and of course, to not cause any trouble. England -> Austria: What do you plan to do after Russia and Turkey fall? Italy, Germany... who's next on the chopping block? England -> Italy: Watch your back buddy. I don't understand why you are getting so irritated at Germany. Guess the A/G/I alliance wasn't as solid as I thought. You may need to team up with Germany against Austria pretty soon, so I'd be nice to the Kaiser if I were you. France is sure to hate you the rest of the game, so if Austria turns on you, you are dead meat. England -> All: All I want is peace in our time... France->England: Can I take Belgium?!? You were kidding, right? My empire is in worse shape even than yours. Things will be better if I can outguess the Italians and retake Portugal this year, but other- wise it's grim. I can sympathize with your plight, but we have to be realistic here. France->Italy: Well, now I know it's possible to make such intricate maneuvers that I trip myself up. Hopefully I will recover, and we'll be back to the same old stalemate that we were before, though it's pretty sad that that's the best outcome that seems likely. But as Austria says, if you stop attacking me, the whole world will crumble. Or maybe just Austria's view from the top of the whole world. (And by the way, you've got some pretty good moves yourself. Too bad we can't find some way to be on the same side of this little war. And congratulations on forcing me to scuttle my Tyrrhenian fleet :-< .) France->Germany: Yup, I managed to outmaneuver myself on that last turn. I got my fleet into the Med, only to have to disband it to hold the line. When I retake Portugal (as I write this, the odds are still good), I'll adopt a "just hold the line in the south" strategy until I'm better situated to attempt expansion. On the bright side, if I do get Portugal (either I have it now, or I have a chance at it again in fall), I'll have to build my new fleet in Brest, which may open up some possibilities. I hope you didn't decide I was hopeless and start to attack me (though I know it's probably a temptation every turn). If for some unknown reason you're in Burgundy, please either support me in Marseilles, or support my retaking it from Gascony (since you will have poofed my army). France->Austria: Well, as I figure it, if you attacked Italy, and it looks pretty tempting with Greece and Venice just sitting there, I'd be lucky to get one supply center of the spoils; you'd get four or five, and still have the expansion possibilities in the east. It's not like many of Italy's units are in any position to defend against an attack from you. Want some easy supply centers? Germany -> Russia: Yes, I realize that I am attacking eariler then I stated in my ultimatum, but you were unable to support me this turn and there seems to be no point in waiting. I further realize that I am not giving you a chance to reply in the press, but given that I have heard _nothing_ from you in the previous three turns I can't imagine anything you say would be very constructive. I would apoligize for this attack if I had any comprehension of the reasons for your actions or your silence; given those things, I feel it is understandable. Germany -> England: Boy, this is the first time in longer than I can remember that I haven't attacked you. Knowing my luck, you probably didn't support the North Sea. Does this mean a Brave New Era of Peaceful Anglo- Prussian Relations? Maybe. Probably not. We'll see. Germany -> France: Another few turn of anti-German propaganda in the Italian press and I'm going to have to support you. Germany -> Italy: Another few turn of anti-German propaganda in the Italian press and I'm going to have to support France. You said I'm going to have to attack someone else. Maybe you were right. Hopefully you had a chance to calm down during this long hiatus. Germany -> Austria: Another few turn of anti-German propaganda in the Italian press and I'm going to have to attack Italy. Don't take it personally if I do. I have _no_ plans to send "German armies crashing into your northern border" as Italy put it. I agree to some extent with what Italy says that our three way-alliance is merely a non-agression pact; that is how it began (at least on my end) and I have never tried to make it into anything more. This was mainly because I put my war with England on a higher priority than helping Italy in a war that I suspect would have overextended me. Now, as he threatens to treat me as if I were French, I sense he is trying to destroy the pact that has helped all three of us greatly. Germany -> Turkey: Welcome back. I was begining to wonder if you were still alive. I haven't written press to you yet, but I thought maybe I ought to send something before you dissappeared. It looks like that may not happen for a bit though. As for your assesment of Russia's motives, I think the later is correct and bear him no ill will (only mildly charitable of me, considering). Turkey --> A-H: Well, I can't think of any way I can help you after you've consumed Russia, but maybe I can convince you that others would make a better meal than I. It seems that Germany wants to ally with England AND France now, Hmmm. If Germany does turn on France that's good for you, otherwise you'll have bigger fish than me to trawl for. Another bad omen for you is that Italy seems to be very slow at defeating France and convincing Germany to attack France. If either Germany or Italy lets you down, then maybe a docile southern ally (me!) with a bunch of fleets in the Med might not be such a bad thing for you. I -> A Oh no AH built a fleet! How traitorous! Just kidding. I know, you know, and the entire world knows you can take Greece at will. I hope you leave it in my possession for at least another year though. Consider it an investment with the pay off being the French not making it into the Med. *secret msg* all other great powers besides AH, do not read this. (StP is normally one of AH's out-of-reach 18th centers...) I -> F I was considering attacking Mar this turn on the off chance the German entry into Bur would cause you to disband instead of retreat... but I regained my senses in time. I know things are gettin pretty boring, but tis a gunboat game and we is stuck. I -> G,E Power vaccuum in Norway! I -> T Gosh. there sure are alot of red guys all over Russia. I think you told Russia all that antagonistic stuff so that he would attack you and hasten his own fall. I -> R I bet that AHian was cold this last winter. GM to all: The last set of moves came in around 3am this morning, so I went ahead and compiled everything a few days ahead of time, to get things going. I will be gone until Sunday evening, so if Turkey and Russia can get those retreats to me before I get back, I can get those sent out Sunday evening after I return. Let's say the Fall 1905 moves are due no later than 11pm EDT Wednesday. Of course, if all the moves are in before that, I can send them out on Tuesday. The Austrian/German/Italian draw proposal was again voted down. However, it's been proposed again...vote on it if you will. An Austria/Italy proposal was made, but since the two together do not control the necessary 18 sectors, this will not be voted on. ============================================================================= Baghdad -- Fall 1901 A Vie - Gal A Ser S F Alb - Gre Austria F Alb - Gre Fleet(NwS) -> Norway Fleet(NoS) convoys Army(Yorkshire) -> Denmark England Army(Yorkshire) -> Denmark France, Fall 1901 A Picardy --> Burgundy(BOUNCE) A Spain Support F Mid-Atlantic --> Portugal France F Mid-Atlantic --> Portugal A Ruhr - Belgium A Munich - Burgandy(BOUNCE) Germany F Holland S A Ruhr - Belgium A Tyr -> Mun(BOUNCE) A Apu -> Tun Italy F Ion (C) A Apu -> Tun F GoB -> Swe A war -> gal Russia F rum (hold) A ukr S F rum (hold) A Bul S AUSTRIA A Ser holds F Con - Aeg Turkey A Smy - Con Press: Paris (Le Monde): ``Projected third quarter earnings in alcohol futures skyrockets. September 12, 1901: Sofia (Reuters) - The Bulgarian government voted unanimously today to merge with the Ottoman Empire. Sources close to the government told us that in exchange for merger, Bulgaria will become a self-governing province inside the Empire. Rumours are brewing that to solidify this decision, Grand Vizier Masri of the Empire married one of the Bulgarian King's daughters. Neither government would comment. October 1, 1901: Constantinople (Reuters) - Sources close to the Sultan confirmed today that as a way of insuring that territorial gains by the Empire will be justified, Grand Vizier Masri will marry either a princess or a daughter of the Prime Minister of any country occupied by the Empire. Our sources indicate that the Grand Vizier is quite happy with this arrangement, but this has yet to be confirmed. T[GLISCHE NACHRICHTEN 14 Augusti 1901 STRIKE STOPS DIPLOMATIC NEGOTIATIONS!
