This is a slug-pace average of about 3.6 weeks per turn. Only two original players remain, namely Michael Hall of Turkey and Bob Givan of England. Ever since 1902, when Danny Loeb took over Austria, there has been a Turkey-Austria alliance in effect. Now Austria is indisputably the strongest land power, while Turkey is inarguably the most powerful power at sea. We currently have 17 units, and by the end of 1907, we will control 18 or more supply centers. Therefore, we ask to put an end to this war. Vote "YES" to a Turkey-Austria draw proposal. In return, you will not have to suffer the agonies of a prolonged endgame and possible elimination of your country. This draw proposal will appear with the retreats, so remember to vote for it when you submit your Fall 1907 orders. -Leaders of Austria and Turkey ***ARTICLE TWO*** 1) Although this game has been a bit boring lately, that is no reason to end it. Merely a reason to make it more interesting. What better reason to attack Turkey, surely that will maintain people's interest in the game. 2) While the game has been slugish in the past, that is mostly the fault of former players and the former GM. Now, they are gone, and recently the game has been moving at the normal pace of one move per week. 3) It is true that Turkey has been fairly honest to me throughout the game. This is my only hesitation in attacking him. I try while playing Diplomacy, to have a legal reason to attack a country. Either because Russia broke the Black-Sea agreement and then didn't make certain disbands. Or because Italy informed Turkey of certain secret information in 1902. Even in those cases, I try to make my reasons clear, and offer peace and every turn. With Italy I had to wait until the change of player, but now for a couple of years with have been working together just fine. Here I have no claim against Turkey. While I would have been sad to see him eliminate Italy, he had never promised that he wouldn't, so this is no excuse. My only point in this paragraph is that this turn has been exceptional and weird play for me. 4) I only have a slight advantage over Germany in number of units, so I can not be said to be indisputably the strongest land power. When I entered the game, I had only 2 supply centers under my control. Nevertheless, such a situation has often turned around, and the country went on to participate in a draw. However, I only once (in the Player's Guide I think) read about such a country who then went on to WIN the game. As long as I can be convinced that I have a chance, I am not going to miss this historic occasion. If as it turns out, my offensive bogs down, or that I beat Turkey and then am confronted with a stalemate line, I will then see if I can get a draw, but for now I think I am going to try to do my best. 5) For the above reasons, I will not be proposing a A-T draw this turn, and if one is proposed then I will vote against it. In deference to Turkey to whom I am extremely apologetic, I will not propose an Austrian victory until he is eliminated or he suggests the idea of his own accord. *********************************************************************** Game: Tokugawa - Fall 1907 To: All From: GM Notes: 1.
