Sorry it took so long to get this message out, but I got a bad player list the fist time it was sent (line noice or somethin). Anyway, hopefully that is cleared up now, and everyone should get this message. If you have already sent your info, I thank you. If not, here is what I need. I need the positions of all of your pieces, including spys, for your nation. I also need the positions of all other player's pieces you know about. I must have some way to verify piece positions, as the former DM didn't leave me that info. If you have trouble getting a message through to me, please send directly to Eric_S_Klien and he'll forward it on to me. A couple of you have sent me only the positions of your pieces. Please send me another message and let me know the positions of the other pieces you know about (and include your positions again too). I am looking at starting the game up again, on a weekly basis, the week after Thanksgiving, so please get those positions to me as soon as possible. David Breeding tnc!m0103 If you have trouble getting mail to me try: uunet!m0103@tnc.uucp --Name = DAVID BREEDING Mailbox # = 103 Winter '02 of the game CULLODEN (MNC number not known) (Gunboat game, GM is rmal@cernvax.cern.ch/Richard Lucock) Date: Tue, 20 NOV 90 08:38:34 GMT >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Culloden Winter 1902 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< +++++++++++++++++++++ ++ Austria-Hungary ++ +++++++++++++++++++++ Build A Vie Build A Tri +++++++++++++ ++ England ++ +++++++++++++ build A Edi +++++++++++++ ++ Germany ++ +++++++++++++ Build Army Munich --------------- Vienna Tribune: --------------- england) The English-French alliance spews forth cynical propaganda at its worst: When Austria occupies a neutral country, it's an "invasion of Russian territory." But poor England was forced to take a Russian home center! And she "may be persuaded to withdraw"! How nice! france) How can you possibly consider Italy's moves "blatantly anti-French"?! Both armies have held in place. One fleet is now in the Eastern Med -- prime French territory, apparently. Looks like you and England are going to have a tough time with Germany; you couldn't stop him from getting a build this year. Picking on Italy and Russia at the same time is just crazy. germany) I think your press was forged by England; it mentions the "French question" but conveniently forgets to mention the British. So I don't need to berate you about your request to Italy to stab me. But just in case, let's go over your list of potential saviors from the Anglo-French juggernaut: Italy has played very conservatively and has shown no interest in helping you. Russia supported an English offensive against you. Turkey tells England and France: "please please please hurry up with Germany." Looks like I'm about it! Of course the Italians and Russians are probably furious with your grabby neighbors, and they'll try to exact revenge by helping you survive. But my army in Bohemia is the only one that can help you in the Spring. It will support Army Munich Hold, which leaves Army Berlin free to support Kiel. But I can't help you out if I see any more threatening messages, so please send out some pro-Austrian press in the Spring. italy) I trust you have enough common sense not to backstab me. My fleet in Greece will support F EME-ION in the Spring; your two fleets and an army in Piedmont will hold off the French. It looks like he's going for broke; he can hurt you badly with his fleets, and you need to hit him with everything you've got. I didn't build a fleet, which should make you happy. russia) Ouch. My sympathies. England knifed you good and deep. Of course you'll want to send forces north to reclaim the Rodina, but please continue to apply pressure to Turkey. It will be much easier for us to deal with England and France after our backs are secure. A plan of attack: F Sev-Bla or Arm. A Bul-Con. Right now we should try to outguess Turkey and sneak into his homeland; later, we can commit more forces to the effort. Please resist the temptation to attack Rumania. I would be forced to terminate our alliance if that happened. Turkey as your enemy is easy to keep bottled in; I would be more difficult to deal with. turkey) Congratulations; looks like you've got a reprieve. England and France may find that keeping you alive isn't worth what it costs them. -------------- La Parisienne: -------------- (Paris, winter 1902) The President was stricken with apoplexy, and the job of altering the format of French press had to be done by his subordinates. The President was overheard to say, "what the hell do the English think they're doing, invading Russia without telling me first? Merde! We are finished!" (Paris, winter 1902) The President and his ministers returned from a lengthy trip to the cities of all major European powers. The following reports were issued by the chief diplomats: Austria -=> My moves from fall should show you that I am not letting English fleets into the Med. Exactly how would you want me to calm the English down? Their aggressive moves against Germany and/or Russia don't offend me at all, in fact they help me considerably. Let me again emphasize to you, as well as to Italy, that I didn't want to have to put fleets in the Med; the Italian spring moves did present a threat, however, so I took action. The fall moves indicate that Italy is not acting aggressively towards me, so I hope we can continue to avoid conflicts in this region. England -=> Any hacking on German fleets will be greatly appreciated. We need to work together to quickly and efficiently complete the conquest of Germany and Scandinavia. I would prefer it if you built fleets in Edinburgh if at all possible. A fleet built elsewhere would force me to occupy the MAO for defensive purposes. Due to the events in the East, I would rather not have to do this, since the fleets may be needed down there... Italy -=> Well, it seems that I may have overreacted in the fall. I still intend to honor our agreement, which has not been violated yet. It looks like you're going to join forces with Austria against Turkey. I cannot condone this move, since I believe that the Austrian growth needs to be checked, and you are the only person in any sort of position to accomplish this. The way I see it, Austria benefits much more fro the destruction of Turkey than you do; he gets 2 centers (Con and Ank), you get 1 (Smy); he is already almost twice as big as you. Do you really want to help him grow to 9 units? If you continue to move against Turkey, I am prepared to take action against you to prevent the total destruction of Turkey. I would rather not do this, since, as I said before, you are in the best position to control the growth Austria. With Russia already weak, and with Germany otherwise occupied, we simply cannot afford to let Austria crush Turkey. He would then be able to sweep through Russia, and would at that point be unstoppable. You are able to prevent this if you act NOW! Russia -=> I'm glad to see you move to Galicia. Of course, Austria now claims he had to keep Rumania for defensive purposes, and that he can easily control Galicia if necessary. It looks like you've realized that he is not your best choice of ally. He is trying to get you worried about the Anglo-French forces sweeping east; your immediate concern should be the Austrian forces sweeping east. The Turks are hardly a "menace" when they have only 3 units to Austria's 7. The true menace in the east seems to be Austria. I wish you and Turkey the best in containing it. Turkey -=> Looks like you've got a nasty fight coming. Hopefully you and Russia can work together to keep Austria under control. If it becomes necessary, I am prepared to take whatever steps I can to prevent your total destruction. Good luck! ------------- Berlin Bugle: ------------- Russia, if it's possible, I will support you into Sweden in the Fall. Italy, I think it should be pretty clear that France is intending to stab you. I say that we cooperate on containing him. My Western front is sufficiently strong to hold him back if not push a little. I'd like to ask that you get into position to help me liberate Burgundy. World, all other press is forged. All of my press is forged. ---------------- Ankara Bulletin: ---------------- Russia: Well, I've moved out of Armenia. Good luck defending yourself. Please don't fall in with Austria's little Thanksgiving offer. If you do, he'll be 'gaurding the backdoor to the Balkans' via Warsaw and Moscow. Italy: France had some good words last posting about the Austrian menace, but his moves look a bit aggressive. Could you pull back your fleet? Carving me up will just take to much time. England: If you turn Russia into Scandinavian mashed potatoes Austria stands to gain everything from Warsaw to Smyrna. Then a few bites from Germany and Italy and the game is over. France: Thanks for suggesting that people let up on the gobbler. Don't think it will help this late in the game. Don't like to see England in Russia and Germany under pressure and Italy being threatened - but hey, maybe this will cause Austria to divert a few troops elsewhere. If you an England stand to gain big shares of Italy and Russia, Austria will have to react. Germany: Congrats on the build, darn it. Remember that a supportive Austria will eventually demand something in return. Do you have plenty of sweet potatoes? Austria: What now? Isn't it a little hard for the leader to call the weakest power on the board a threat and a menace? How will you disguise your greed now? --------------- Geneva Tattler: --------------- Austria-Hungary: Hello. I'm one of your neighbors. Would rather not say who I am right now. You've been begging me to help out Berlin. I thought I'd tell you why I'm not. The German player is too poor to be a useful ally. All he uses press for is to say everyone else's press is forged. How do we know it's him saying that? When someone moves against him, Germany tries to be his ally. When someone offers to help, Germany ignores him. Sorry, but I think I'm better off dealing with England or France. ------------ GM's Corner: ------------ France will be away from 21st to the 25th, so I will put the deadline for spring moves as next monday, 26th. I am planning on taking a couple of weeks off at the beginning of December (reports of war atrocities in Moscow require my presence there; hopefully I'll get a look in on Leningrad (...ooops, I mean St Petersburg) at the same time. So that will be a two week delay in the game. Presumably people will also be taking breaks over the xmas period. If you know the dates that you will be unavailable, please let me know. England, you seem to be consistently tardy - would you mind getting things in more quickly? Or is there a problem with mail at your end? Needless to say, the Spring '03 deadline is delayed until Winter gets out at least. As this weekend is Thanksgiving in the US, we will postpone Spring '03 until next Monday (26 November). Trevor Green Date: Mon, 19 Nov 90 22:15:50 EST Well, to set the record straight, it wasn't England's fault - he sent me a letter explaining what had happened and I got it an hour after I sent out my last letter. So Spring 1903 is due next Monday, although if I get everyone's orders by Thursday (Nov 22) I will process it then. Trevor P.S. It is supposed| |to help the English King to reestablish law and order in all Britain. The | |British anarchists have to disband several units this winter and the rest will| |pose no real opposition to the great French navy. | | | | German ambassador visits King Louis LXXIV. | | | |Paris - Tomorrow the German ambassador will meet our beloved King to explain | |the somewhat difficult-to-understand speech the Kaiser gave last Autumn. | |It is hoped that all problems will be resolved during that talk. "What we did | |understand, however," the King told the press, "was that Germany agrees to | |include the Ruhr in the army-free zone. Regarding Picardy, our troops are | |still waiting to cross the channel and will do so as soon as possible, | |when the tactical and strategic situations are right." He expressed His | |hope that Germany and Russia find a peaceful agreement for Scandinavia and | |that a German fleet - if one is build at all - will provide some help | |against the English threat. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Winter 1902 THE PAPAL BULL 250 Lira | | "100% Pure Grade-A Italian Bull" | | | | Arab Legion Formed in Venice | | Venice (IPS) Last week the Arab Legion was formed in the northern city of | |Venice, bringing to three the number of field armies the Italian High Command | |has at its disposal. The newest army, styled the 'Arab Legion', is | |comprised of newly recruited Tunisian soldiers who have chosen to fight for | |the greater good, not only of Europe, but of the world. Rumor has it that | |this unit will soon be moving eastward to support the vacationing children, | |but this rumor is unconfirmed as of press time. | | | | Admirial Julius Ceaser's Bad Luck Continues | | Naples (IPS) Admirial JC's bad luck streak continued yesterday when two of | |the ships under his command collided in broad daylight. The HPS Etu and the | |HPS Brutus collided off the coast of Greece, where they planned to support | |the Turks later on in the year. The plans to support the Turks are still on, | |though, provided they help the war effort in Serbia. All the admirial could | |say at first was the names of the two ships. The main event, Mediterranean yacht | |racing, was a large success. So far the results of the race are unknown, | |but the Italian fleet had reached the halfway point at the edge of the | |Tyrrhenian Sea and were preparing to turn around and head back towards | |Italian waters.
