QUICKLY. Meanwhile, here is a bit of "grey" press. It's author wishes to remain anonymous. The Khadaffi Daily: Top Conference of Arabic leaders! Our great leader, Imam Houssein al Khadaffi, has called upon several Arab- leaders to unite. Lybia, Syria, Tunis and Marokko have all suffered great economic losses due to the intensifying war in Europe. In a first time meeting in the capital today, the leaders and their ministers (Tunis' government in exile) have analyzed the situation in Europe and are now working on a package of measures which would take care off the respective nations' interests. During the press conference the leaders stated that: "The trade between our nations is crucial to the survival of our people. In first instance we can live without the trade with France, Holland, Belgium... the loss is great but managable. However, we can not do without trade amongst ourselves. We expect increasing naval activity in the the Mid-Atlantic Ocean, the Western Mediteranean, the Agean Sea and Eastern Mediteranean. Also, troop movements in southern Europe promise a heavy exchange. This means that our traders will be endangered if they use the normal sea routes. We think it may be possible to make arrangements with our islam brothers in Turkey to use their landroutes under protection. May Allah help us all and end this nightmare" The Nippon Underground --------------------------- International News: Tokio - Emperor Takashi Hajimoto called the Imperial War Staff in a meeting this afternoon. The Emperor after a night of several gallons of Sake and three concubines claims to have had yet another vision as a gift from His ancestors. In the vision, the Emperor saw a angry bear crashing to the fruit trees ruining all that was eatable. The Emperor explains that the bear is the infidel Czar set on controlling the whole of Asia, including Nippon. The Emperor has sworn to aid all nations in stopping the maniac. Is there nobody who can relief us from this emperor suffering from astral hallucinations? How long must we Japanese live with this nonsense? Rise children of the Samurai and get rid of this joke from the Gods! ``, ---------- Adjustment orders for Winter of 1903. (aust.012) England: Removes the fleet in the Irish Sea. Italy: Removes the army in Rome. Italy: Removes the army in Tyrolia. France: Builds a fleet in Marseilles. Turkey: Builds a fleet in Constantinople. Turkey: Builds an army in Smyrna. Turkey: Builds a fleet in Ankara. The next phase of aust will be Movement for Spring of 1904. The deadline for orders will be Tue Nov 20 23:30:00 MET. ---------- Broadcast message from loeb@nestor.greco-prog.fr as Master in aust: England has just told me he would like to resign from the game. I have sent a letter to Eric Klien asking for the replacement player and will inform you as soon as I have more information. England will be allowed to continue playing his country if he so wishes until the replacement arrives. Needless to say, the game risks to be delayed as a result of all this. Yours, Daniel Loeb, Master, Austerlitz "Combinatorics: The Thought that Counts" ---------- Broadcast message from loeb@nestor.greco-prog.fr as Master in aust: Seeing as the new England has signed on, the game is all set to continue. The old England has reportedly filled the new England in on what has been going on. The Spring 1904 deadline is Nov 20 however I am ready to change the deadline at England's request up to a week delay if he wants. (As allowed by EP rules.) I am going to be in the US between Dec 6 and Dec 31. Since many of you may also be on vacation, I suggest that no GM replacement is necessary. The judge can run the game by itself for a while, and if any one runs into problems, the game can wait until I return. Yours, Daniel Loeb, Master, Austerlitz "Combinatorics: The Thought that Counts" ---------- Broadcast message from eric@medinfo.gatech.edu as Italy in aust: Alas, the saying that good guys finish last is again coming true. Italy, in her bordering-on-stupid generous ways, agrees to help out dying Austria hold Trieste while feigning an attack on Vienna to keep anyone else from getting it. Austria says he will attack Ionian to cut support. Surprise! neither happens and I receive a third knife in my back. Well, I guess either Austria got greedy or became a puppet of the Sultan. Ah, Diplomacy....what a game. ---------- Broadcast message from loeb@nestor.greco-prog.fr as Master in aust: Finally, results are out! A little mailer problem for England (and France) but now everything is ok. The two retreats are due Monday but in order to catch up and allow Spring 1904 to be played within the week, I would prefer that retreats be sent in as soon as possible. Similarly, players should submit their builds and removals in advance using the PHASE syntax, and various conditions if necessary. The retreats will not effect supply center holdings, so we have the following "unofficial" SC turnover. Austria +Ven -Vie = no change England = no change France +Bel = 1 build Germany +Mos -Bel = retreat, or disband and 1 build Italy -Ven = disband, or retreat and 1 removal Russia -Mos = 1 removal Turkey +Tri = 1 removal One final note is on the number of void supports this turn. Germany supported Italy to attack Russia, but Italy did not attack Russia nor did he and France attack Germany. Instead, he tried to support Austria against Turkish agression. However, this support was also void since Austria was busy taking Venice! Yours, Daniel Loeb "Combinatorics: The Thought that Counts" ============================================================================= Baghdad -- Winter 1902 & Spring 1903 ============================================================================= Greetings from the GM, After finally getting through to the French player, here are the retreats/builds for the Winter of `02. Last ditch efforts will be needed to salvage the collateral of hotels, casinos, and resorts from the Riviera.'' The great thing about this camp, is that there are no guards. That's right, we don't even have to watch you, as for you there can be no escape. Your death will be our victory. Does the expression "There will always be an England" mean anything to you? It should, and you should think about that as the blockade puts an end to you. By the way, did I tell you that I don't like threats? I hope that is very clear to you now! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Constantinople (Reuters) - Confusion runs rampant in the Empire today after a major disagreement between the Sultan and Grand Vizier Masri concerning the "empire by marriage" policy. The Sultan has alleged that Masri has compromised the Empire's armies by forcing them to attack neighbouring countries in order to fulfill his desire to marry high ranking women in these countries. Observers here indicate that tensions here have been high since the Greek people said in a survey that Grand Vizier Masri is the equal of "pond scum that tries to take over the most beautiful lake in the world". Many of the observers here are afraid that there may be a Civil war here if these problems are not resolved soon. In other news, a joint Russian-Empire science team has found offshore oil in the Black Sea. Due to possible attack by belligerents to either Russia or the Empire, the site it being protected by a Russian fleet. The Empire's Minister of the Interior is quite pleased with the Russian cooperation on this point. He said, "Due to Masri's Mediterranean policies, we cannot protect the site with our own fleets. We are very happy with Russia taking a fleet out of commission when it could be of use to itself somewhere else in its wars." Our sources indicate that Masri's followers may try to take the site in an attempt to bargain with the Sultan if Masri loses favour in the government. ***************************************************************************** Berlin - Recent panic over major projects in the German education system kept e-mail systems down over most of the week in Germany. One person close to the Kaiser noted that due to a small clerical error, the Kaiser's computer account was actually disabled for a small time. Luckily, all information was recovered, but very slow links and long dialup times kept the Kaiser away from his mail. ***************************************************************************** Well, It seems that neither of us really wanted to have a pullout along our borders. They have jobs. 2. If they aren't hopeful, the President will fire them. So far they have managed to pull it off, but it's only a matter of time before they start to feel depressed: WASHINGTON - The U.S. Treasury's Bureau of Calculations announced today that the nation's economy is going to hell in a hand basket and probably will never get better. "I'm sorry, but I just can't feel hopeful about anything anymore," said government economist Elwood Welt, clutching a fifty-pound block of government surplus cheese. "We've tried everything. We've tried coming up with new statistics, we've tried using more colorful charts, and more recently we've tried drugs, but the truth is we are all very depressed about the economy and will probably take the rest of the day off." -- Dave Barry, "A Matter of Life and Debt" *************** Austria: (A VEN-PIE), F ROM SF ION-TYS, F ION-TYS, F NAP SF ION-TYS, F ADR-ION, F AEG SF ADR-ION, (A TRI-VEN), A TYR S Rus A MUN, A BOH-SIL, A SIL-BER, A PRU SA SIL-BER, A WAR SA PRU, A VIE-BOH England: A STP H, A BUR SA RUH-MUN, F KIE-BAL, (F TUN-ION), F GOL SF TYS-TUS, [F PIE SF TYS-TUS], F TYS-TUS, (F WME-TYS), F BAL-GOB, (F NAF-WME), F BAR SA STP, A HOL-KIE, (A RUH-MUN), *F BER H*, F NTS CA LON-BEL, A DEN SA HOL-KIE, A LON-BEL Russia: [A MUN S Aus A SIL-BER], A LIV S Aus A PRU, A MOS SA LIV, A SEV-UKR Notes: () indicates bounced moves.
