To show his great gratitude towards king Louis LXXIV.| |he married Caroline, one of the less beautiful of the seven daughters of the | |French king. | | | | French-Russian negotiations go on - no results yet | | | |Paris - Yesterday another meeting took place between French and Russian | |officials. However no results could be obtained since the Russians had no | |advice from the Czar. "We are sorry for that, but the mail connection to | |our government went down. However we do hope that we can answer the offerings | |of the great French king soon." the Russian ambassador said. | | | | Holland is free again due to French-German cooperation | | | |Brussels - "We are happy to see that now Holland is also freed from the Dutch | |and English government." Hercule Poirot, president of Belgium, told the press | |yesterday, "The fact that the famous first French army which already freed | |Belgium played an important role in the liberation of Holland makes all | |Belgians happy, especially the A-Belgians." Poirot expressed his hope that | |the German army in the Ruhr area would leave for other operations in the east | |or south, as "it is sometimes a little frightening to live surrounded by | |so many armies." | | | | King Louis LXXIV. congratulates Kaiser Wilhelm VII | | | |Paris - Our beloved king Louis LXXIV. sent a telegram to the German Kaiser | |congratulating him on taking Holland as well as liberating Sweden. He also | |expressed his concerns that the Russian Czar - who remained quite uncommu- | |nicative in the last months - may have a different opinion. He therefore | |strongly recommended an army in Berlin for defensive purposes. Moreover | |the army in the Ruhr area could also be used for defensive actions, e.g. in | |Boehmen or Schlesien. "Of course this would mean for that army to move | |through Munich, but we trust Our beloved neighbours in removing it from there | |in the next season." He also thanked the Kaiser for offering to build a | |fleet in Kiel. "A fleet might be as good as an army, e.g. if Scandinavia is | |considered. However We do think that the anarchistic units of Britain can be | |removed without help of a German fleet. But We surely leave this up to the | |Germans. What would somewhat affect Our faith in the long-lasting alliance | |between Germany and France would be the build of an army in Munich." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |The Russian Embassy issued an apology to the English ambassador. | | "Those were German barrel submarines!" | | | |Rumor has it than the Russian General Staff had been drinking too | | much Vodka the night last seasons orders were issued to the troops. | | Apologies were issued to the Turks, and it is hoped that in future | | Russia will figure out ahead of time exactly what the Turkish plans | | are, so as to provide more effective assistance. | | | |Russian diplomats are currently visiting Rome and Paris in hopes | | of forming a coalition aimed at stopping the German menace from | | spreading. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Free German Press -- We must expand to obtain more funds for the paper! | |We have a live report from the Kaiser himself. | | | | "Great piples of this vonderful nation. Armed with a song in the heart, a lollipop in the mouth and a | |sub-machinegun in the holster, the children departed from Venice on Friday, | |crossed the border at several points, and some even got to ride across the | |Adriatic in the fleet of French boats that the King was so gracious to | |send. Even the great German people kicked in to make this holiday what it | |is, lending our children support in their hour of need. | | However, not everone received this children's crusade in such a happy | |fashion. There are numerous reports of hundreds of innocent and helpless | |children being mowed down at the border by evil Austrians. Just another | |example of how the Austrians hate for anyone to have a good time. The new | |book, written by the little-known Apostle Akkbar, tells us that the rest | |of the Bible was written in a substitution code, where certain key words | |and phrases were substituted for others. For example, the word Jerusalem | |in the old Bible is actully a code for Serbia, and also it was not the | |Romans who persecuted the Christians, because Roman is a codeword for | |Austrian according to St. Akkbar. A more extensive study into the actual | |interpetation of the Bible is currently underway. | | | | Russian Aid Sought in Recapture of Holy Land | | Rome (VD) Pope Sadis I today announced that he was seeking Russian aid in | |the recapture of the new Catholic Holy Land, Serbia, from that thieving | |barborous horde called the Huns. "We support fully any attempt by either | |the Russians or the Turks to recapture this sacred place," announced His | |Holiness as he was inturupted in his five-times-daily prayer. His attention | |diverted away from Mecca, he then proclaimed, "I've forgotten completely | |about that old hot and dry holyland. Serbia is where it's at." He then | |returned to his prayer and reading of the Koran. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | The Italian Gourmet Quarterly | | "Fine feasting for all" | | | | p. 97 | |[continued from p. 43] is yet another inexpensive meal that can be prepared | |quickly, but is actually quite filling. | | | | Turkey in a bed of Greece | | | |Ingedients: 1 whole Turkey | | 1 vessel of Greece, well beaten | | Various Italian seasoning | | | |To prepare: Take the Turkey and place it in the Greece, making sure to | |remove any impurities that may be in the pan. Next, add Italian seasoning | |for taste. Although the spices of Albania can be quite tasty, I recomend | |adding ground seaweed of the Ionian variety. This is much more flavorful | |and usually a greater hit at any social function. Next, arrange so that no | |Greece can escape the pan, roast for one season, and Volia (sic), we have | |Turkey in a bed of Greece. Ottoman and Bulgarian plainclothes security | |officers saw a flash in the one of the upper windows of the hospital where the| |ambassador was convalescing. When the senior officer went up for closer | |investigation, he surprised two probable assassins who had sneaked in through | |the window of the neighboring room. The assassins knocked out the guard and | |fled. When he came to, the officer could not recount a description of the | |assailants, but reported that he might have heard some whisperings in | |Serbo-Croatian before surprising the two. The matter has been taken up with | |the local Serbian authorities." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Damasq (UPI): "In light of future conciliation with the Papacy and the Kingdom| |of Italy, the head commander has ordered the demobilization of all remaining | |units on alert here. Joris is travelling through Thursday, so the Fall 1901 deadline is Tuesday Nov 20 10:00 pm CST. Things should pick up after that. The question was raised about illegal orders - how do I handle them. Well, for simple F/A typos, I pay no attention, since obviously you meant the unit in the particular space: for instance an order of A MAO - Western Med would obviously be interpreted as F MAO - West. Med, and be legal, if stupid. Also, you need not write your attacking unit's support into the attacking unit's orders. So, A Gal - Ukr, A War sup A Gal - Ukr is fine, the support is good. This also applies to multinational support. Other than that, though, you're on your own. Following Eric_S_Klien's guidelines and the Diplomacy manual, if your order is illegal or impossible, it is treated as a hold. I can't start trying to notify people of apparently mistaken orders, because that wouldn't be fair to people whose email connections are slower or less reliable - we'd end up with big hassles over who got what notification when and whether his correction made the deadline, and so forth. Press: The Viennese Examiner ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FORCES MOBILIZED AS CHAOS ERRUPTS THROUGHOUT EUROPE (by Gordon Schumway) The Prime Minister went to the palace in the early hours of this morning to seek an urgent audience with the Emperor. After lengthy discussions the Emperor, with great reluctance, signed the order enabling the Prime Minister to declare martial law. Herr Geuber felt this extreme measure was necessary in the light of recent de- velopments on the political stages of our increasingly belicose neighbours. The garrisons in Vienna and Budapest have been put on short notice and the fleet in Trieste has set sail for an unspecified destination. Further, the borders have been sealed and no one is allowed in or out of the country without a permit and a visa from the Foreign Ministry. A stern warning was also issued by the Interior Ministry saying that any civil unrest would be harshly and speedily dealt with. The Press too have been told in no uncertain manner that it is their duty to maintain public morale in the testing times ahead. War is a terrible thing, so the sooner it's over, the better. To this end, this reporter would like to use this opportunity to encourage all able-bodied men out there to report to the nearest induction office. The Budapest Bugle ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What's it all about, Alfie? (by Johan von Trapp) THE Streets of Budapest and Vienna were this morning filled with the sound of feet all marching in time to the drums of war. The garrisons were mobilized and the fleet set sail. The mighty Austrian war-machine, dormant for years, has suddenly sprung to life! But where are our brave soldiers going? Are we once again going to immerse ourselves in a pointless Balkan war? Are we to ruin now the tenuous friendship we have for so long cultivated and nurtured with our great friends and allies the Italians? Do we not trust the Russians who only as recently as last year signed a non-aggression pact with us? This editor asks - no demands - to know the answers to these questions and only an explanation from Emperor Alfred III himself shall suffice. The people want peace, not hostility. We want to make new friends of old enemies, not seek revenge on behalf of our ancestors. I personally defy his Exalted Presence to tell his own people through that mouthpiece of a rag "The Viennese Examiner", why he has brought the country to the brink of a new era of conflagration and instability. Die Berliner Tageszeitung. THE WORDS ARE SPREAD: LECK MEIN ARSCH! (Berlin) Kaiser Anand of the just created German Empire has announced that diplomatical talks with the rulers of the major European powers have led to a secret operation by the name "Leck mein Arsch!". Kaiser Anand himself: "It's just meant to ensure our further existence in this world of treachery and evil minded jerks." Other German politicians however think that this operation is just a propagandistic invention of the Kaiser himself, to reveal his rather underdeveloped diplomatic skills. Herr Schmidt of the Socialist Fraction: "Well, we could hardly convince the Kaiser not to attack our socialist brothers in Russia. Instead of doing that the Kaiser has promised to attack his Imperialist English and French brothers." The French ambassador in Berlin denied any French/German aggressive mutual feelings. "Ou oui, yez, of courz we have stabbed ze Zerman Kaizer in hiz previouz livez, but why zould we worry about zim? Other rulerz will take care of zim!" Asked for his opinion on the possiblity of a German/French conflict in the near future: "Well, we have agreed on a DMZ. Burgundy is neutral!". For what it's worth! (From our foreign correspondent in London) KING KEN DOESN'T WANT TO COMMIT HIMSELF! King Ken hasn't made any binding commitments with one of the European rulers so far. His idea was to get Russia and Turkey fighting, support French hos- tility towards Germany and inform Austria and Italy that it would be in his intrest if those powers would bother each other for a while. With German help he would like to protect the Swedish friends, while France could help him to secure Belgium. Then with Russian help he would take Den- mark, with French support he could succesfull move an army to the European mainland. And bingo! Peace and happiness in Western Europe! King Ken hasn't made up his mind with regard to East and South Europe, but it's generally assumed that parts of Italy, Russia and Turkey will be brought under English protection within five years. (From our foreign correspondent in Moscow) THEIR STRUGGLE, OUR STRUGGLE... The most treacherous man ever, Secretary General Joris, has adopted "In- ternational Class struggle" as his doctrine for the next few years. "The workers should unit and fight the bourgeois rulers of Europe". "Russia will be glad to help them in their good work. Eliminate the leading class and install people Republic's headed by our communist puppets... ooops, ehmm.. our communist comrades." (From our foreign correspondent in Paris) DAUPHIN JAMIE NOT SEEN FOR A WHILE! Dauphin Jamie hasn't showed up at a huge celebration party last friday. After a short inquiry it turned out he was still making plans in the field of foreign policy at his Palace at Rue Vergot. Basically there are 3 plans: 1) one in case England is hostile; 2) one in case Germany is hostile; 3) one in case Italy is hostile; who are subdivided in 3 other subplans: 4) one in case both England and Germany are hostile; 5) one in case both England and Italy are hostile; 6) one in case both Germany and Italy are hostile; leaving two other plans: 7) none of the powers is hostile (idee fix); 8) all of the powers are hostile (more likely); The general solution to the problem is: I) ally with the ones who are not hostile; II) if that ain't possible, try to find some other power who's willing to tie up a hostile power's forces. Therefore all of the powers involved received sweet notes about "non aggressive standard openings" and Russia, Austria and Turkey were kindly invited to take care of the three neighbouring states. (From our foreign correspondent in Vienna) I got this note from the General Staff office in Vienna... Dear friends, I thought I'd dash off a note to give you my opinion about the present state of war in Europe. First of all, I would like to warn all foreign rulers, that Joris and Con- stantijn are friends (in real life). My justified conclusion is that those folks are cooperating and that they will come after my Irish but sooner or later. That's why I have opened rather defensive, securing my further existence. Your sincerely, John Aidan O'Regan (Austria in Masters of Deceit) (From our foreign correspondent in Rome) GENERALISSIMO CONSTANTIJN IS VERY ANGRY! Generalissimo Constantijn was quite upset when he heard about the Austrian plans to tie up his forces in the North of Italy. "Well, I can forget about Lepanto's, anti-French openings and whatever I had in mind for this war!" "Terrible! (sniff)" He expressed the hope that Kaiser John Aidan Ist would soon recover from his sudden paranoia and allow the Italian forces to move somewhere else. "We have got better things to do". (From our foreign correspondent in Ankara) YO HO! KILL KILL KILL! Sultan Doh na eld D has publicly announced a state of war between Turkey and all states which are headed by Christians. At the day after the announcement several foreign ambassadors were spotted near the Palace of Sultan Doh na eld D. The Russian ambassador explained that his beloved SG was not religious and hoped the Sultan and the SG could work out an anti- Christianity campaign. The Austrian ambassador stressed the Irish background of the Austrian kaiser... "Well, he was forced to become a good Catholic. Please have mercy with him!" The Italian ambassador had a story about the Generalissimo. He has read the Koran several times (especially the parts which are known as the old and the new testament) and doesn't recognise the Pope's authority in worldly affairs. The Sultan seemed a bit confused. No one has heard from him recently. email to: prb@chinet.chi.il.us FALL 1901 deadline Tuesday Nov. 20 10:00 pm CST.
