Germany, England and Austria have builds. --------------- Vienna Tribune: --------------- England => I think Italy _is_ as worried as I am. Why do you continue to bait her? Look how well-behaved she's been in the Med. France => For a "junior partner", the British sure are aggressive. Could you calm them down some? Are you going to let English fleets enter the Med? Germany => Good job in Holland! In Spring 03 my army in Bohemia will support the most obvious order you could make, probably A Mun H or A Ber-Mun. Italy => You moved F Tun to ION, so I assume you're interested in operations further East. When I get an army into Serbia I can afford to user F Gre to support you into the Aegean; until then, just try to outguess the Turkish fleet in the Aegean. Italy, Austria, and Russia can split Turkey three ways, each taking one supply center. I'll want Con to guard my back door; I assume you'll want Smy and Russia will want Ank. Is this acceptable? Of course, the real reward is that you won't have to worry about the Turkish navy. Russia => No, I didn't let you into Rumania this turn. I know you must be upset, but please hear me out. I was greatly surprised to find myself with Rumania and Bulgaria after the Spring move. I now have a compact, defensible homeland. If I had let you into Rumania, I would have had to leave three units to guard against a stab -- and you would have to worry about those three units grabbing Rumania back! I should also respond to Turkey's message. He sounds desperate; I don't think he's worried about the balance of power so much as staying alive. I have seven supply centers concentrated in a small area. You and Turkey aren't strong enough to hurt me, nor do you have a sufficiently wide front. There's no reason for Italy to backstab me when I'm serving as a buffer on her north and east. If the two of you team up against me, I'll have to use all my forces for self-defense. This means no help for Germany. Do you want the Anglo-French alliance to roll east even faster? Also, do you want an ally whose primary interest is "maintaining the balance of power", rather than gaining supply centers for himself and his allies? Who wants to have the Eastern powers squabble while the Anglo- French juggernaut heads east? And what kind of Turkish player is it who can't even hold on to Bulgaria? If we work together, we can wipe out the Turkish menace and keep our rear ends covered. You can have Ankara, I will take Constantinople to guard the "back door" to the Balkans, and Italy will probably want Smyrna for her efforts. (One nice side effect is that your fleet in Ankara and Italy's fleet in Smyrna can't attack each other; this should reduce tensions all around.) I will stay out of Galicia; I can get in easily enough if you move against me. With each of us donating an army for Germany's support, England and France can be held off for a long time. Are you with me? Turkey => Your spring press left me no alternative. To ensure my own safety, I must press for your immediate and total destruction. ---------- The Times: ---------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Switzerland -CaN We StoP ThE FunnY FonT WarS AnD HavE ThE GM EdiT All PresS to LooK ThE SamE, ThuS GivinG BlacK PresS A ChancE? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- England ----> Russia Well. We have no ambitions beyond St. Petersburg, but it was essential for us to get a center this year. We may be persuaded to withdraw. England ----> France Since Germany is concetrating against me, I took a brief detour into St. Pete this turn to assure myself of a build. I intend to occupy the Scandanavian centers; that leaves you clear to take Holland this year. I will try to keep hacking away at the German fleets, to cut his supports. Once again, a build of F Brest would dissolve our alliance. As would a move to the Channel. But I didn't have to tell you that, no? As I see it, our mighty alliance shall sweep eastwards forever. And if you get the lion's share of Germany, c'est la guerre. England ----> Germany War...is all hell. England ----> Itlay You'll have to decide sometime as to which direction you're going in. How about stabbing Austria where it hurts, just to stop his threatening press against England? Just a thought from your seafaring pals. -------------- La Parisienne: -------------- (Various cities, fall 1902) The President issues the following statements to the other world leaders, in a slightly different format from spring : the -> has been replaced with a =>. The prose style, however, remains consistent! Austria => As I previously stated, I do not wish to have a MedSea quarrel. I have been forced to take defensive measures, however, and place fleets in the Med due to Italy's spring moves. Don't take my anti-Austrian statements personally. It's just that, as you can't allow Germany to crumble immediately, I can't allow Austria to pulverize Russia and/or Turkey immediately. England => I will try to let you know if I will have a fleet in the MAO. Have fun with your naval battle against Germany. Denmark will be yours soon, and Kiel should soon follow. As they say, "Brittania rules the waves!" Long live the Queen! Italy => Your spring moves have caused me deep concern. I would like to honor our Med agreement, but your blatantly anti-French moves may make this impossible. You have forced me to put my fleets to sea for defensive purposes. If your fleets have moved out, I will move mine out, OK? Please realize that the Austrian empire must be stopped NOW or it will never be stopped. You are in a position to control Austria's growth. Austria says he is not at war with anyone, but is simply taking extra supply centers. Maybe he will take one of yours next? You are the swingman in the Balkans. Austria and Turkey will be deadlocked, unless you interfere. HELP TURKEY OUT! As things stand now, neither you nor I has an advantage in the Med; we can fight each other for no gains there, or we can both use our units more productively elsewhere. I vote to be productive elsewhere. What does the Pope vote? Russia => The Austrian empire must be stopped. Strongly consider my spring press, and Turkey's spring press. Austria's occupation of Rumania, whether or not he vacates in Fall, is an invasion of what should be Russian territory. Austria and Turkey will be deadlocked in the south; the next logical target for his armies is Russia. Act now, or you may end up unable to act later. On a happier note, any help you can give England with your Northern fleet would be much appreciated. Turkey => My humble apologies to the Sultan for encouraging attacks against the Ottoman empire. I agree with you that the Austrian juggernaut must be stopped, and I wish you the best of luck in your defense. Hopefully Russia and Italy will provide you some assistance. ------------- Berlin Bugle: ------------- To Italy, Turkey, Russia: Italy, we need to deal with the French question quickly. Consider what her next target will be if I'm knocked out. Austria is also getting dangerously strong. Turkey, you're sufficiently weakened that teaming up with Russia against Austria would be to your best advantage. Italy, I think that it would be prudent to stab Austria quickly if it's not already too late (look where that build will show up). All other press from Germany is forged. As proof that this is real, it's coming very very late and is the cause of the game delay. ------------- Roman Herald: ------------- To Austria: Room for one more in this little to do? To everyone else: Home delivered pasta anyone? --------------- Moscow Gazette: --------------- The appointment today of Sergei Konstovich, recently returned from virtual exile in the sothern wastelands of Novokazakhastan, to the post of military governor of Constantinople and Ankara, was warmly received by a gathering of the regional officials for the Moscow area. While perceived by most foreign observers as somewhat premature, and even overly unfriendly towards the Turkish regime, the Underassistant for Southern Affairs justified the action as being the appropriate response to Turkish agression in the Black Sea and the Kavkaz. "When Turkish military units are withdrawn from Armenia, then the talk of co-operation can begin. Until that point, it is clear that Turkey has no interest in peaceful relations with Russia, and clearly wishes to see Turkish units in the Rodina herself. Such a thing can never be allowed to happen. Should the armies in Armenia be withdrawn to defensive postures in the Turkish homeland, our position could become open to change. Until then, we must defend our homeland with all the resources at our disposal." The Russian military attache assigned to London is reporting that the Tsar's warships in Sweden are willing to assist English vessels in moving on the open ocean, but that assistance with landings on the European mainland is unlikely. Russia wants it to be known that she supports free movement on the seas by all major powers. ---------------- Ankara Bulletin: ---------------- To Italy: Et tu, Brute? To Russia: I would repeat my previous msg, but think of the bandwidth I'd be wasting. To Austria: Do you feel that you have 'secured' your borders? Looks like I guessed wrong - I really thought Russia would try for Rumania and I would have a retreat for those poor Earthquake victims in Bulgaria. How long can you play on the Turkish threat theme? To England & France: Please please please hurry up with Germany. ------------ GM's Corner: ------------ OK, its here; a little (!) late, but here. But, we now have another player away until the 16th (friday week). So I am fixing the builds deadline for the following Monday (19th Nov). BUT get moves in ASAP anyway. I'm not sure if the plea (above) for press editing by the GM is serious, but in any case, I don't intend to do so. The GMs job is only to collate, not change. I rushed to get this out ASAP (Germany's moves came in sometime this morning) so check details of who has which centres etc, for errors.
