"We'll send lots of workers to help!" he | |said. However, rumors were spread that the Ministry of Defense is involved | |because some official was heared to speak about "a peaceful bounce in | |Piedmont" which nobody understood, as it seemed to be some sort of secret | |military code. | | | | King Louis LXXIV. sends note to British Queen | | | |Paris - In a telegram our beloved king today congratulated His long-distance- | |relative in England (she happens to be the niece of the brother-in-law of the | |aunt of the sister-in-law of the grandmother of the daughter-in-law of our | |beloved king) on her good health and reassured her of France's "peaceful and | |cooperative" way of thinking. | | | | Dutch oppress French-speaking majority in Belgium | | | |Brussels - The Dutch-controlled Belgian government today showed its real ugly | |face by preparing a law which makes all French-speaking inhabitants of Belgium| |second-class citizens and allows only first-class citizens (those who speak | |Dutch) to official positions. Hercule Poirot, speaker of the French-speaking | |majority, told on a press conference yesterday "that we hope our brethren in | |France will help us in our fight against this law!". The French government did| |not comment on whether the French army ordered to exercise in Burgundy may | |be ordered to bring peace and order back to Belgium. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Ankara (UPI): "The Sultan's fleet sails today from its Black Sea base to the | |Aegean, and its ultimate destination in 1903, the Ionian Sea, for joint | |maneuvers with the French Fleet. Although no word has been received from the | |St. Petersburg envoy, it is hoped that the White Navy will not sail into the | |Black Sea. The Defense Minister had formally proposed joint operations with | |the Tsar, but due to mishaps with the diplomatic courier, the Tsar never | |received the message. | | | |Therefore, the Defense Minister is using this event as an opportunity to | |reiterate his proposal to the Tsar. He added, `We hope our commitment to peace| |and non-aggression is evident in our choice to restrict our own fleets to the | |Turkish coast.'" | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Damasq (AP): "In response to the insurrection and strife in Tunisia, local | |Moslem authorities here at the Sultan's southern outpost have voluntarily gone| |on alert, in preparation for a repeat of the Crusades. Meanwhile, authorities| |in Istanbul frantically continue negotiations with the Roman leadership in | |hopes of preventing war." | | | |In a statement released to the press several hours ago, the Porte denied any | |complicity in an attempt on the Pope's life last month. The Porte extends its| |deepest regrets at the incident. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Istanbul (AP): "In light of the continued unrest in neighboring Bulgaria, the| |Sultan has ordered Turkish forces into Sofia to assist local authorities in | |maintaining order. The Foreign Minister deeply hopes that our Habsburg friends| |do not misconstrue this action as hostile." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Smyrna (AP): "Following an erroneous report that the Sultan's fleet was | |stationed here, the Defense Minister has ordered a quarantine of all military | |forces until the leak is detected. Though it is hardly believed that anyone | |took the report to be of any consequence, the military is not taking any | |chances. It is unknown whether a desire to start a Mediterranean/Aegean base | |here was in the works or not. In the meantime, the primary commander here has| |been ordered to assist in diplomatic overtures toward the Tsar." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |The Daily Mail - London, England | |February 26, 1901 | | | |In an offical announcement earlier this week the Navy declares their | |absolute command in the North Sea region. This relatively strong | |statement is obviously a reaction to the excessive military actions | |of our neighbours. | |The Admiral himself comments: | |"We will never accept either German or French fleets in the neighbourhood | |of the North Sea. We must, however, seek a political solution. It has been | |said that the Russian fleet is planning to invade Sweden. As a peaceloving | |country, we hate to see this, but we hope that Germany will stop this | |apparently barbaric action." | |In this announcement, the government also denies that the Queen has been | |assassinated and replaced by a puppet. The comment from The Daily Gossip | |that "the Queen looked rather like a puppet when she waved to the people | |from the Balcony", should, according to the announcement be just rubbish. | |Just because the Queen needs help to stand does not mean that they move her. | ================================================================================ Spring '01 of the game GET SOME (EP #81) (GM is roger@nuacc.bitnet/Roger Safian) (Will be in chapter one in future issues) Greetings, Here are the results for Diplomacy game #81 (Get Some) for Spring 1901. The invalid moves for this turn, are an example of some simple mistakes. I knew what you wanted to do, but your orders were not clear. Lucky for everyone that there was no harm done. Let's be careful out there. I don't want to be in the position to have to invalidate an important move because of something like that. Just for your information, I would have allowed the Russian support moves, but not the Austrian. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- LONDON, Reuter: SOLDIERS OR EXCHANGE STUDENTS? The British goverment denied all rumours yesterday regarding a possible invasion of Russia. In a press announcment, read to the members of the press, Mr. Stiff Upper-Lip stated that the British navy was simply carrying exchange students to St. Petersburg. When asked why the students, 150.000 of them, were heavily armed, he answered: "They are not guns, I tell you!. They are pencils". The press conference ended rather suddenly when Mr. Upper-Lip shot himself in the leg, when attempting to show this new revolutionary "pencil". --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Rome] The world was surprised by the surprising move to Tuscany (surprise!). The ambassadors of both France and Austria were seen to be biting their nails. "He must have a plan, I know he must have a plan" the Austrian ambassador was heard to mutter. When asked about the move, the Italian ambassador Fettucine Alfredo said "We wanted the troops to be well rested. Visit their mothers, you know, that sort of thing." When confronted with the fact that no-one lives in Tuscany, the ambassador said "Exactly!" No-one is quite sure what this means. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Moscow] The Tsar was reportedly enraged by the Turkish move to the Black Sea. "We will fight", he said,"fight to the last man to hold back the Islam hordes!" The Turkish ambassador replied "We are simply out sailing. I doubt 250,000 sailboats can be considered a horde! Besides, the Russians extended an invi- tation to our Sultan to visit their resort on the shores of the Black Sea. Surely the Tsar does not mind if the Sultan brings some protection?" The Tsar is reportedly foaming at the mouth. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [London] The King of England, Matthew I, reiterated his support for the Russian position in the South. "I was under the impression that fleets were illegal in the South", he said, "and I will do my best to help the Russians fight the Turks. All civilized people should do the same." When asked who he thought was uncivilized, he responded "Why, the...err..no comment." --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Berlin] The world's naval leaders turned to Berlin today where there was the unveiling of a revolutionary new technology: wheels! "This will allow us to make full use of our fleet. It need never leave land again!" bragged the German Admirals. The world's naval leaders kept turning. (On wheels, obviously!) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Paris] French leaders talked with Austria today in an attempt to determine policy towards Italy. Talks broke down, though, when the two nations could not agree on who should take Rome. The Italian ambassador was no help in resolving the matter, as he was concerned about his vacationing troops. The French ambassador finally concluded "Whoever gets there first shall have first dibs." France and Austria are now looking for someone to shoot the starting gun. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Vienna] Austrian leaders professed alarm at the amazing numbers of Turkish sailboats in the Black Sea. "We must match them in sailboat production!" the Kaiser was heard to order. "We cannot endure another sailboat gap! Especially now that we can use wheels on our boats!" When asked about the previous sail- boat gap, the Kaiser said "Ask the Russians." Unfortunately, the Tsar was unavailable for comment. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tsar to German: Your overtures of peace will be heeded as long as our rowing team is allowed to practice peacefully in Sweden. Iceland to Aus: Your worries are unfounded. He has no intention of attacking you. Tsar to Opiate: I certainly hope that your last message to me showed your true spirit. I would be VERY disappointed if you went back on your word. My moves this season are to make sure of you honesty... Rasputin->Self: And they thought that I was a menace...!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: The PM TO : President Raley RE : Germany Remember our offensive. We go after Germany first, then Russia and Italy, then Austria. By then, we should have enough people pissed at us that we'll have some real work to do on Turkey... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tsar to French: Hi! Tsar to Brits : Well, let's keep Scandinavia relatively neutral for now. We can beat each others' brains out later on in the game... Tsar to Re(I) : Dear Alfredo Pizzapaste: At the current time, I do not feel that I can accept any of your offers to help me attack any of my neighbors. I am currently getting along with them all, and such an act would probably spoil my drug trade. Besides, what can you do against England? Truly, Tsar of All Russias Tsar to World : Hi! Tsar to World2: Hello! Tsar to World3: Greetings! Tsar to World4: Can my fleet play in your bathtub?? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moscow Daily Herald, Semi Annual Edition... "All the 'news' that fits in print..." "Your paper for honest and truthful propoganda..." INVASION The people of Iceland are clamoring loudly to the rest of the world because the American navy has invaded the tiny island in search of the Bismark, a German ship that won't be built for thirty-odd years. As such, they have mined the North Atlantic and Berents Sea regions. Passage through either of these regions will definitely tick the idiots off, so the liklyhood of that third Russian fleet is looking slim. The workers at the Royal Archangel Shipyards were quite miffed as they were told the news. Some took the news well, as shown by their use of TNT to destroy most of the hulks of ships in the drydock. Others took the news less calmly. THE OLYMPIC TEAM TRAINS AWAY The Russian Olympic rowing and sculling teams have gone to foreign destinations in order to train for the upcoming olympics. The sculling team has departed to the Rumanian coast to use the highlands of that area. The coach is optimistic, saying that since the team is being given moral support by the nearby garrisons, they can't fail. The rowing team, on the other hand, is having a tougher time of it, because the German team has attempted to lay claim to the training areas in Sweden. At the writing of this article, it wasn't known what was about to transpire. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TWA Try Walking Across DELTA Doesn't Even Leave The Airport TWA Teenie Weenie Airlines FORD Found On Road, Dead FORD Fixed Or Repaired Daily FIAT "Fix It Again, Tony" Please note the moves that failed. In the nineteenth century this ski resort belonged to Emperor Chad's great grand mother baroness Teutonia von Sixpilsen and who was cheated out of it, after a flamboyant and scandalous affair with O. von Bismarck (in his younger days). It is uncertain how the latest claim by Emperor Chad will influence German Austrian relations. "This should really mess some people's heads up...," he said to press earlier today. Military strategists were puzzled at the simple hold in Venice without support. "I am going by the philosophy of the Chinese warlord Sun Tzu who says, `Attack the enemy where he is weakest with your strongest weapon,'" answered the emperor. "Itlay's weakest point is not any military buildup nor position, it's time. We can wait another half year while he wastes a lot of effort getting into Venice. Our strength is in our postition. We can now strike anyhwere, anytime. I sacrifice this center for an advantage." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moscow: The Tsar gave the reporters an impish grin as he told them, "Yes, our troops ARE enjoying their leave. Currently, they're sunbathing in Armenia. However, they are planning on taking the Turkish Sultan up on his offer to enjoy the warm sunshine and opium groves or Smyrna. We expect that the border guards will be slightly upset at the appearance of armed troops at their stations, but that little technicality is unimportant. If they have any objections, we ewon't push it. We'll just wait until our diplomatic corps makes it here from Rumania. We do, however, hope that the Sultan will listen to reason..." With that said, the Tsar then had all of the reporters shot for espreg the truth... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sicily: SOS...SOS...SOS...
