We the new Austrian people scoff at the moderator's predictions. We have yet to begin to fight. Allies; who needs 'em! -Ken, Heir Everlasting to the Austrian Throne ********** Broadcast message from loeb@nestor.greco-prog.fr as Master in aust: You've all gotten the Spring 1903 results but I still haven't received all the surveys. Italy, Turkey, and England should fill in their surveys and send them to me. Eric Klien said I should require these surveys. So there you are... they are REQUIRED. Meanwhile, a bit of light color commentary: AUSTRIA 1901-2 Opened anti-Russia expecting Turkish help with a side attack on Italy. In fact, Austria is betrayed by Turkey and losses his one ally Italy. Difficult situation for replacement player Ken Lowe in 1902. He can not stop the fall and continues fighting with Italy while losing Budapest to Russia. AUSTRIA 1903 Italy and Austria still don't appear to be collaborating. Austria's move to the Adriatic, and Italy's encirclement of Trieste can only be the final acts of war of two powers being destroyed by Turkey. I still predict Austria's destruction this Fall. ENGLAND 1901-2 Anti-French opening followed by a good guess wins Brest. The build in Liverpool hints at second front opening up. In 1902 the offensive in France goes bad due to some excellant French defense while meanwhile war breaks out versus Germany and Russia. ENGLAND 1903 England has lost his gain in Holland against Germany from last year, and is unlikely to take anything to replace it. Despite my prediction he should be able to hold onto Norway. The pacific French move out of the Channel is good news to England, but the bounce at the same time in the Atlantic may mean that the English-French story is not over yet. FRANCE 1901-2 Anti-Germany opening is a wrong choice seeing as Germany stayed neutral. Bad guess in Fall lost Brest. However, in 1902 France recovered his losses. FRANCE 1903 Instead of persuing an invasion of England, France seems to prefer making peace with his former enemy as I suggested he might last year. Germany is probably getting to big in his eyes as we can see from his move to Burgundy. Nevertheless, France has made to commitments to go East. He still has two fleets and hasn't crossed the German border. If the English retreat out of the Atlantic, I predict we'll see France trying to help Italy stop the Turks in order to maintain the balance of power. GERMANY 1901-2 Germany kept his cards to his chest with a very conservative opening, and then suprised Russia with a devastating attack. GERMANY 1903 Apart from retaking Holland, he continues to concentrate his strength against Russia. Now he occupies two Russia home centers and threatens the other two. The possibilities here are endless. Russia can retake either Warsaw or Moscow this fall by cutting support in the other one. Germany can counter these strategies by attacking either St Pete or Sevastopol respectively. England no longer appears ready to fall any minute now. But Russia is sure unstable. Once Russia dies, Germany will be ready to attack complete his control of Scandinavia. Meanwhile, Germany has to consider a few distractions which in theory could develop into real menaces. Italy, France and England all have units bordering German home centers. In particular, France and Italy can support each other. Will Germany take these threats seriously? ITALY 1901-2 Italy opens Lepanto but is betrayed by Austria. However, Italy is prepared to defend himself and take Tunis. However, his Lepanto is ruined and the Turkish fleets prove unstopable after a brief guessing game. ITALY 1903 Italy did defend Naples and Tunis this Spring as I mentioned. But by doing so he left the door open for the advance of Turkish fleets. A Turkish attack of Naples or Tunis this fall would be a guessing game since support can be cut. However, the guessing is getting even harder. Unless Italy patches up relations with Austria fast, he may have no spare unit left to cover Rome. And even in that case Turkey may wait a turn for the supply center and instead continue his march West but moving into Tuscany, Lyon or West Med and follow with his other fleets. RUSSIA 1901-2 Russia choses a southern opening going after Austria, but then reverses directions and builds an army up north. His attack of Austria is continuing with the aid of Turkey. Russia capture Budapest in 1902. However, Germany launches a suprise attack with tremendous gains. but he is set up to repeat it with support. RUSSIA 1903 Russia appear to make some efforts to cover his home front. But it will nevertheless be a huge guessing game. He is under attack all over. Perhaps he will instead try an attack at Vienna which while not a sure thing, at least looks more likely. TURKEY 1901-3 Turkey is allied with Russia, and has simultaneously attacked Austria and Italy with great success due to their lack of cooperation. His ally is in bad shape, but all the better for Turkey who now stands to capture the lion share of the spoils. As long as Austria and Italy continue fighting and France doesn't interfere, Turkey should finish off Austria this year or next, and Italy about a year after that. If Russia disappears of course Turkey will have to devote some forces to his new front versus Germany. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the success of the Corps Diplomatique in Berlin regarding 'L'Affaire Belgique'. As spokesman, Francois Nutreal stated with some emotion "... I am grateful that I am indeed a diplomat. Look what miracle we have accomplished." According monsieur Francois, France is also at peace with England. However, an aid to General Vendetta who wishes to remain annonamous, revealed that the General has some serious doubts as to whether or not England is indeed at peace with France. "The general has his doubts and, to be honest, so do I. We have a difference of opnion with monsieur Nutreal. If one looks at the current positions of the armed forces of the European powers and one also takes into consideration the ambitions of the respective leaders... No, we must make sure we are not taken off guard. Let us not forget Brest. His majesty the King of England may very well continue his assault on France and her territories should he have some doubts about the success of expansionistic efforts in northern Europe. That England's fleet in the Mid Atlantic Ocean could have a devastating impact on us, should be obvious. We therfore do not understand the attitude of certain members of parlement regarding the budget for the Ministry of Defense..." According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs negotiations with England are ongoing. Although several key figures within the department share General Vendetta's alledged reservations, the Minister remains optimistic. "The issue regarding the English fleet in the Mid Atlantic can be resolved given the right attitude." Other News: Workers of BON FRANCE's meatpacking company (Majority shareholder Le Marquis du T'Jin et Osse) have found remains of a human body in certain machines. One of the gruesome items is an upper arm with a tattoo "I love Mom". Although the Opposition leader, still missing, has such a tattoo, authorities do not wish to make any statements at this time. The management refuses to accept any responsibility. "Ever since zose English attacked us, we have been consistently experiencing several form of industrial sabbotage. We cink it's ce English. Zey try to reduce our productivity, our moral. We shall beef up security to prevent such incidents in ce future." The mangement refused to comment on the possibility of a politcal scandal involving Lady Luscious Fruits, the (late?) Opposition Leader, members of the familty du T'Jin et Osse and perhaps Le Marquis himself. ********** Broadcast message from STAL031@KUB.NL as France in aust: Paris, Le Figaro: WAR AGAINST GERMANY? Sources close to Le Marquis fear that France may soon be involved in a two-front war as repeated diplomatic missions regarding the 'Affaire Belgique' have failed. Although negotiations are still ongoing, sources inside the Ministry of Defence report of preparations for an impending offence in the eastern regions of the nations. In today's session of the Parliament a heated debate regarding the impending two-front war resulted in the removal of Monsieur Sean Le Beech, Leader of the Fraction "Opposition because of Opposition", from the House of Representatives. Although the Opposition lost today's debate on the issue, party top-dogs fear that Le Marquis may be losing support from the people. During a press conference Le Marquis stated that although negotiations with the Kaiser had not yet resulted in an acceptable arrangement, a discussion regarding war on Germany was premature at best. "... Negotiations are still ongoing. The Kaiser has thus far been a reasonable man. I therefore, believe it to be of ill taste that certain elements in the Parliament try to sensationalize the situation in the hope for additional support from the people. The people should realize that I am here to defend France and her interests and that certain public statements made by those opposing me could very well cause a two-front war..." Other News: Monsieur Sean le Beech suddenly dissapeared this afternoon. He was last seen with Lady Lucious Fruits at her residence just south of Paris. Inquiries by the police regarding the well being of the Opposition leader have had no results. "Jes, was here to discuss ce topic of ce day but he left with some friends of his! I swear!", the lady exclaimed when confronted with possible charges for murder or kidnapping. Lady Lucious Fruits has always been an ardent supporter of Le Marquis. However, even her traditional enemies doubt whether she has anything to do with the dissapearance of the Opposition Leader. ********** Broadcast message from PS9ZRHMC@MIAMIU.bitnet as England in aust: Even though we have obviously had our differences in this game, I would like to thank our French player for his hilarious broadcasts.
