Ars Magica PBeM From: nexus@cgdisis.cgd.ucar.edu (Jeff Berry) Date: Fri, 02 Nov 1990 16:58:25 +0000 OK, I'm dead bored, so what the heck, I will run an Ars Magica PBeM game. If you know how to play Ars Magica, then you may skip to section 2. If you don't but are still interested, then read section 1. Section 1. If you wish to play in this game, then buy Ars, just kidding. AM is an frp set in medieval Europe as people thought it was. An Order of Magi known as the Order of Hermes, lives on the fringes of this society, and pursue their own obscure goals. In Ars, one plays either these magi, their companions, or their muscle. Don't kid yourself, the Magi outclass everyone else in terms of power. So what, some of the best role-playing comes from the non-Magi. Anyway, if you want to play and don't wish to buy the game, you can play a companion or a guard (termed a grog), but not a magi, for the simple reason that magi are hard to build without the game. Alternately, if you can talk one the Magi into taking you as an apprentice, then that might be OK. After you've played a while, then I also might let you start a mage, just since you might have picked it up by osmosis. Seriously, it is very hard to build a mage without having access to the rules. Still with me? OK, assuming you don't want to buy the rules, you can still be a companion or a grog. If so, then ASAP send me a description of the character you want to play. Keep in mind, this is medieaval Europe as it was in the minds of the people. So, don't send me Priests of Set or anything. I will look it over, and if it is acceptable and interesting, build a first version and return it to you. This will iterate. If it is not, I will tell you why not, and again we will iterate until done. Section 2. You theoretically know how to play. I will run an Ars Magica play by e-mail game. Anyone who is interested should tell me so, and also specify whether they would prefer to play in an established Covenant or start up a new one. If you prefer an established covenant, what kind? Also, anyone, player or not, who is interested in taking turns as GameMaster is encouraged to say so and sign up. If you have characters to send, do so, otherwise, I'll just put you on the list. badger Don Alexandre Lerot d'Avigne Jeff Berry Caer Galen, Outlands nexus@ncar.ucar.edu NCAR doesn't tell me what to think, and I return the favor.
