Rocko Davis brings with him a new run and shhot offensive style of play. While Davis acheived a great deal of success with his coaching strategies at the collegiate level, it remains to be seen how well they will perform at the tougher professional ranks. Session A will probably tell a lot about how the Goalmongers' season will go... Rookie Defender Earl Battey is still unsigned and club officials are reportedly looking around the leagues for anyone who has interest in signing the unproven youngster. Apparently Earl's agent is veteran forward Julian Chay, who is making his first attempt at salary negotiation a circus. Chay wants the club to pay Battey a salary similar to that offered top-drawer prospects Ed Bailey and Johnny Bench. Frequent shouts of "Get in! Get in! Ooooh!" were heard throughout all matches. New addition P.D.Q. Gumby impressed many onlookers with his flower arranging, but deflated several footballs trying to wrap long-stem roses around them. **** NEWS FROM THE TUB **** The beginning of a new season, with hope once again overflowing. A freshly washed and pressed team seem set to take the field for session A. New signing Tony Domestos, a Greek import to the UEFL, is known to have greater power at killing off the opposition. The first session is likely to tell. **** ***************** **** [Tom T. Nose, Bud Bowl, Milwaukee] This reporter has been out to see the Stupors during practice. He was impressed by the intesity of the team but was disturbed by the lack of depth in the various positions. When he got in to see Coach Eacker, he expressed this concern and received a gruff reply back about the damn draft going haywire. Coach Eacker had hoped to pick up one or two good people and was upset with his own lack of responses. He had some good drafts going in the first round but ended up not getting anyone out of the draft. To fill out his roster he has decided to bring up a pair of players from the minors. Bass Ale has a history of being a strong Forward and is looking to fill out the forward position with the Watt Ney's smooth form. He is also looking to get one or two more players in the defender and midfielding spots. But will have to wait for the availabilty of good players. This hectic first week was extremley tough for Rigor M as their club house was totally rebuilt before this season. It isn't finished yet so some of the players have problems finding their gear.
