Sources within the Corps Diplomatique report aggressive rethoric from the Czar towards France. In his latest statement, the Czar has referred to French citizens as "frogs". Le Marquis stated that rumors should not be taken seriously. However, he has dispatched a delegation to Moscow to talk about this change in attitude. "It could be fatal to the Alliance if Russia decides to move against us. We feel that a serious effort should be made to apeace the Czar (if he is indeed the source of the provocative statement). The German Ambassador in Paris has been invited for a meeting with Le Marquis to discuss the matter. K. walked away humming "Hail Brittania" he was siezed by KGB agents who threw him to deck of the good ship Lollypop, frisked him, and found a wad of Duetschmarks inside his belt. Upon threat of inummerous tortures, the admiral quickly confessed that he was actually in the pay of foreign agents and had been about to turn the fleet over the Germans. The new commander of the fleet, General Markov has tryed to revitilize the morale of the fleet by playing the following tune over and over again through the ship's intercoms: "Hi ho, Hi hee, by land or by sea, through friend or through foe, its off to Sweeden we go! And thence onto Kiel where we'll all get free meals. And onward to Paris to see my friend Ferris." Rumors that General Markov has been recently released from the Siberian Insane Asylum have not been confirmed. signoff -- Rick Broadcast message from westerm@bchm1.aclcb.purdue.edu as Russia in aust: Newsflash (Moscow): After a long sojourn in St. Petersburg, the Russian fleet sails out into the stormy waters of the Gulf. Admiral Kurksat, in charge of the departing fleet, is quoted as saying, "I am glad to be sailing again, I just wish it were under more pleasant conditions". When asked where his final destination is, the Admiral refused to answer, but as he walked briskly away, he could be heard to humming "Hail Brittiana" under his breath. signoff Broadcast message from loeb@nestor.greco-prog.fr as Master in aust: Good, Spring 1906 orders are finally out. Austria and Italy continue to defy my prediction of their demise early in the game. While the Western powers dig in their heels against Russia and Turkey. Russia has been forced to retreat, and should enter his order as soon as possible. Meanwhile, those whom his retreat does not effect should also enter their Fall orders as soon as possible (using the PHASE syntax if necessary). Even if his retreat does effect your moves, the PHASE syntax along with an IF or two should do the trick. Incidentally, for those who are curious, this game is DIAS (draws include all survivors). That means that if you all were to agree to a draw right now---all countries would share equally in it. Upon questioning, he explained that he was "taking a vacation for his health". The Russian authorities offered free room and board in a nice far away resort town near upper Siberia, but the ambassador declined, protesting, "Ze weather is cold, ze food is cold, and ze women are cold while my heart, it is hot". Upon further questioning about why he had come to the Motherland a couple of years ago offering a pledge of a tri-alliance between Turkey, Russia, and France, the ambassador simply shrugged his shoulders and replied, "Zo Englishmen, zhey were on our borders. Now zhey are not. We simply find ze best deal when and where we can." Flowers have been sent. "The good thing is that he has kept his sense of humor... If only he kepot his sense for strategic/diplomatic success. He should turn against the Turkish now before it's too late". According to sources in the intelligence community Grey Wolves have consistently tried to undermine the Austrian government by supllying false, inaccurate information about European nations and their governments. LONG LIVE THE ALLIANCE. VIVE LA FRANCE, HEIL TO THE KAISER AND GOD SAVE THE KING SIGNOFF Broadcast message from STAL031@KUB.NL as France in aust: Le Figaro, Marseilles - RUSSIAN PROVOCATION ESCALATES IN WAR DECLARATION Le Marquis has ordered the French Ambassador in Moscow back to France. Diplomatic efforts trying to keep Russia in the alliance against Turkey had failed many monmths ago. The Marquis' cabinet however decided not to make any public statements as France still hoped for a miracle. "The Czar has failed us all: he has betrayed us". Le Marquis has pledged funds to help finance the British campaign in northern Russia. OTHER NEWS: Munich - Due to a defective postal coach France failed to utilize the support of the Kaiser's IIIrd Army, thereby missing a unique opportunity to seize Venice from the Turks. Brigadier General P. Ainfull said, "This is a very painful blunder. However, such things happen, it's war-time." With the reinforcement of the Northern Turkish front. Officers in the French fear that there is no hope for a breakthrough. "All that France can do is to hold off the Turks on the Ligne Fatale till the allied forces succeed in a breakthrough on the Central front. Italy's Naval Commander, Admiral Pentagelli, was awarded with the Order of the Red Lion for his outstanding performance in the support of the Ist Fleet. Rumor has it that the Admiral has been invited to Paris by Marquise Elizabeth for a vacation. Sources close to the French admiralty expect changes in the naval tasks assignments. No one was willing to confirm a rumor that the Italian fleet would retreat so that the IIIrd fleet could take over the defense of Tunis. According to the rumor a "swith" would take place. Experts however agree that such a strategy culd be fatal in the defense of the Southern sea and therefore expect this to be a pure rumor. Signoff Broadcast message from STAL031@KUB.NL as France in aust: Le Figaro, Paris - AMBASSADOR IN MOSCOW RETURNS TO FRANCE Le Marquis received the Ambassador to Russia today upon his return. After a, what we assume to be a debriefing, the ambassador gave a press conference. According to the ambassador he was mistreated by the Russian Secret Service. The Russian secret service has been known in the past to abuse diplomats of nations who have fallen from grace. The ambassador has no explanation for the turn in attitude of the Czar. Till the Sultans forces succeeded in defeating the Austrian and Italian forces, the relationship between France and Russia had been non-hostile. The Ambassador suspects here the influence of the Sultan's Grey Wolves. The Czar would not be the first European leader to fall for the Sultan's retoric. France will do everything possible to avenge the mistreatment of its ambassador Le Marquis stated. Critics of France's leader have accused Le Marquis of trying to bring on the destruction of France by not trying harder to apease the Russian ruler. "This mentality was also the cause of the Franco-Anglo war! Look how our people suffered". A spokesman for Le Marquis in turn accused the crtics of being proffesional critics. "Cey always have something. If they are not protesting against the war with Russia or Turkey, they are protesting that we are not taking a strong enough stand against foreign governments. Cey should for once try to shut up!" The recent development in the relationship with Russia will, according to experts, not lead to a military conflict with Russian troops as they are too far away to attack France. The experts unanamously agreed that Russia, though a power to be reckoned, is not in the position to make valid threats. English forces are suposed to dethrone the Czar-turned-traitor within the forseeable future. This opnion is also shared by the Ministry of Defense, though they were not willing to supply details. Rumor has it that the Kaiser, by word of Field Marshall Frederick von Schaken, has guaranteed France that they will not cooperate with the Russian hostilities, ergo not allow Russian troops to march over German soil. The rumor also states that German scientists have been working on a new weapon which would enable them to keep Russian troops in Russia for a long, long time. The weapon is referred to as "Project V.O.D.K.A". signoff ============================================================================ Baghdad -- Spring 1905 ============================================================================ Greetings, Here are the moves for BAGHDAD, Spring of `05. I suggest that you send your ambassador to Downing street at your earlest convenience. The life you save may be your own! London (AP) Turkey was granted favorite nation status today. At a press conference the P.M. was heard to exclaim "Hey, I always did like those little red hats." Please note the moves that failed. Chad --------------------------------------------------------------------------- By default, the Turk has to disband the unit from Bulgaria... Please make the appropriate changes in the game status... Chad --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: delay in the moves for Fall of `05 Guys, As of a couple hours ago, the United States has launched a FULL SCALE air strike on Iraqien forces and strategic military targets. Due to the delicate nature of the 1st-strike results and to put our minds at ease a little bit, I am going to postpone the deadline until a time when I get the word from Nathan that he is going to be OK and that Israel is no longer in serious jeopardy. I have a LOT of friends who are currently in Saudi Arabia and my attention is going to be mostly there as I am SURE it will be for most of you. In fairness to everyone, I will be postponing the date. That will probably only last for a few days, but never- theless I am declaring this game adjourned. You guys in the states may still use the time to negotiate if you'd like, but I didn't march in all those peace movements for nothing. Anyway, may GOD help us and let us all pray that this waar will come to a conclusion soon. If it comes to a point that you all deem it necessary to edict me for this action, then so be it, but consider what Nathan is going through right now. As far as DIP goes, there is a conflict with the final French unit and a correc- tion must be made. Roger-- you are the proud owner of a new Brest and Brian-- you may take the ego trip for the one being responsible for annihilating the last French unit. I understand that there was a confusion about the Italian unit builds on the last turn, but from what I can see, the Italian has NOT moved any unit that he shouldn't have. What that means is that the units that he has moved are in accordance with what he built. So far, Roger has been the only one that has pointed that out to me. If anyone can give me more evidence, please do so. I will send more notice about when we are going to be starting up again. Chad ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK, guys, I've gotten the word from Nathan and he says that he can continue the game. I thank you all for the support you've all given me for postponing the ga game, now I think that the game BAGHDAD can resume. I've gotten requests for the positions of the units thusfar and an update. I also understand that there was a little bit of confusion about the placement of units as a result of the last attack. To avoid any confusion about the positions and moves, the real controversy was whether or not England had gotten into Brest like he did. After a review, this IS verified. Roger, congrats you have BREST. The French are completely out of the game now due to NO valid retreats from Picardy... There was an Italian retreat to Ruhr. The Turk has to disband the unit in Bulgaria due to NO valid retreat as well. The unit positions according to my records up to date are the following: Country Army Fleet ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Austria Boh, Tyr, Ank, Bul Gre England Edi, Nor Spa(sc),NoS,NwS,Bre,BaS Germany Mar, Bur, Pic, Mun Bel Italy Ven, Pie, Ruh GoL, Tyr, Tun Russia StP, Sil, War, Rum BkS Turkey Smy Aeg I think that I might have missed a German unit. For some reason I think that that is rather low in number. I think they have at least ONE more unit. Could somebody check me on this? Of course, if you guys disagree with any of these positions, please tell me. I'm just as human as the next guy... etc. etc. BTW, The deadline for the Fall of 05 is going to be due Sunday evening by 00:00 EST... (Sorry, that's 24:00)... That gives you Sunday as well...
