I need the following: To know what unit types the locations correspond to for Austria (I think that I could figure it out, but I'd hate to blow it). To receive orders from Russia. To notify of the new Germany (although I already have orders for Spring 1913): >Michael Norrish >3 Waipapa Terrace, >Wellington 3, >New Zealand >norrish@st1.vuw.ac.nz >phone: (04)861360, (to which you will have to add the appropriate prefix to >get calls to New Zealand). >I only work part-time, on weekday mornings, (sometimes only Tue-Thur), >but the number is (04)720030 ext 8335. I also need results from Fall and Winter (1912). Could someone send a list of players by address/name/country? (Obviously I already have Germany). Please identify that you are from "El Al", and your country. I'm playing in another game and gming another, so too many Germanys, etc. will confuse me until I know all of your names. Lastly, I need to mention that I am going to be away (on vacation) from Dec. 19-26/27ish...When do you people all plan vacations? ----------------------------------------------------------------- Grant Kalinowski grant@portia.stanford.edu McFarland 4E Escondido Village Home: (415)-497-3779 Stanford, CA 94305 Work: (415)-723-5210 This information is subject to change (I'm moving on 1/6 and will change labs before the end of the month...). I don't know if you're supposed to send votes to me or the former/current gm...you could try both. I'll read the votes on Monday and let you know. Grant Date: Fri, 14 Dec 90 09:58:05 -0800 I've no idea what's going on here folks. The old gm has set a due date of 12/16 for retreats. I'm going to be leaving for the weekend this afternoon (coming back Monday) and can't cope with that. If you send them to me I'll have to post them on Monday. As far as everything else goes: 1. I am only assuming at this point which type of unit corresponds to the Austrian units. 2. The material that I've received (all of 1912 and Spring 1913) has been sent to the new Germany. I have also sent him your addresses. 3. Why did you guys need a new gm? If the old one is still around, then what am I doing here? Did you guys vote him out or something? 4. I don't think that we'll manage to get through 1913 (at least before I leave). If the old gm is still out there and maintains a breakneck pace it might happen. I'm on vacation from today until Monday (17th) and again from midday on the 19th until the 26th. I'll check mail before I leave on Wednesday (19th). If the old gm is managing things, could someone ask him to tell me when he wants me to take over? ----------------------------------------------------------------- Grant Kalinowski grant@portia.stanford.edu McFarland 4E Escondido Village Home: (415)-497-3779 Stanford, CA 94305 Work: (415)-723-5210 Date: Mon, 17 Dec 90 14:05:57 -0800 I've only heard from three of you about the draw proposal. I am going to be gone for a week beginning Wednesday and the new Germany will lose net access from 12/21 - 1/7. I am assuming that he is not the only vacationer. If I don't hear from people by Jan. 1 or so I'll just assume they are no votes and the draw is rejected. There are a few of you that I have not heard from at all. I need to know if my messages are getting to you. If I haven't heard from everyone by the time we're ready to get started again (Jan. 7 or so) then I'll have to assume that connections aren't working and try to find out what's going on. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Grant Kalinowski grant@portia.stanford.edu McFarland 4E Escondido Village Home: (415)-497-3779 Stanford, CA 94305 Work: (415)-723-5210 Fall '10 of the game SQUALANE (BNC number 1990AA) (GM is ames!wyse.com!adyer%endor@harvunxw.bitnet/Andrew Dyer) Austria : aok@mentor.cc.purdue.edu/Brian Jacobs England : demarsee@gamera.cns.syr.edu/Darryl Marsee France : richard_v._lamb@ub.cc.umich.edu/Richard Lamb Germany : gfj@attunix.att.com/Garry Johnson Italy : dmb@crayamid.cray.com/David Bowen Russia : quark@bucsf.bu.edu/Paul Fu Jr. Turkey : rmal@cernvax.cern.ch/Richard Lucock Date: Tue, 1 Jan 91 16:14:59 PST Now that the holidays are over - hopefully we can get underway. "Since our German | |brothers are under severe attack from Russia, we offer our support to them. | |In coordination with the army staff in Paris I therefore ordered my brave | |soldiers to save Munich, this fabulous German town, from the attack of the | |troops of the Czar. We hope to keep all foreign troops out of Bavaria this | |way so the Germans can celebrate their famous 'Oktoberfest' all alone. Of | |course we would have done something different if our German allies had asked | |for it, but - alas - no information made it to France. Several A-Belgians were killed by terrorist groups | |formed by the B-Belgians. While the Belgian government under its famous leader| |Hercule Poirot brought the riot to an end - with help of the French army - | |severe difficulties arised in the Netherlands themselves, where several | |German soldiers were killed by Dutch nationalists. The supreme command in | |Paris has therefore decided to order the French troops that successfully | |stopped the riot in Belgium to support the German administration in Holland. | |A spokesman expressed the hope that the support will keep the French-German | |relations on their high level. If the German government lets us know about | |any place we could be of more help, we'll be glad to support them, given | |that Germany is the only barrier between us and the mute Russian troops." | | | | Turkish ambassador meets King Louis LXXIV. | | | |Paris - After a meeting with our beloved king the Turkish ambassador in France| |expressed his conviction in the neutrality of France in the new war between | |Turkey and Italy. "We know about the good relations between France and Italy | |and just hope that France keeps out of the Eastern Mediterranean. The Sultan | |sees no problems to throw Italy out of Greece next year and is fully satisfied| |with the promise of the French king not to support either of the opponents." | |Shortly after that the Italian ambassador visited the Louvre and talked to | |King Louis. "I just wanted to make sure that the great and wonderful treaty | |between our countries still holds," he told the press afterwards. "I'm happy | |to say that your great and wonderful king assured me of his neutrality in the | |Turkish-Italian war, which really is a war of the great and wonderful | |Christian civilisation against the Muslim barbarism." An official from the | |king's palace announced that "France will remain strictly neutral and just | |defend its great and wonderf - ahem, positions in the Gulf of Lyon." However | |our reporter got information from a source near the king that "He surely hopes| |for a victory of catholicism and the success of Pope Sadis in getting to the | |Holy Land." | | | | English anarchists murder daughter of King Louis | | | |Wales - The terrorist groups that conquered London in spring and who killed | |the legal king Francis I. have now murdered his wife Queen Caroline after a | |show trial. After the execution Caroline's head was paraded through | |the streets of London. The suppressed English people reacted with a shock; | |however, some were forced to cheer due to brutality by the terrorists. Our | |beloved king Louis LXXIV. took the bestialities in London as a reason to | |declare that "no anarchist will survive the massive attacks France will | |make in the next year." Since the king Himself is the nearest surviving | |relative of the former British royal family He will be crowned king of | |Great Britain as soon as the anarchists and terrorists are removed from | |the British Isles. | | | | French fleet attacks sea harbour of Liverpool | | | |Brest - The French navy command announced today that the famous first French | |fleet which successfully liberated Lisbon some years ago has been ordered to | |bring law and order to the Liverpool area. "However we noticed a slight increase in | |Russian activities and a satisfying amount of press from Edinburgh. Unluckily | |it seems that the German newspaper which already had severe difficulties in | |the past to get customers has ceased its existence; we hope the German | |government will sponsor it so that the good work can go on." Moreover the | |council has expressed its concern on the matter of direct translations of | |speeches given by the leaders of European states. "We see nothing bad in | |the printing of someone's direct words, given that they are marked as such | |and translated properly." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Fall 1903 THE PAPAL BULL 250 Lira | | "All the News That Hasn't Been Lost" | | | | 'Bull' Apologizes For Press Delay | | Rome (IPS) We here at the 'Bull' would like to apologize for the apparent | |press delay for the Fall issue. It seems that Turkish terrorists cut the | |wires between our offices and the publisher, not allowing our original | |press to get through. Since our publication deadline has already passed, | |all news articles which were originally to be carried in this issue will be | |held until the Autumn issue. We apologize once again to our readership. | |Those involved have been shot, and we are working on catching those | |responsible for the press mix-up. | ================================================================================ Date: Wed, 19 Dec 90 0:24:52 EST I made a mistake in the Summer which two people noticed this Fall - Russia's A Gal mysteriously "moved" to War in the Summer results. When I got Russia's Fall moves, I naturally assumed that A Gal-War was intended as A War H (as the rules would imply). Next time the orders I get and the records I have conflict, I will check my records first. My sincere apologies. Apologies to Italy and England as well, whose Fall orders were received on time but strategically misfiled. The recovered Italian press is now presented (the English sent no press). I will try not to do this again. We have a France/Italy draw proposal. Due to circumstances I will accept votes up to the Spring 1904 deadline. At that time, no vote received will be a vote in favour. Here are the circumstances: I have received build orders from Russia and Turkey. As some people have already left for the Christmas holidays, if I get the German and Italian adjustments before Christmas I will publish the Winter 1903 turn with a press blackout to make it fair for people who have already left. If I don't (or if people *really* want their press to go through), then the Winter deadline will be January 21 and press will be published. The earliest deadline possible to accommodate everyone for Spring 1904 is Monday 21 January 1991, or Wednesday 24 January if Winter comes late. Summer will be the next Wednesday/Monday after that, after which we will have a one-week break for the play I'll be in, so I don't get completely burnt out. After all that, we will continue at a more normal pace. Any problems? Trevor Green P.S. The press from Geneva is not my own creation - although I agree with it wholeheartedly. Crushed before the might of | |the Italian armies (who are on their way to crushing the Turks), the | |Austrians dissolved. Rumor has it that many thousands have fled to | |Rome and are now training to join the Italian Foreign Legion in the | |new Austrian Brigade of the Legion. The Pope, when asked to comment | |on the fall of these great peoples, stated, "In order to save [the | |Austrians], we were forced to...crush them." The Pope has also extended | |an offer to house the Austrian government-in-exile in Rome. | | In a related story: Despite this moral loss, the war with the | |Turkish barbarian horde continues. Many thousands of troops are being | |sent daily to Operation Mountain Shield - the codename for the defense | |of Greece from these treacherous hordes. "Greece will be a bastion of | |Italian defense, and we shall carry the day", one general was | |overheard saying, although he was not allowed to comment on further | |plans. | | | | Treaty Draft Presented to the Russians | | | | Rome (IPS) Ambassador Machavelli presented the Russian ambassador with | |a copy of a draft of a treaty which could be a turning-point in both of | |our histories. The treaty calls for the total neutrality of the Tsar | |in the Turko-Italian war (see full copy of draft below). It is hoped | |that the Russian Diet will ratify the treaty and help bring lasting | |peace to the Balkans. | | | | The Treaty: | | When in the course of history, we the people of the United | |States of Italy, in order to form the most perfect union possible, find | |it necessary to strive towards our god-given manifest destiny of | |expansion in the east, thus necessitating the timely expansion beyond | |our borders; it is the duty of all of the equally-created nations of | |the European Continent to mantain a strict neutrality so long as their | |own sovereignty is not encroached upon. | |Bearing this in mind, his Holiness, Pope Sadis I, of the Holier-than-thou | |See, proposes that our great peoples, both descended from the mighty | |stock of the Roman Empire, maintain a strict neutrality regarding the | |others' conflicts. If the Russian peoples refrain from intervening in | |the Turko-Italian war until its conclusion, we, the Italian empire, | |will refrain from aiding Russia's enemies in their conflict against the | |mighty Empire of the east. | | | | Awards Presented to Members of the ADF | | | | Rome (VD) The Pope personally presented 25 members of the Albanian | |Defence Force the highest award of the State yesterday in a ceremonious | |event in Rome. I got my Christmas presents early - early enough to be able to get 1903 done (sans press, alas). Thanks everyone for being so prompt and proving me wrong; 1903 is now over. Someone has asked if the F/I draw proposal is apropos, given that they have fewer than 18 centres combined. Absolutely! Any combination of non-eliminated powers may be voted upon for a draw (although generally only alliances that are clearly going to win, or stalemate lines that are clearly deadlocked, are actually proposed). Get your votes in with your Spring 1904 orders and press, which are due Monday 21 January 1991; a reminder will be sent around the 17th. Press that is not being published this turn due to the blackout will be retained and published in Spring 1904 unless otherwise specified.
