Mini-editorial Austria said out-survive my prediction of his death. Well, he only has one unit left now, but I guess he was right. My report of his death was as they say a slight exagerration. England and France have created a nice DMZ between the two of them (considering how they were fighting tooth and nail earlier in the game), but appearantly they don't have their act completely together in Holland! France is rushing South to prop up Italy. The only question is whether Italy and Austria will still be around when he arrives in force. Turkey has backstabbed Russia, but without coordination with Russia's other adversary Germany. Evidence: the triple bounce in Budapest. (Perhaps staying in Trieste was a backstab of Austria as well?) In any event, Turkey is now in great shape. After only 4 years he is over half way to victory. His neighbors (Italy, Russia, and Austria) are all in shambles. Meanwhile, his non-neighbors (England, France, and Germany) are involved in their own conflicts. Presumably, he has done exactly that. What this means to the eyes of the world at this time is yet unclear. However, there is an announcement placed up in London square about the execution of certain high officials of the opposing party in the House of Lords placed there early this afternoon. Could this mean a movement back to the monarchys? Rumors fly as this reporter awaits further information about his Prime Minister's intentions. London (October 12th, 1904) Tensions rose in the spirits of the opposing party today as the Prime Minister made a demand to the Queen to relinquish the Crown and Scepter and crown him King of England. In an answering speech, he addressed that all govern- ment will be controlled by the House of Lords and answerable only to the King. "This act was clearly in blatent violation of the new constitution and we won't stand for it!!!" barked William Fitzgerald of the House of Lords. He is currently the top member of the opposing party. The scepter and crown were surrendered after several gunshots were fired at Buckingham Palace later tonight. London (October 31st, 1904) Today, William Fitzgerald, the loudest voice against the King, was found, tried and executed when a band of police found him in hiding in the Tower this morning. He was riddled with bullets when he put up a resistance. It is clear now that a new era has come to our country-- that of King Matthew I. London (November 5th, 1904) This just in: The autopsy report on the body of William Fitzgerald proved that he was not killed by the police due to a resistance as was led earlier to believe. Instead, it suggested a brutal murder had taken place due to the nature of the mortal wounds. "These stains were not done as a result of police slayings they were done by a professional. Look, this type of ammunition was not used by the police. It was specially made. And look here, the bullet holes are very precise. I think that the police came here too late and a coverup was done." These were the cold, hard words that Fred Muchausen, MD had said to reporters. If this report was accurate, does the new King now have to answer to murder? Several reporters crowded around the new King in Buckingham Palace to hear his statements. We learned that the King was in complete shock and in dismay. "Alas, poor poor Fitzgerald, I knew him well..." as he sobbed in dismay. London (November 7th, 1904) The body of Fred Muchausen was found in an alley early this morning by police. He was estimated to have been stabbed over 50 times in various places in the chest and back. Before the police got to the scence, however, it looked likeit had been there for a couple of days for there were already many worms and flies about it. Lonon (November 30th, 1904) The question of the new King's intentions finally manifested itself today as the snnouncement was made that he intends to attack and re-claim the North- ern French territory. "The fool's countryside has long been open and he is playing a silly little game with the Austrian. I will therefore re-claim what was once ours!" Experts agree that these occurances were very similar to the rise of power of Richard III in 1485. In fact, many experts are now hailing him as a new "Richard". Certainly, however, many hearts are swayed to his allegiance either in fear or some binding nobility tie. Please note the moves that failed. You have a lot of nerve trying to sway Germany against me by telling him how I am going to have to attack him soon and then you yourself ask him to support you into Norway all the while telling Russia that you would like to keep your relationship on a postitive note. GET REAL! I still have a lot of work yet in order to get rid of the Russians due to his incredibly ingenious move last time. He is now fortifying his position in Turkey (something that I am not extremely well prepared to deal with.) Yes, I will eventually eradicate him from the board (My goal all game has been to get rid of the Russians and the Turks since they are the ones who attacked me in the first place!) However, I expect that this will take at least two years during which time the Italians and Germans will have plenty of time to strengthen themselves. In response to your question of who I am going after next, I was thinking about you! :-) A-I,G: Germany is right. Our agreement was for a non-agression pact and I am guilty of trying to make it into something more. I thought that it was important for all of us to try and stay as equally powerful as possible. I also know that several times I did not move to the Aegean when I could have (but wasn't sure ahead of time) and that that would have helped us immensly. I tried several times to convince the Germans to help the Italians but he had other problems to deal with. I'm not sure where everything stands between I,G,F,E right now but France and England are both hurting and we are all growing. I urge us all to keep up the non-aggression pact as it would only serve to destroy all three of us if we started attacking each other. I still have serveral Russian units which I simply cannot ignore. The Italians still have major French forces to deal with. And, while the Germans and the English seem to have made peace, if the the Germans decided to exert their influence elsewhere, they would surely be leaving themselves open to attack. Please don't let the wagging English tongue betray you!!! A-I: I'm attacking Greece with only one unit this turn. I'm really not sure what the Turks are going to do but I can't spare the units to garuntee that I won't take Greece. If I should take it, I hope you will be able to manage against the French. Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help. A-F: I don't know that I really know that I have anything important to say right now other than you should just surrender and let the Italians have some fun. A-R: That was a fine set of moves pulled last turn. I'm not so sure that I would have retreated to Warsaw if I had been in your shoes, but it was still a nice set of moves. A-T: I'm not at all happy with your move to the Aegean. I guess it's your time!!! A-G: How about some comment on your future plans now? The French are pretty weak and so are the English!!! England -> Germany: OK. I see you took Sweden, so I went after Nry like I said I would. I don't know what the heck Russia did, but I hope you covered Kiel and Berlin just in case. I also hope that we can begin to cooperate. It is up to you... I would be indebted to you. My goal is just to survive, so I'll try to help you wherever I can. I'm looking to your moves and press of this turn to get your response to my press of last time. If you did support me into Nry, thanks, and I look forward to more cooperation between our countries. I am not after more supply centers. I'll just try to contain Austria in Scandinavia. Watch out for a Russian kamikaze attack. He seems to be taking out as many people as he can on his way down. If, however, you still want to kill me, oh well. I'm surprised that I've hung in here this long. Can't say that I didn't put up a fight :) But I ask you to please spare me. What are your feelings on the subject? England -> France: I apologize for referring to Belgium a couple of turns ago. To be honest, I wrote my press without referring to the map, so I didn't see that it was totally impossible for you to do this. Besides, I shouldn't have been stirring up French-German tensions. Again, I apologize and will try to be more realistic in the future. In particular, I'll pay attention to what the hell is going on :) Your press last time suggests that you might build a fleet in Brest and help Germany wipe me out. I don't care if you build a fleet in Brest, but I hope you won't use it to nail my coffin the rest of the way shut. Let's see how he reacts to my acceptance of his peace. If he is willing to go along, let's all three work together against what might head our way. However, if he's still out to finish me off, I guess you might as well help him. I don't know what I did wrong in this game, but I sure didn't expect all of this... Sorry if I upset you. France -> Europe: The world was shocked, amazed and perhaps even alarmed as Napoleon returned from exile at St. Helena to lead France in her desperate hour of need. "Bah", the formerly-long-dead Napoleon was heard to say, "zee Italians n'est pas une probleme. Zee French have always beaten zee Italians, and we always will." Napoleon, who led France to empire and ruin in the great wars of the last century, is expected to cause endless trouble for all powers. Analysts note that it extremely likely that he will once again attempt to rule the world. France -> Italy: So. It's war, is it? Well, we shall defend ourselves along the usual lines. However, it would please me greatly if you would agree to a ceasefire, followed by disengagement. Gulf of Lyon and Western Med can become a neutral zone. We have no territorial ambitions in the Med. You may signal your acceptance of a ceasfire/armistice by pulling back. French units will continue to defend themselves. There may never be another time when it will be easier to disentangle our forces then now. The choice, my friend, is yours. France -> Germany: Hi. I thank you for your support in the long war against Italy, and I hope that I can continue to count on you. I might suggest that your armies might serve a useful purpose in the south...a German army in Tyrolia might serve to persuade Italy to 'assist' you in the dismantling of the Austrian menace. However, whatever you decide, I shall remain your ally (well, unless you decide to take Paris...) France -> England: Best of luck in Scandanavia. Please stay out of the EC (but I didn't need to tell you that, did I?). France -> Turkey: Hi. You would appear to be in the process of being crushed under the heel of Austrian power. Our condolences. France -> Austria: Monsieur (or Madam), you are a menace. I hope that Germany and Italy take advantage of the change in French leadership to give you a fight. And of course, congratulations on your success so far. It's just my job to see that it doesn't continue! France -> Russia: (see France -> Turkey) Germany->Austria: I think the game is nearing a turning point, now that both Russia and Turkey are essentially defunct and Russia's lack of support has forced me into a peace me my arch-enemy. At this point you can attack either Italy or me. Despite Italy's claims, I have not attacked you or shown any signs of doing so. I hope and expect that our alliance (or, at least, non-agression pact) will endure. Germany->England: I supported you into Norway. I certainly hope you didn't attack Holland. Assuming not, here's the deal: 1) we declare the North Sea a demiliterized zone (ok, that sounds pretty drastic, but I may need to free up my armies. I will be as exposed as you.) 2) I limit myself to one fleet bordering the North Sea. Unless I get permission. Or something like that. You may have to get rid of one of my fleets (like I did for France). 3) I build an army. 4) You should probably build an army too. Use your discetion. If Austria makes _any_ theatening moves toward me, definately build an army. If I do end up in a war with Austria, you put it in St.Pete (I'll give you some support). Anyway, we'll work it out. Germany->France: I'm starting to drool whenever I cast my I in your direction:) I think I'm going to war soon, but a don't think the target will be you. At this point Italy is the most likely, so try not to lose any more centers if you can help it :) Germany->Turkey: Good luck there regaining a supply center from the evil imperialist Russia empire. I know how it is -- he sa's he wants to help you but he's lying through his teeth. Anyway, if I go to war with Austria (mind you, everybody, I don't _want_ to be in a war with the largest country on the board, it's just that he has to attack an ally soon and it may well be me) any chance you might insurrect against him? Guess not. Germany->Russia: No comments to you, although I suppose you had some for me. I'll respond to them next press. Germany->Italy: Is our new GM keeping the press in order? If so, you'll notice that I consider you pretty important (my usual order of importance is 1st-last-2nd-3rd...). We don't have to go to war. I doubt I'll hear too much from you this turn, but anything I hear in the spring I will take under _most_ serious consideration. I -> F I flipped a coin to decide, wut did u do? I -> A No more Russia, wuts next on your list? Besides cleaning up Russia resistance in the Turkish penisula. Though I hope that Turkey has knocked him out of Constantinople. Are you gonna build another fleet? I suggest armies and lots of them. Especially considering all the talk of the new FGE alliance. I -> G Thos units in Munich,Holland,Belgium have not moved for a long time. I think that the rumors of a gas crisis in Germany are true. I -> R You didnt need those home centers anyway, it is not like you were gonna be building anything. I -> T Taking Greece would be one thing but if you have moved to the Ionian I hope you refrain from bragain hunting in your Italian pals home centers (or Tun). Maybe you could talk AH into letting one of your fleets live to come and help me versus the French. I -> E The remaining Wicked Witch is gonna get another build, everyone better watch out! I -> All Yeah, this press is pretty lame. But then it matches my playing in this game. Russia -> All - Austria's going to stomp you all! It's good to be back! A-E: I'm hurt. I would've at least thought that we could keep the dialogs going. A-G,I: Just so both of you know. I made a non-aggression pact with both of you for the entire game and I have no intention of violating it until on my own initiative. I will not attack either one of you unless you attack me or the other member of the alliance first. However, I am a little nervous about how you guys are feeling right now. I have decided to take on the challenge of taking French soil (and maybe even English soil) to get my requisite 18 supply centers. As I mentioned before, I have no intention of taking either German or Italian soil unless I am provoked to do it. I would like to leave this game known as a person that keeps his word. A-F: Well, I'm glad to that Napoleon has a little bit of spunk left in him after all of these years. You're next on my hit list! I guess that puts you in the top 10! :-) A-T: I thought about supporting you into Constantinople and now it's been so long that I can't remember why I didn't. I would like to congratulate you on a game well played. Unfortunately, the game just didn't go your way. Turkey is a tough country to play. I was also fortunate to be part of the three-way alliance in the center of the board. If it hadn't been for that, I would never have been able to do what I did. A-R: What I said to Italy applies to you too! You played a good game and came into the game in a somewhat disadvantaged position. If it hadn't been for my Non-aggression pact with Germany and Italy I woul d have accepted your offer to leave each other alone. However, I wasn't about to destroy an alliance like that. Your move into Turkish lands was a smooth move and certainly will make you the second person eliminated from the game instead of the first. England -> Austria: Eat my shorts, dude! You think you'll attack me?! NUTS! I am going to do everything I can to stop your steamroller. England -> Germany: I don't want to encourage you to attack Austria, but I think we better take St.P quickly. When Austria gets through with Russia and Turkey, he'll have 14 centers. He can then attack Italy and Tunis to get the last four that he needs to win. If we take St.P, it forces Austria to need one of Spa, Mar or Por to win. And together, France, Germany and England can hold off the Austrians, regardless of what Italy does. Italy is toast in my opinion. I agree to demilitarizing the North Sea. However, I need to be there right at the moment in order to get my army across and get on with the Scandinavian offensive. As you can tell by my move of the Army to Yor, my next move with F Nth Sea will be to convoy the army to Nry with support from Nwg. F Bar will either join in the support or cut support by pinging St.P. This will put me in good position to take St.P soon. I may need a little help should Austria get into Finland, but this is up to you. I don't want to force you into a war with Austria. But if he does attack you, you can hold onto Ber and Mun easily. I'll try to help convert one of your fleets to an army. Just name the time and place. It looks like the Nth Sea is best, but I'll have to trust that you'll disband instead of retreating into an open supply center of mine. I'm crazy enough to do this, but it makes me a little edgy. However, when I ally, I ally. Bygones are bygones. France may need support of Mar from an army of yours. Basically, the three of us can stalemate Austria and ensure our own survival. This will end the game in a four way draw. I'm for it if you guys are. The alternative is simply an Austrian win. Anyway, France can keep Austria from Spa, Por and Mar - but may need a unit or two of help. Austria is still far enough away that we can work out the details later. England -> France: (please see comments above to Germany) I am concentrating on Scandinavia. If you need any help, let me know. I am thinking of a huge stalemate line to contain Austria. If you need a fleet to help hold it, just drop me a note. I was thinking that a F in the North Atl could help hold the Med exit. Since Austria is still far enough away, and I have other stuff to do at the moment, consider this just pre-planning. I have no intention of moving anything in your direction unless you ask for the help. As I see it, we are all in this together. The good news is that Italy will soon evaporate as Austria hits him from behind. France -> Italy: Well, I se you negelected to pull back. However, by eliminating you unit "behind the lines"" in Portugal, I've made it easier then ever for us to disengage. I'm sure that you noticed that Austria got 3 builds this Winter. Once again, I beg. I plead. I offer.: Pull back and face Austria, before she has eliminated Turkey and Russia. You are the only power that can stop Austria from winning. I will assist you in every way possible..but you have to do it *NOW*. France -> Germany: As I mentioned to Italy, it is now or never to form a coalition against Austria. What do you say? By the way, I asssume your army in Belgium is there for purely defensive purposes. It would make me happier is you kept it in Holand; it would probably be more useful there, too. After all, I *do* have my hands full with Italy. France -> Turkey and Russia: I strongly suggest that you two settle your differences and present a united front against Austria. Help may arrive, but it will be too late if you persist in hacking each other to pieces. Killing the fleet in Bul would be a good start... France -> Europe Let the cleverness of the Emperor Napoleon not go unappreciated: note that the destruction of the Italian Fleet in Portugal prevented the enemy from disbanding his utterly worthless army in North Africa. Vive l'Empereur! Vive la France! Germany->England: Well, I've pretty much left my _ss out in the open on this turn, but with the only player I felt I could _really_ trust (perhaps because s/he couldn't attack me) gone, I better get a good ally. Anyway, assuming you didn't walk into one of the three supply centers I left open for you: If you're in the North sea, move out (not into any of those three center:) ASAP. It's crucial that you get an army in St.Pete - I'll support you as soon as one can attack (with GoB; maybe this Fall? support from there and Barents (or Norway) should do it). As for moving fleets south: use you own discretion. If it looks like Italy will join us and provide _significant_ help, you might want to take out France. If not (as I suspect) maybe you can give France a hand. Germany->Italy: I realize this you are probably laughing wildly at the thought of helping _me_ after so many years of me failing to help you, but I feel I have to ask anyway. There's a good chance you just lost Spain without anything to show for it; if that's the case you won't ever take France (unless England helps, which won't happen unless either he just screwed me (in which case none of this matters) or you join us). Note that I didn't attack Tyrolia. And consider: do you want to spend the rest of the game wallowing in a stalemate until Austia wins, or do you want to take control (like I just have) and attempt to restore the balance of power in Europe? Germany->France: Welcome to Passchendaele. As you may have gathered, I've been on reasonably good terms with your predessesor. I tried to stay out of the Franco-Italian War, although at one point I disbanded a French army (by request, so s/he could build a fleet.) I'd like to stay on good terms with you. Germany->Russia: Thanks for pulling out of the North; I was worried that I might have sufficiently offended you that you'd decide to be a nuisance. I wish you the best; hopefully you can work with Turkey and tie up some Austrian units. Germany->Turkey: Hopefully you can work with Turkey and tie up some Austrian units. Germany->Austria-Hungary: I hate to say it, but I think this is war. I don't know what you did this turn, but you would have attacked me within the year anyway. Still, our non-aggression pact was good while it lasted. I suppose it's possible we could still back down at this point, but unlikely. May the best country win. I -> AH Now u have a mighty armada to wipe out the last minueto of resistance in Turkey... I don't think that third fleet was a good idea. Methinks you should have built an army and sprung on Germany with all that you is. I think that this was/is your path to victory. For even if you capture every center I own u will just doom yourself to a stalemate if u don't cross the line. I -> R,T The house burns down about them... will they continue to fight? I -> G Get France! I -> E Get France! I -> F uh... I -> All Sorry for the delay but being a Vax amateur manager is not as ez as Dec wude hav u beleve. GM to all: Again, I find myself in the position of apologizing for delays in the game. Some of the delays have not been of my causing...we have had some continuing computer problems here at Georgia Tech, and someone wiped out the PC version of Diplomacy I was running this game on...I had to recreate the game from paper files and some old mail messages. Other delays have been my fault, including being out of town somewhat suddenly for several days. When I signed up to take this game over, I made the implicit promise to do better than the previous person...and I intend to keep this promise. We've come to a final solution to computer problems, I have a secure method of adjudicating this game, with better-maintained backups, and several time-consuming affairs in my life have been winding down...so I will not be pressed for time. At any rate, this will be the last time we have a delay of this magnitude. If we can get that Italian retreat in ASAP, I can have the result of it back to you all. Since Thanksgiving is this week, I propose that the orders for Fall, 1906 be due Wednesday, November 28, no later than 11pm EST. As per the above paragraph, I assure quick adjudication for now on... so the deadlines are going to start being more meaningful that they have been as of late. I have made moves will hopefully allow us to stand off if you continue to move against me and which will not be threatening to you if you decide to pull back (which I hope that you do!) I will not hold anything against you if you do withdraw at this time. However, I cannot promise anything about my reactions if you continue in this vain. I have seen the way the English have swagged their tounges at you trying to convince you to change your attention span so I blame him, not you! Please reconsider your intentions and withdraw. Italy: I hope that you are not going to take the path of decline that the Germans have apparently taken. I still intend to stick to the non-aggression pact. I would, however, like to ask passage the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Western Med to the Mid-Atlantic Ocean if you would be so kind? France: Seeing as how the English (Not to mention the Germans) are intending to be somewhat more of a pain than you are, I have put you on the back burner. Never fear though, I shall return for you if you are still around when I finish with them. Turkey: Well, if you supported the Russians in Constantinople this turn then you will die before he does. If not, then you will live longer! Russia: Read what I wrote to the Turks! It might be important to you! England: Just get off of the mainland and stay off or I just might come after you! England -> France: Hello again! Just want to comment on some of last season's press: I have no intention of starting a war between the English and French, and I hope that you feel the same way. Your predecessor and I got along fairly well, but each of us were kind of busy with our own problems in the early stages of the game ( Germany and I were battling it out, and you had your hands full with Italy ). So England and France basically left each other alone. I will concentrate on Austria in Scandinavia, and I hope that you'll do what you can to stop him in the south. Should Italy make peace with you, I hope that you'll help him against Austria. If you wind up with no one to fight, please don't come my way. The current Russia-Turkey situation is a good example of what happens when two countries continue to fight each other in the face of a much stronger common enemy. Anyway, I don't want to repeat that history. I think we have a strong F/G/E alliance and can stop the Austrians. If Italy wants to help, fine. Otherwise continue pushing him backwards as Austria gets him from behind. England -> Germany: Hello! From your last moves, I see that you are willing to trust me, and I am willing to uphold that trust. We (F/G/E) are going to be very good allies. Never thought I'd see that in this game! I convoyed the army across this turn, and took a poke at StP. If I got StP, I'd like to build another army in London, convoy it to Nry with the Nth Sea fleet in the spring, and then move the Nth Sea fleet out to Yorkshire in the fall. The army currently in Nry will move out to Finland in the spring regardless of what happened in StP this fall. If I didn't get StP this fall, I'll move the Nth Sea fleet back in the spring. I know that fleet makes you edgy and I will send it back to the Isles. It took a lot of time and effort to see us cooperate in this game, and I'm not about to screw it up now. I consider France, Germany and England to be mutually allied. I think this is the best course to ensure our survival. England -> Austria: Would you vote for a seven-way draw now before anyone gets eliminated? England -> Italy: Please make peace with France and turn your attention to your exposed back, before it is too late... If Austria is going to attack you as he claims he will, he's going to have to sail by (read: GO THROUGH) you to get to him! France to Europe - Happy holidays! no press this turn.. -Napoleon Germany->All: Due a tragic set of circumstance -- well not really tragic, but unfortunate -- I will soon be losing my email access, and hence this should be my last turn (unless Matt wants we to stick around another week) (actually it's mainly just unfortunate 'cause I'm losing my email access). I'll write a brief for my successor so hopefully there's some continuity. I've enjoyed the game. Good luck everyone. Germany-> England: You know the plan -- get an army in there and I (or someone) will support it. Germany-> Everyone else: Ditto from last turn. Sorry for the brevity, but I'm sorta rushed. I -> A, Welp, if I don't get into the MAO this move then it looks like I never will. I know I could have supported with Naf instead but I figured a little gambling was warrented. In theory England's comments about my being toast were true, if he had went to the ECh to support France in the MAO this turn. But thanks to his devotion to the Northern front I will get into the MAO... France and England's only saving grace is that they will both get a build this turn. I don't believe that you will attack me, especially since Germany has provided you with such a nice invitation. One of us needs to break the stalemate line, in order to change the outcome of the game from the big draw that it is leaning towards. I hope my support into Tyl was useful. If you manage to get the upper hand in the Turkish peninsula, capturing Constantinople for example, then I think you should move your fleet into the Tyr Sea next Spring to come and help me try and break thru them French. Though if I don't get into the MAO now then it won't matter much... stalmate. I -> F, You offer is tempting, this excercise in diplomacy tactics bored even me a little. But England's gauntlet of beligerance has made my decision this turn. Don't worry though, AH is far from winning. Crossing the stalemate line is much more difficult thatn it looks, it is possible that you could still hold him off even if I SUICIDALLY tried to give him the game. (No, I don't think I have been suicidal yet.) I -> E, I am willing to accept your surrender and make you my puppet country. I -> G, Your not entering Tyrolia was a nice gesture, thanks. I -> RT, AH is playing strange with respect 2 u 2. I think you will be able to hold on for quite awhile if you stick together. But remember Turkey that Russia was the one that backstabbd you in the first place allowing the AH steamroller to get both of u. GM -> Austria: Can you hurry up and take Russia or Turkey out? I've run out of red army units for you, and would like to use another color without risk of confusion. :-) GM -> All: Let's try to get those retreats in by Monday, no later than 11pm EST. As soon as those are in, we can do builds/disbands...I would like to see those in no later than 11pm Wednesday...they shouldn't be too difficult this time around. We have a seven-way draw proposal put forth by England; please send in your vote on that. The prevailing opinion here in Geneva is that it is a bit early for a draw of that nature, but it's up to you. There shouldn't be any signifigant delay in the game due to replacing the German player; with the shortage of standby players, we may be getting the previous player of France to take Germany's spot. He left due to some technical problems with his computer, which have been resolved. He has been receiving game reports since he left, so he would be able to take over immediately. You've been playing a great game, Germany, and it's going to be a shame to lose you.
