I am now just about to leave for a holiday, returning on the 18th of december; I have arranged for a temporary GM to handle the game for a couple of weeks (using my account, so there will be no mail problems). Trevor Green Date: Fri, 30 Nov 90 6:53:42 EST These results are late partly due to my fault - I haven't been near a terminal in 2 days - and partly due to people being late with their orders. DEADLINE FOR SUMMER 1903 IS MONDAY 3 DECEMBER 1990. Please inform me of your holiday plans this Christmas so we can keep the game going as quickly as possible. I intend to get 1903 done before Christmas if it kills me. Cheers, Trevor Green P.S. Moreover he announced | |a big farewell party to the German troops in Munich and the Ruhr area. "We | |will wave them goodbye and return to Marseilles in fall, so that the army | |free zone consisting of Burgundy, Munich and the Ruhr area will finally be | |established in winter." Asked about his comrades in the Picardy he said | |that "these brave soldiers are burning to help the English king; however, it | |all depends on tactics." | | | | French Mediterranean Fleet returns to sea | | | |Barcelona - "I cannot stand this bull-killing any longer!" admiral Jacques | |d'Avignon, commander of the third French fleet, told our reporter last week | |before he ordered his fleet back to exercises in the Gulf of Lyon. "Anyway | |it's a pity we didn't participate in the Franco-Italian Friendship Day. We | |should have met our friends at sea," he said. "This fall we will stay on | |duty hoping for another celebration of the friendship between our great | |nations! Of course we will fully respect the Italian sea area, e.g. the | |Tyrrhenian Sea." | | | | German ambassador meets the French press | | | |Paris - Karl-Heinz von Reschneg (some of these German names, they sound | |better when read backwards...), the German ambassador in France, gave a | |press conference last week. "I spoke with your great King and we fully | |agreed that the great German-French friendship will continue. Our great | |army in Munich is leaving immediately; the same applies for our great army | |in the Ruhr area. King Louis LXXIV. warned me on the British fleet in the | |North sea that could attack Denmark, but our great Kaiser has thought | |about all of that - I hope." | | | | English anarchists plan to murder the new king | | | |London - Last week plans of the terrorist groups that call themselves | |'British government' were revealed that consist of a massive attack of | |all forces on London to kill the last survivors of the British royal | |family including king Francis I. and his wife Queen Caroline, daughter of our | |beloved king Louis LXXIV. The French fleet currently cruising the shores | |of southeast England has been ordered to resist as long as possible | |until help from France arrives. "We will fight to our last grenade!" | |admiral Gaulois Panpan, commander of the second French fleet, announced. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | EXTRA!!! PAPACY DECLARES WAR ON TURKEY | | | | Suprise Attack Ends Austrian Domination of Balkans | | Tirane (IPS) At 14:05, Papal Standard Time, joint forces of Julius | |Ceaser's Marines and the Albanian Defense Corp stormed Austrian positions | |in Greece, and by nightfall most organized resistance had ended. Italian | |casulties were light, but all sectors of the front have not reported in so | |far. Sporadic fighting carries on into the night, but it is expected that | |the Austrians will capitulate at any time. [Heck, they ran away.! -ed.] | |he papacy issued a statement shortly after the attack which indicated | |Italian commitment to stay in the region for as long as possible. | | | | Holy War Proclaimed, Italy at War With Turks | | Vatican (VD) Shortly after the invasion of Greece, the Papacy issued a | |formal declaration of war to be delivered to the Sultan in Constantinople. | |In a press conference shortly thereafter, His Holiness, Pope Sadis I, made | |the following speech: | | "In the past two years, we have had to endure the horribe facade of peace | |in the eastern Mediterranean region while the Turkish menace continued ever | |steadily to build her naval power. There can be only on naval power in the | |region, and, with God on our side, we intend to be that naval power. Time | |and time again, the Turkish peoples have threatened not only our existence, | |but the existence of her neighbors. True peace can only be acheived after | |tha Turks are annihilated. We call upon all good peaceloving Christian | |peoples to rise up against the infidel. Even as I speak, envoys are | |being sent to the Moscow government and church to come to agreement on | |the final partition of Turkey. The Turks will fall, and God will be | |victorious." | | | | Ambassador Sent to Russia on Goodwill Mission | | Vatican (VD) An ambassador of the Papacy left for Moscow today on a | |mission that Pope Sadis I hopes will be the final step in cementing | |together a Russo-Italian alliance. The alliance is still pending Russian | |approval, but it is hoped that this gesture of friendship will last | |eternally and form a new bond, not only between the two nations, but | |between our peoples as well. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Free German Press -- Circulation decreasing. Great Peoples of France, I | |am personally sending troops to prevent a threat. I do not know if | |this vill be enough to stop them though. I must go now and see to the Var effort." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Sofia (UPI): "After two years of intense negotiation, Turko-Italian joint | |military exercises went into full swing this month as armed security forces | |crossed into Serbia, while, farther south, the Ottoman First Fleet sailed into| |Athens for joint maneuvers near the ancient battlesite at Actium. Although it| |has been a year since the former Turkish ambassador was brutally assassinated | |by Thracian mercenaries, all reciprocal action was ground to a halt due to a | |diplomatic logjam with Serbia. But, now, with a firm alliance between the two| |great religions of Islam and Catholicism, the perception that Serbia is acting| |as a Habsburg crony, and the declaration of war by the Pope on the crumbling | |Austro-Hungarian empire, Turkish security forces, with support from an Italian| |landing party in Albania, will finally root out the vicious murderers while at| |the same time securing the holy city of Belgrade for the Italians. The Tsar | |has also been encouraged to participate." | ================================================================================ Date: Mon, 3 Dec 90 11:10:49 EST Finally I'm getting something out on time! Our newly-elected president George McBrusk made this announcement in a nationwide broadcast yesterday. In his speech, he declared his friendship with the English people and promised them all support they could give to the occupied country. NEW LIQUOUR BECOMES FASHON McBrusk, who comes from the Highlands, celebrated the change of capital and the death of the last members of the Royal family with a bottle of the finest whisky available, a liquour which has become increasingly popular after the French betrayal of our nation. END OF TERROR After London was conquered by our navy, some small terrorist groups have held London hostage. The police has reported several explosions without any natural explanation, and maniacs are shooting people in the street. After a razzia in the former French embassy, the Revolutionary Police found plans and names of members of these groups. These persons have been arrested and executed. THE KING IS DEAD During the riots, Buckingham Palace burned down, and during that fire the King died. The body was then found by people looting the ruins; they mutilated the body and threw it in the Thames. During their retreat, the French fleet picked up the body. His wife and cousin was arrested and is now imprisoned in the Tower. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ St. Petersburg -- The Czar is deeply worried about his Turkish ally having been attacked by the Austrian navy. He has informed the Sultan that the Russian fleet in Rumania will support the Turkish army in Constantinople to Bulgaria, unless his ally wishes to follow another plan. The Czar regrets the conflict between Italy and Turkey, but he has informed Italy that Russia is interested in any Italian help he can get in the campaign against Germany. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Summer 1903 THE PAPAL BULL 250 Lira "All the Propaganda we deem fit to print" TURKS SMASHED ON ALL FRONTS!! Rome (IPS) The Turkish Empire was smashed on all fronts by a series of attacks which will, hopefully, lead to the dissection of this corrupt empire by the peace-loving peoples of Italy and Russia. The deluge started with the suprise attack of Greece by the heroic forces of the Albanian Defence Force an Julius Ceaser's Marines. The Austrian resistance was light, and not without reason, for the Austrians had simultaneously launched a suprise counter-attack on their age-old oppressors, the Turks. The Empire, with its defences in a state of decay, crumbled before the onslaught in Bulgaria and were overwhelmed within days. Unfortunately these brave Austrians will have to be dealt with in the final partition of Turkey. Apostle Akkbar Burned at Stake as Heretic Vatican (VD) The person who had claimed to be the 'long lost' Apostle Akkbar was burned at the stake for his fraudulent works purporting the holiness of Serbia. All investigation into the matter has shown that this was a plot cooked up by the Turks to divert our attention from the one, the true Holy Land. As a counter-measure to this propaganda, the impostor was burned at the stake. All involved had a wonderful time telling stories and roasting marshmallows. Crusade Called For Athens (APS) Pope Sadis I, while on a tour of the recently captured city of Athens, held a press conference in which he called for a 9th Crusade against the infidel Turks and all they stand for. "We will succeed where our predecessors failed: we will forge a new empire in the Holy Land, and the land shall be washed with infidel blood. We shall win!", declared the Pope when asked about his goals. He also stated that it is of utmost importance to re-name the Eastern Mediterannean Sea the "Holy See". This, he revealed, will be Admirial JC's next task. At the conclusion of the conference, the applause continued for hours. Ambassador in Moscow to Consult With Patriarch, Military, and Tsar Moscow (APS) Our Moscow bureau of the 'Bull' has reported that Ambassador Machiavelli de Medici is scheduled to meet with various branches of the Russian leadership tomorrow in order to secure a firm alliance and joint planning with the Military and Church. He stated: "It is in the utmost interest of both of our countries to work together to smash the infidel Turks and drive the devil-worshipping horde from the face of this God-given earth of ours. If the kind and benevolent Russians would only do so much as to attack the Turks, we would be in their debt." Hopefully, the meetings will produce some results. Austrians Awarded Second Annual Vatican Peace Prize Trieste (APS) The Austrians, in abstentia, were awarded the second annual Vatican Peace Prize for their effort to pacify the Turkish threat in Bulgaria. In light of this award, the Pope has declared his willingness to host the Austrian government in exile in Rome. In a public statement, he said, "We hope the Austrians forgive us for our actions. We didn't mean to crush them - they were just in our way to the greater evil of the infidel hordes." Vatican Recognizes French as Legitimate English Government Vatican (VD) Pope Sadis I today announced his recognition of the French installed regime, unfortunately deposed by an untimely counter-attack, as the legitimate government of the British Isles. Despite the setbacks earlier in the year, we are sure that the French will continue to make every effort to install the real government, and we continue to support the legitimate government in exile. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Summer 1903 LE PARISIEN Terrorists conquer London! Francis I. killed Wales - As expected, the terrorist groups that still control parts of Great Britain concentrated their power on an attack to London this spring. A bomb killed king Francis I. as he tried to leave London on board of a ship of the second French fleet. Admiral Gaulois Panpan, whose fleet has heroically tried to defend the King, commented "that this is too bad; just when he jumped from his horse to enter our ship some bastard blew him up with a bomb." The French fleet was forced to retreat to Wales, however Panpan was heard to say "we will return there soon!" New French army shoes proved valuable Burgundy - "These shoes are better than anything I've ever marched in!" general Yves Cava declared after the successful testing his army did in spring. "I hope that every French soldier gets them as soon as possible. We will show their enormous advantages in Fall when my army will return to winter camp in the Marseilles area." Cava also expressed his friendly feelings to "my dear German comrades with whom we met recently and who are now on their important mission in the east." King Louis LXXIV. in Rome - Meets Pope Sadis I. Paris - Yesterday our beloved King returned from a visit of Italy where he met several leading people including Pope Sadis I. with whom he had a 6 hour private audience. "We talked about European politics and agreed that catholicism must be spread around, especially in atheistic countries like Turkey and Great Britain. Moreover both of us shared the opinion that our peace as neighbours should continue indefinitely," king Louis said. Russian ambassador still without connection to the Czar Paris - Pierre Cestbon, the French foreign minister, expressed his deep regrets upon the fact that no communication with the Czar could be established in the last years. "Neither can the Russian ambassador here reach home nor can we get in touch with our ambassador in St. Petersburg. It's really a pity since we even do not get any Russian newspapers. However maybe the Russians read French newspapers and take notice of the fact that France is a friend of Germany and would not like to see any Russian aggression against German territory. Our German friends surely intend no aggressions and will stay within their borders. Anyway Russia should help in the Christianisation of Turkey." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Geneva) The European press council has warned Russia that further suppression of its newspapers will bring severe consequences. "Press is important and makes people happy," the board of directors commented. "Having no press is not acceptable. Luckily most other European states have understood this, e.g. France, Germany, Italy and Turkey." ================================================================================ Publisher comments: Sweet's Cosy Korner: From: IN%"prb%chinet.chi.il.us@gatech" To: daybell@aludra.usc.edu, pl436000@brownvm.BITNET, ken@milton.u.washington.edu, J_ORegan@csvax1.ucc.ie, pinkse@vax.lse.ac.uk, sinhaa@mcmaster.BITNET, cwekx@KUB.NL Date: Wed, 21 Nov 90 20:51:19 CST I am waiting for Fall 1901 orders from Turkey. -- "Never look back; something might be gaining on you." We play standard Diplomacy, no strange variations. However, from past experience we can confidently predict that the lying and back- stabbing will begin in the first round, and the (attempted?) cheating and hacking shortly afterwords. If you're an advanced player with good network connections and who doesn't mind an exceptionally dirty game (with lots of fascinating and scurrilous press), send your name in! We'll collect 7 names plus a bunch of spares for replacements (hopefully not needed) and spectators. It would be preferred if players from the same site (or any who see each other regularly in person) entered as a team, so we all have to contend with the same level of network difficulties. Send your name to STEVEB@TRIUMFER (ERICH::STEVEB on HEPnet). Pass this message on to other people who may be interested and meet the qualifications. -Steve Bougerolle P.S. Apologies to those of you who attempted to leave the Diplomacy list but are getting this message anyway... If you are interested in joining the fun here on Electronic Protocol, send mail to Eric_S_Klien@cup.portal.com including your name, address, phone, e-mail address, and country preference list. He will add you to the waiting list and get you into a game as soon as possible. ***--*--*------------------Constantijn Wekx----------------------------------+ ** * *KUB-University Phone: (+31) 13 441541 Bitnet: cwekx@htikub5 | * * * Tilburg-Nederland UUCP: ...!mcvax!kubix!mad-2 Surfnet: kubvx1::cwekx | +-*--*-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ Up
