Please check the unit locations and supply center ownership to make sure I didn't screw up. I hope to maintain the two deadlines a week schedule of your previous GM; therefore, the Winter 1905 builds will be due on THURSDAY APRIL 18. What sort of press did you have before? Paris - No results about the negotiations between French and Russian diplomats about a durable peace between the two super powers could be achieved yet. A speaker of the French foreign ministry said that "everything is possible; Russia might provoke a war on Scandinavia by building a fleet in St. Petersburg, or we might come to a peaceful solution, e.g. by removing crazy Wolly-Willi of Germany in cooperation. It all depends on the czar." King Louis calls German citizens to remove the Kaiser Paris - Our beloved king Louis LXXIV. addressed all "peace- and french- loving German citizens" in a speech he gave yesterday at the "Deutsch- Franzoesischer Freundschaftsclub". Excerpts from his speech follow: "Dear German brethren! You are ruled by a mad, gay, sick and ill emperor! His ruling lead you into a war with us, your peaceful neighbours of the west; while letting the aggression from the east unpunished. We, the French and British people, ask you to join the christian movement against Asian terror! Remove your Kaiser, find a new and better one, e.g. Professor von Nehmen or Countess von Ekle. The French people ask for no more than Belgium which has been French protectorate for years, if your country makes peace with France again." Reporters noted that at least two sentences of the speech did not end with an exclamation mark, and it was reasoned that this shows the honest will of King Louis to come to peace with Germany again. Genoa harbour to become third greatest in world Genoa - The fortification and expansion of the Genoa harbour are going on now. "It will be a real great thing once it is finished" the Genoa mayor said, "and we are really thankful to our French friends for their support." The work is expected to take at least one more year to be finished. Minor accidents, e.g. a tanker exploding and loosing 120,000 tons of oil right in front of the harbour are considered insignificant for the success of the project. "In some sense, this make everything much better: the oil is expected to spread all over the western Med thus making ship operations much easier - the sea is much calmer with oil on it, you know. Moreover, there won't be all that stupid animals anymore in the sea which hinder our movements." a speaker said. <<diplomacy unrelated note: this is BLACK HUMOR>> ============================================================================== Geneva (VIP) - You know who I am, and why I am writing this. Russia is going to go for the three-way with Italy and France. The only chance we have is to strike first. Turkey can disband F SMY and waltz into SEV. Germany can build A BER, and slip into WAR. Italy will trade BUL for RUM. France will trade DEN for BEL. Certain death is the other choice. We will never have another chance. *WE MUST ACT NOW!* ============================================================================== Pardon Commits Suicide General in Charge of Lots of Stuff, Andre Pardon, today took his own life. He was heartbroken, it appears, at the news that his commander and lover, Kaiser Willhelm von Wollhiem, was HIV positive. The entire German army has been put on notice that they are in mourning. General Pardon's suicide took a strange turn at the end, that would have been humorous if not for the extreme tragedy surrounding the event. In his farewell note, Andre said that he was going to die "in a manner fitting for a general and a veterinarian." By this, he meant that he intended to ride his horse over the edge of a cliff. At the last moment, however, the horse shied, throwing his unfortunate rider to a solitary, and deadly, plummet. The moral: You can lead a horse to slaughter, but you can't make him sink. von Ekle Addresses Cheering Throngs German dissident, exile, and martyr, Ilke von Ekle, was warmly recieved by the French public. In a long-winded and passionate speech, she denounced every governmental policy of the Kaiser's that is not anti-Russian. One particularly eloquent excerpt was as follows : "What is he [the Kaiser], stupid or something? The Czar doesn't want an alliance with our people. Or how do you explain that every peace proposal which would leave the non- alliance [Russia, Turkey, and Germany] in control of Europe has been vetoed by the Czar himself? He must be killed!" It was unclear whether this last was a reference to the Kaiser or the Czar. Oddly enough, the NSL party in Berlin firmly denied that the speech had ever occurred. Since they have claimed for months that Ilke is dead, her resurfacing in France would be a major political embarrassment. They dismissed the entire event as a fabrication of InSecurity, the French secret police. Jens "Keine Sheisse" Jans has used the precarious situation of his in-party opponents to further solidify his control over the Not-So-Loyalists. Kaiser Abdicates Throne, Names Successor Kaiser Willhelm von Wollheim, on the heels of the suicide of his "one true friend", has decided to give up politics. Concurrently, he has converted to Catholicism, and announced his intention to make a pilgrimage to the Vatican, if his health holds up. His final act as Kaiser was to tap Hans "Flotte" Verwicklung, the former chief of the former German Navy, as his successor. New Kaiser Holds Press Conference Kaiser Hans Verwicklung, into order to announce the plans and policies his new regime, called a Europe-wide press conference. Delegates from the press corps of all the major powers were in attendence, and raked the new Kaiser over the coals. In contrast to his predecessor, however, "Flotte" answered all questions calmly and coherently. Some of the dialogue is reprinted here. Turkish Delegation: Do you buy into the Papist propaganda? How do you feel about the future of the Anti-Catholic Alliance? Kaiser Verwicklung: I'm glad you asked that question. I plan to continue the strategy of the ex-Kaiser Willhelm von Wollheim, namely hurting the French, but with a change in tactics. Willy did not realize the importance of naval power in military success. He blew up the single fleet under my command. I am going to put the shipyards of Kiel back into action. French Delegation: Come, now, your rusted ships can't compete with the mighty French Navy. Why not join with the King Louis LXXIV and avoid your inevitable doom? Kaiser Verwicklung: Doom? Ho-ho, let's be reasonable now. With the German military occupying a line from Munich to the Helgoland Bight, and with Russian forces lined up from Denmark to the Barents Sea, all the French bravado cannot push their armies past Belgium or their fleets past the North Sea. Rumors of the collapse of the German Empire have been greatly exaggerated. Italian Delegation: I believe my French counterpart was referring to your fate at the hands of Russian forces. Haven't you heard the speeches of Ilke von Ekle? Kaiser Verwicklung: I have heard her speak, but you notice that the only people cheering are the French. King Louie is the only one who would benefit from a Russo-German war. I am sure the Czar feels the same way. As usual, the Russian delegation was silent. The Kaiser, however, reiterated his belief that actions speak louder than words. PRESS: Autumn 1905 THE PAPAL BULL 250 Lira "All the Pope's Bull" Successful Counter-Attack Drives Turks From Europe Athens(IPS) - Admirial Julius Ceasers successful counter attack into the Aegean Sea dealt a might blow to the Turkish forces in the Mediterranean, forcing them to relinquish control of Bulgaria and causing the destruction of one of the Turkish fleets. This was also an important date because it was the first time JC has embarked upon a naval campaign without a serious mishaps. No a single Italian ship was sunk accidentally by JC. As the HPS Holy Avenger steamed back into port on the souther coast of Bulgaria, JC noted that "It is really a shame that the Turks want to play in our pond when they have a pond all to themselves [the Black Sea]. If they would just send their navies north instead of West, the world would be a safer place, and we wouldn't have to come east anymore." Apparently, the Admirial has not yet recovered from his traumatic childhood experience where his mommy took all of his play ships away from him when he was in the bathtub. Russians Warned to Heed Balkans Advances Rome(VD) - His Holiness, Pope Sadis I, sent a stern warning to the Russian armies in the Balkans waring them to heed the recent Italian advances in the south as a sign of events to come. "we will roll back the Russians just as we have rolled back the Turks", he declared, "soon [the Russians] will have nothing but their home nation left, just like the Turks." Most military experts in Rome agree that a victory over the Russians can be accomplished in a matter of years, but it will take hard fighting and a steady alliance to do so. Communique Intercepted!!! Rome(IPS) - The Papal Bull has just recieved a copy of a top secret communiqe from Pope Sadis I to the Sultan of Turkey laying down c onditions for a peace with Turkey and planing of join opperations against Russia. According to the telegram, which was obtained by 'sources high in the government', Italy would cease hostilities against Turkey if Turkey would turn her armed forces northwards against the Russians. Further, the Turks would recieve military aid from the Italians government to rebuild the Turkish empire. It is not known if the turks will accept, but we hope that they do. Papal Bull Poll of the Week This Week's Question - Are the German's Crazy, Coniving, or Silly Crazy - 74.3% Coniving - .2% Silly - 25.5% =/- .5% Margin of Error Mayor of Genoa Thanks French Genoa(IPS) - The Mayor of Genoa extended his heartfelt thanks to the peoples of France for helping make the new harbour a reality. He granted many gifts to the fleet commanders, and begged them to stay until "there was peace in Tyrolia." There was much applause. The Czar announces that he will continue to support Turkey and Germany to the best of his ability in whatever way requested. The Czar is displeased with the phony victory proposals put forth by Italy and France. The Czar's proposal for a joint R/T/G win remains unchanged. ***** Press: Istanbul (UPI): The Sultan held an urgent audience with his Bulgarian Consul and our beloved client-state's government-in-exile. All agreed that the first priority must be to liberate the country from Papist domination. The acting Defense Minister released the following prepared statement to the press agencies: `Fellow Muslims and Christians, ACA is approaching difficult times. The Papists appear to be fully entrenched within the Balkans, and our holding a stalemate line in the north with our Tsarist friends. We are relieved to know that the Tsar is still dedicated to the preservation of our unity, and OIL has begun a search to round up the undoubtedly Papist agents who instigated these rumors to try to break the alliance up. Our Bulgarian neighbors are suffering under the yoke of Papist domination. Mosques are being razed to the ground while the Papist hierarchy has instituted so-called `reforms' in an attempt to force the Orthodox church to toe the Papist line. It is imperative that we save our neighbors as soon as we can. That Papist battleship, the Unholy Avenger, has shown remarkable resilience in holding out against our massive attack. We, therefore, believe that an attack from the north may be necessary. Although the garrison will be unfortunately on the east coast, it opens up opportunities for the Tsar to move his rearguard units to the front where they could then be used to support an attack against Serbia. Whether Bulgaria is White or Ottoman is not as much an issue, just so long as it is not Papist. We have instructed our naval commanders to assist the Tsar in moving his southern fleet garrison to the Black Sea coastline. We deeply hope that the Tsar agrees to this change of tact, or, better yet, can develop an even better strategy.'" Nicosia (UPI): "Because the much anticipated Papist attack on our new naval base has still not materialized, the Sultan has opened another seven-day window in the press ban here." Pergamum (MUM): "In light of the oppressor's wholesale defeat at the fortress of Belgrade, our movement has gained a newfound energy. Recruits are up two hundred percent, and we now have enough new members that we can send another courier team to consult with our Thracian brethren." Istanbul (AP): "The Porte offers its congratulations to the Belgian populace in their successful ouster of the Papist puppet, Hercule Poirot. OIL claims that the notorious Poirot has been a Papist agent since well before the beginning of the century. We hope the uncovering of his true identity will prevent him from ever returning to power in the Low Countries. The Sultan, hopes that he speaks on behalf of both the Tsar and the Kaiser, in offering the newly liberated Belgian state membership to ACA." Nicosia (AP): "Over two years since this garrison first began preparations for an amphibious assault by the Papist fleet, we still sit in the eastern edge of the Levant, unscathed. The unexpected repulsion of our attack on the Unholy Avenger has led to new classified orders for the First Fleet. It is believed that this a joint project with OIL, but no leaks have been made to the press." (Bern) Experts of the international strategic institute have published results of their analysis of the French-German war. The experts argue that the reoccupation of Belgium by French forces is 'almost certain'. The real question they see is whether this will result in the destruction of the German army being in Belgium now. 'It all depends on whether the Ruhr will be free' the report says. The Balkan Sergeant-at-Arms remarked, "If we are to survive these next two years, we must be able to retain a stable economic base to operate from. While it saddens all of us to abandon one of our original locations, we cannot hope to maintain two locales a Continent away from each other. Besides, the economic infrastructures in France and Germany are considerably more advanced than in Greece. We will draw from our dwindling Balkan resources, but we do not expect them to last for more than a year." The abandonment of the Greek center leaves the region open for exploitation by the dominant eastern power, Schnitz, as well as the exiled Austrian Arabs, and another country on the rocks, Fredonia. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Prime Royal Schnitzel announced today that the former black sea task force has been renamed the the Crown Prince and will become a "glimmering palace on the water". The announcement came after the enemies of the kingdom have been subtlely convinced to vacate the shores of the great black sea. The Prime reported now that the lands of our forefathers is ours again and we seek peace with all our neighbors. Much perplexion went up in the crowd over this remark since the Prime's family hailed from some obscure valley off of the baltic sea. After a moments delay though the people shouted "on to germany" to the Prime's enjoyment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Autumn '02 of the game NOW AND ZEN (BNC number not known) (GM is andre@duteina.tudelft.nl/Andre Verweij) Austria : uunet!cognos!davee/Dave Edmunds England : dani@netcom.uucp/Dani Zweig France : d89magni@odalix.ida.liu.se/Magnus Nilsson Germany : beacker@mips.com/Brad Eacker Italy : mike@suna.computation.umist.ac.uk/Mike Reddy Russia : sun!uunet.uu.net!tnc!m0103/David Breeding Turkey : floyd@warwick.ac.uk/FloYd Deadline Thursday 11 April 6.00 GMT.
