Men and women rushed into the streets of Vienna after the repulsion of Russian and Italian troops. Although both the regions of Trieste and Vienna had no armies within region to defend them, the Emperor called upon troops in neighboring regions to defend these vital centers. In the meantime, Austrian troops conquered Serbia, thus giving our great nation three important victories in one magnificent stroke. Upon hearing this news, the citizens of Austria sang the praises of the Austrian troops, showing the world a little of our Viennese pride! The entire nation is behind the Emperor as he strengthens his position to repel further attacks! **PEOPLE ARE STRANGE** Today the Archduke of Austria, acting as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, remarked that it is indeed strange how Italy spread rumors of Austrian anger over the Italian fishing monopoly in the Adriatic Sea. "If we were so angry, then why did they attack us? If we are so angry, shouldn't WE have attacked THEM first?" said the Archduke. He continued by stating, "This attack was totally unprovoked. We had made no effort to involve ourselves with our Italian neighbors. In fact, why should we? Look at them. They can't even take over an unoccupied territory! Italy is no real threat to us. However, if those of Rome wish to continue their attacks, we shall be reluctantly forced to retaliate. IF and WHEN that happens, the Romans shall be left without a country." Though the Archduke had begun his speech with a laugh, his tone became deadly serious by the end. The people of Vienna, and all parts of the Empire, gave spirited approval to their Emperor and his Archduke. It seems that this nation is prepared for anything that may come. Men AND women how vowed to take up arms for their nation if need be to defend their great empire. ============================================================================= GAME 1991 EP 101 Last Update: 11th February 1991 Gamename - The Somme Positions ========= -------------------- | Date: Fall 1902 | -------------------- Positions Country Army Fleet ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Austria Vie, Bud, Tri Adr England Yor, Bel Hel, Nts, Nor France Pic, Bur, Mar Mid, Gol Germany Kie, Ruh, Mun, Den Hol Italy Tyr, Ven Tus, Tys Russia Boh, Gal, Ukr, Rum Swe, Bla Turkey Con, Smy, Gre Aeg, Eme Notes ----- * - Unit retreating this season. ** - Unit disbanded. ============================================================================= GAME 1991 EP 101 Last Update: 19th February 1991 Movements ========= -------------------- | Date: Fall 1902 | -------------------- Abbreviations ============= s - successful f - failed std - standoff rrq - retreat required for this unit Austria ------- A TRI AS A VIE HOLD f support cut by Ita A TYR-TRI F ADR FS A TRI HOLD s A BUD AS A VIE HOLD rrq A VIE AS A BUD HOLD f support cut by Rus A BOH-VIE England ------- A BEL -> HOL s F NTS S A BEL -> HOL s F HEL S A BEL -> HOL s F NOR -> STP s A YOR Holds s France ------ A Mar holds s F G of L holds s F Mid to North Africa s A Pic to Bel s A Bur to Ruhr f Germany ------- MUN-> BUR f HOL sup RUH f support cut by Eng A BEL-HOL (Ger F HOL disband) RUH sup HOL f support cut by Fra A BUR-RUH DEN sup KIE s KIE sup DEN s Italy ----- A Tyr -> Tri (Tyrolia to Trieste) f A Ven S A Tyr -> Tri (Venice support Tyrolia to Trieste) f F Tus -> Tys (Tuscany to Tyrrhenian Sea) s F Tys -> Tun (Tyrrhenian Sea to Tunis) s Russia ------ F Sweden-Norway s F Black Sea holds s A Ukraine holds s A Bohemia-Vienna f cuts support of Aus A VIE SA BUD A Galicia-Budapest s A Rumania supports A Galicia-Budapest s Turkey ------ F AEG S F EME-ION s A CON S A GRE-BUL s F EME-ION s A GRE-BUL s A SMY-ANK s Disbands and retreats --------------------- Ger F HOL disbanded (no valid retreats) Aus A BUD to retreat (SER) or be disbanded. GAME 1991 EP 101 Last Update: 19th February 1991 Press Fall 1902 =============== Reuters News Service DATELINE (Warsaw) -- Rioting rocked this modest eastern European capital last week as angry Poles took to the streets looting and pillaging their own city. Particularly hard hit by the mob action, it was reported, were pet shops as the desperate Poles grabbed for as many fish bowls as they could find. The enraged Poles complained bitterly that the departing Russian army had no concern or compassion for their poor half-brothers, leaving them with a completely inadequate supply of the commodity in the face of the mounting world "fish bowl" shortage. Reuters News Service DATELINE (Vatican City) -- The Pope issued a plea for peace yesterday, asking all nations to lay down their arms, and cease fighting. "This conflict over fish oil is barbarous and heathen in every way," the pontiff declared. "The world must learn to share the available supply, realizing of course the utmost importance of keeping the Eternal Flame burning in Rome for the sake of the world's sanctity." DATELINE (Stockholm) -- The King of Sweden, in an official statement, yesterday urged the world's governments to release their stock piles of fish oil. "The crisis is reaching critical proportions here in Sweden. Almost all our massage schools have closed their doors due to a lack of oil. The Swedish people are becoming stiff and irritable as a result, and if this critical shortage of fish oil is not soon alleviated it may well spell the end of the Swedish people!" Official Press Release ---------------------- The liberation of Germany has begun. It is hoped that the people of Germany will rise up against their dictator so as to ease the number of German casualties. We of the grand British Empire do indeed hope to make this operation quick, decisive, and as bloodless as possible. In the north, one of our fleets is currently patrolling the Russian coastline to ensure that no armed forces are formed there in the coming year. We anticipate a possible conflict in Norway and do resolve to drive back any invasion within the next year. We hold open all channels for negotiations with foreign powers and will seriously consider any peace proposals which prove amenable to the British people. -- The British Prime Minister ============================================================================= GAME 1991 EP 101 Last Update: 19th February 1991 Gamename - The Somme Positions ========= -------------------- | Date: Autumn 1902 | -------------------- Positions Country Army Fleet ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Austria Vie, Bud(*), Tri Adr England Yor, Hol Hel, Nts, StP(nc) France Bur, Mar, Bel Naf, Gol Germany Kie, Ruh, Mun, Den Hol(**) Italy Tyr, Ven Tun, Tys Russia Boh, Bud, Ukr, Rum Nor, Bla Turkey Ank, Con, Bul Ion, Aeg Notes ----- * - Unit retreating this season. ** - Unit disbanded. ============================================================================= GAME 1991 EP 101 Last Update: 21st February 1991 Retreats/Adjustments ==================== -------------- | Date: Autumn | -------------- Austria ------- A BUD retreats to SER F ADR disbands (unfortunately) France ------ Build F BRE Russia ------ Build A MOS Positions ========= -------------------- | Date: Winter 1902 | -------------------- Positions Country Army Fleet ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Austria Vie, Ser, Tri Adr England Yor, Hol Hel, Nts, StP(nc) France Bur, Mar, Bel Naf, Gol Germany Kie, Ruh, Mun, Den Hol(**) Italy Tyr, Ven Tun, Tys Russia Boh, Bud, Ukr, Rum Nor, Bla Turkey Ank, Con, Bul Ion, Aeg Notes ----- * - Unit retreating this season. ** - Unit disbanded. With our great ally Great Britain who has always been our friend, France will crush the German forces. The Italians who tried to enlarge their borders over some fish oil crisis will also be crushed. Imperialism on this scale will not be tolerated. France will impose its own will over these countries in partnership with Great Britain. The Anglo-French alliance is strong. We will avenge any aggression against us and impose a regime that respects Human rights. However, any terrorist action will be firmly dealt with. London Times: April 1, 1902. This is no joke! History was made yesterday when English Prime Minister, Michael Salisbury, failed to retain a vote of confidence. In the voting that followed, the French President, Martin Heskins, was elected into 10 Downing Street. Mr. Heskins had previously refused the position, but accepted the latest offer on the condition that control of Belgium and Holland be turned over to France. An inside source had the following to say, "We feel that it is more important that Britian gain a leader with vison, than retain control of any continental territories." Prime Mininster Heskins stated that for the time being, Mr. Salisbury would remain in government service as Minister to Foreign Affairs. It is believed that Mr. Salisbury will remain in office only until such time that France formally occupies England. In his first day in office, Prime Minister Heskins announced that the Barents Sea would be open to English fishing fleets as soon as July of this year. This will alleviate fears that French aggression in the Atlantic would cause said fleets to lose vital income. Dateline Geneva: Russian citizens and the World are becoming increasingly alarmed at the recent English occupation of St. Petersburg and the massing of Turkish forces along the southern border. Is there a secret alliance? One expert had this to say, "Both the English and Turkish had delegations in Geneva during the recent conference concerning fishing rights in the Adriatic. It is possible that a secret treaty between England and Turkey was signed during this conference. The French may have called this fish oil conference to allow these two nations a forum to discuss a campaign against Russia." While the Russian Tzar is focusing all his attention on Austria-Hungary, Russian military officials anxiously await the imminent Turkish assault on Rumania and Sevastopol. ============================================================================= GAME 1991 EP 101 Last Update: 25th February 1991 Gamename - The Somme Positions ========= -------------------- | Date: Summer 1903 | -------------------- Country Army Fleet ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Austria Vie(*), Bud, Ser England Yor, Hol StP(nc), Nts, Hel re,BaS France Bur, Mar, Ruh Tus, Tun, Mid re,BaS Germany Kie, Ruh(**), Mun, Den Italy Pdm, Rom Gol, Wme Russia Boh, Gal, Vie, Liv, Mos Nor, Rum Turkey Apu, Ank, Bul Ion, Aeg Notes ----- * - Unit retreating this season. ** - Unit disbanded. ============================================================================= GAME 1991 EP 101 Last Update: 27th February 1991 Gamename - The Somme Movements ========= -------------------- | Date: Summer 1903 | -------------------- Austria ------- A Vienna retreats to Trieste ============================================================================= GAME 1991 EP 101 Last Update: 27th February 1991 Gamename - The Somme Positions ========= -------------------- | Date: Fall 1903 | -------------------- Country Army Fleet ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Austria Tri, Bud, Ser England Yor, Hol StP(nc), Nts, Hel re,BaS France Bur, Mar, Ruh Tus, Tun, Mid re,BaS Germany Kie, Mun, Den Italy Pdm, Rom Gol, Wme Russia Boh, Gal, Vie, Liv, Mos Nor, Rum Turkey Apu, Ank, Bul Ion, Aeg Notes ----- * - Unit retreating this season. ** - Unit disbanded. ============================================================================= GAME 1991 EP 101 Last Update: 4th March 1991 Gamename - The Somme Movements ========= -------------------- | Date: Fall 1903 | -------------------- Abbreviations ============= s - successful f - failed std - standoff rrq - retreat required for this unit Austria ------- A Trieste -> Venice s A Serbia SA Budapest hold s A Budapest holds s England ------- A Yorkshire holds s F St Petersburg -> Norway s F North Sea SF St Petersburg -> Norway s A Holland -> Kiel s F Heligoland Bight SA Holland -> Kiel s France ------ A Ruhr S English A Holland to Kiel s A Burgundy to Munich f cuts support of Ger A MUN SA KIE F Mid Atlantic Ocean to Spain(sc) std Ita F WME - SPN F Tunis hold s F Tuscany to Gulf of Lyon f cuts support of Ita F GOL SF WME-SPN A Marseilles SF Mid Atlantic Ocean to Spain(sc) f suppoort cut by Ita A PIE - MAR Germany ------- A Munich SA Kiel f support cut by Fra A BUR-MUN A Kiel SA Munich rrq A Denmark SA Kiel f Kiel (rrq) Italy ----- A Piedmont - Marseilles f cuts support of Fra A MAR SF MID-SPA(sc) A Rome - Tuscany f std with FRA A TUS F Western Mediterranean - Spain (sc assumed) std Fra F MID-SPA(sc) F Gulf of Lyon SF Western Mediterranean to Spain f support cut by FRA F TUS-GOL Russia ------ F Norway -> Sweden s A Livonia -> St.Petersburg s A Moscow SA Livonia -> St.Petersburg s A Bohemia -> Tyrolia s A Vienna SA Bohemia -> Tyrolia s A Galicia SA Vienna Hold s F Rumania holds s Turkey ------ F Aegean - Ionian s A Ankara - Constantinople s A Apulia SF Ionian - Naples s A Bulgaria S Russian F Rumania holds s F Ionian - Naples s Retreating Unit --------------- Ger A KIE (BER) GAME 1991 EP 101 Last Update: 4th March 1991 Gamename - The Somme Press Fall 1903 =============== Official Statement After attempts at peace and friendship with their neighbor, Austria has grown fed up with the unprovoked Russian attacks and broken promises.
