We're losing to those accursed Italians, and we all know how | |badly they fight,' frothed the Defense Minister. `I mean, look at | |World War Two -- they needed the help of the Germans in order to get | |them out of that scrape...' All subsequent events at this most recent | |press conference are confidential and have been censored by the | |Sultan's personal Imperial Guard. | | | |The historical performance of Germany, notwithstanding, in addition, to | |the surprise categorization of the enemy as `Italians' instead of the | |Imperial Press Policy of `Papists' led to the Sultan's conclusion that | |the Defense Minister was overly stressed in the wake of our latest | |Balkan fiasco. The Defense Minister has been placed on mandatory leave | |until further notice. As our Western Special Forces were routed at | |Belgrade, defensive operations now rest with the Naval Commander." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Nicosia (UPI): "`And get me that Third Fleet Admiral on the radio, | |right now!!' In the wake of the absence of an Italian attack on the | |new naval base at Cyprus, the Sultan has opened a two-week window on | |the press ban to allow for all Defense Ministry press statements before | |we initiate our fall campaigns." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Nicosia (AP): "The Supreme Naval Commander has apologized to the Tsar | |for his subordinates' failure to retake Bulgaria. However, we are also | |concerned at the Russian failure to take Trieste. `The Papists should | |have been crushed in the north, and the joint military mishaps on both | |our parts have given their damned forces breathing room and a new lease | |on life,' remarked the Commander. `We do hope the Tsar still maintains | |his anti-Papist policies in the wake of these past failures. We fear | |that the German situation is too unpredictable, and any unnecessary | |southern intrigue could hand the Continent to the French. We once | |again ask that your southern fleet support us on the south coast of | |Bulgaria; this time our forces will be coming from the Aegean. We fear | |the ACA is approaching a breaking point, and we will try to do | |everything possible to reverse that trend. Finally, we thank you for | |the free passage in the Black Sea. We hope this additional naval | |presence will guarantee the security of our beloved client-state.'" | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Istanbul (UPI): "OIL has released the following statement from their | |Bulgarian branch at Sofia: `Although Bulgaria has a significant | |Catholic segment of the population, the Italian occupation force still | |suppresses the people with, shall I say, glee. The local Italian | |commander apparently believes that the Latin and Greek rites of | |Catholicism cannot peacefully co-exist, and has taken upon himself the | |task of destroying the "heretical Bulgars". It is rumored this act has | |the sanction of the Vatican. It is odd, is it not, that we find | |greater safety under the protection of Muslims, as opposed to fellow | |Christians? We plead with the Tsar's southern fleet for his assistance | |in bringing the Turks back to our country.' Both OIL and the Defense | |Ministry have pledged to help our beloved client-state return to the | |status quo." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Troubled Kaiser Has Vision | |Berlin (CNN) - The Kaiser slept poorly last night. He had, by his own | |account, a mysterious vision of the future. Willhelm is a firm | |believer in reincarnation, and he often catches glimpses of a bright, | |happy, technologically advanced world in which he believes he will have | |his next incarnation. In his latest vision, however, he saw himself | |receiving a reprimand for inadequate work, which has greatly put him | |out. As he broods over the meaning of his prescience, the antics which | |previously so amused the European public have all but disappeared. Let | |us hope that at least our beloved Kaiser does not take ill and die from | |his latest sorrow. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Summer 1905 LE PARISIEN | | | | Andre Pardon lover of German Kaiser? | |Paris - French intelligence officers revealed yesterday why mad | |Willhelm of Germany promoted former French private Andre Pardon to | |German general rank. "They are lovers, it's just that easy! After being | |rejected by Mademoiselle DuSang, the traitor Pardon noticed his | |homosexual tendencies. These met nicely with the gay behaviour of the | |German ursupator of the throne. Like the former Russian czarina | |Katharina who always made her current lover a general Wilhelm the Mad | |promoted Pardon - who happens to be a veterinarian like himself - to | |his very private general." | | | | Hercule Poirot visits France | |Brussels/Paris - The Belgian prime minister Hercule Poirot plans a six- | |month visit to Paris "for intensive negotiations with the French | |government". When confronted with rumors that he just wants to escape | |German troops, Poirot said, "Unfortunately it is true that the | |A-Belgians may be defeated by the B-Belgians due to German support. | |However, under my leadership, Belgium will be frenched again next year! | |There is no use in getting killed by German bastards when you can kill | |them later instead!" | | | | King Louis sends special ambassador to Russia | |Paris - Our beloved king Louis LXXIV. has sent Charles Tres-Charmant to | |Russia for peace negotiations. While the French fleet is advancing to | |the east and may be confronted with Russian fleets on its way there, | |the strategic high command seems to have changed its mind about the | |planned attack on Scandinavia. "We would like to have peace with Russia | |again," an official said. "While we do have the power to hurt Russia | |somewhat and beat Germany at the same time, Russia and France together | |would get much further. The liberation of Germany from crazy | |Wolly-Willy (TM of our beloved king) is much a better idea. Russia | |could easily gain Kiel and Berlin while France would get Holland and | |Munich. Afterwards a stalemate line could be established to prevent | |future wars." It is hoped that the Russian czar will discuss these | |offers with Monsieur Tres-Charmant and that his positive answer will be | |heard this year so that preparations could be made for next year. | |Foreign minister C'estbon announced that "this offer is by no means a | |hostile act against Italy! The pope is still our friend, but he must | |allow us not to join his war against Russia unless Russia remains | |hostile." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Summer 1905 THE PAPAL BULL 250 Lira | | "The News, the Whole News, and Nothing But the News" | | | | Pope Sadis I Returns From Vacation | |Vatican (VD) - His Holiness returned today from his lengthy vacation | |which lasted through the spring, and immediately declared a new | |five-year plan for the paper industry which ended the shortage once and | |for all. In a press conference, the Pope apologized for the lack of | |press in the past months, but said all has been righted. | | | | Trap Works! Victory in the Balkans! | |Athens (IPS) - Field Marshal Romulus marched triumphantly at the head | |of the Tunisian Legion as it marched into Belgrade crushing all | |resistance before it. In a suprise sweep through Serbia and into | |Bulgaria, Romulus caught the Turks off guard, and even managed to force | |the surrender of the entire Turkish First Army in Serbia. Much of | |their equipment and manpower was surrendered, including the latest | |Persian stealth rugs which had harried our boys for some time. It is | |not long before Turkey proper falls, but the next stage of the plan is | |up to the Italian navy and Admirial JC. | | | | OIL Agents Captured in Venice | |Venice (IPS) - Three OIL (Ottoman Intelligence Leauge) agents were | |caught in Venice after they asked a local police office the way to St. | |Peter's. The officer arrested them on the spot, because in addition to | |the large explosive devices which they carried under their turbans, | |everyone knows that St. Peter's is in Rome. The three were executed | |later that day after a fair trial. | | | | Genoans Build Permenant Naval Base for French | |Genoa (IPS) - The Genoan mayor anounced that the same engineering team | |which undertook the Alpine project five years ago is being called upon | |to create a permanent naval base for the French in the Piedmont area. | |"The threat from a Russian sneak attack around Venice is too great to | |risk", declared Admirial Julius Ceaser when asked about the project. | |It is hoped that the French will remain in the area and help with | |construction. Besides, the Italian Riviera has beaucoup de nude | |beaches and skiing is great. | | | | Ilke v. Ekle Sent Weapons, Ammunition | |Rome (IPS) - In an attempt to win the favor of those fighting for the | |German throne, His Holiness announce a plan to begin the shipment of | |arms to the not-so-loyal rebel forces of Frau v. Ekle. If she can | |overthrow the Kaiser and take control, there is a chance that Germany | |may come to her senses. Otherwise, it doesn't take an oracle to see | |that the Germans will soon be stabed by the evil Tsar and his horde. | |If Ikle ((sic)) does take power, the pope has promised his upmost | |support in helping the Germans find Lebensraum in der Ost. | ================================================================================ Winter '03 of the game MASTERS OF DECEIT (BNC number not known) (Expert game, GM is prb@chinet.chi.il.us/Paul Botts) Austria : sullivan@osl380a.erim.org/Richard Sullivan England : ken@milton.bitnet/Ken Lowe France : pl436000@brownvm.bitnet/Jamie Dreier Germany : sinhaa@mcmaster.bitnet/Anand Sinha Italy : mad-2@kub.nl/Constantijn Wekx Russia : pinkse@vax.lse.ac.uk/Joris Pinkse Turkey : daybell@aludra.usc.edu/Donald Daybell Date: Tue, 2 Apr 91 13:13:47 CST Hmm, well, I got this back today, which seems to indicate that my latest plea for orders didn't get through to Anand. Regiments of the Kuwaiti and Fredonian armies joined in frolicking mirth and burned hotdogs on the trampled planes of Serbia this month. Strangely absent were the nationalist Somewhere front which apparently thought that the picnic was to be held in Budapest. Whatever the cause, their map must have been incorrect or something as they haven't been seen since the occassion began. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Adriatic Cult HQ Attacked by Arabs In the midst of a Continent-wide campaign aimed at undermining support for the fledgling Cult of Ambiguity and Confusion, the exiled emir of Kuwait raided the original Balkan Cult HQ at Trieste. This latest event marks a series of setbacks that struck the Cult since the beginning of the year. While the Cult expanded southward into Tirana and Athens, Austrian Arab agents infiltrated the organization and eventually shut it down in a matter of a few months. The President of the Athens Branch, and former Sergeant-at-Arms in Trieste, commented of the surprise attack, `Those crazy Arabs. You take away their country, and they go on a rampage and destroy everything in the name of some silly jihad. Anarchy reigns supreme in Germany. We were forced to temporarily shutdown our German industrial branch, which was our most successful venture. And now this. I just don't know what we can do about those Arabs.' Meanwhile, both the Western and Balkan sects find themselves regrouping in the face of increasing government hostility. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reports out of the far east indicate that the displaced kingdom of schnitz has been undergoing it haphazard military movements due to the rare lemmingitis disease. It is reported the disease broke out after the kingdom used the aquaduct system in constantinopole acquired from fredonia from somewhat sorted means. The great king was reported to have spit out the water and exclaimed plooohi on his royal sightseeing trip. He then expressed doubt as to why he ever bought the land from the kingdoms of kuwait and somwhere and said the fredonian's can have it back. Just another case in point that the king has gone mad, for his slip of the tongue and why did he pay out for constantinopole. The royal army was extremely distraught that they did not kick butt and send the fredonians flying, but instead they were paid off. Rumors have the royal armies in revolt, and no land actions can be expected in the near future. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 4 Apr 91 12:36:02 EST Pandora Fall 1903, Ultimate Shambles Game. ------------------------------------------ (GM is Greg Paul paulg@frith.egr.msu.edu/517-351-2165) Players: Anarchy campbell@capsrv.jhuapl.edu/Rich Campbell Entropy csw@icf.hrb.com/Craig White Fredonia grantham@math.lsa.umich.edu/Jon Grantham Schnitz io81144@maine.bitnet/Brian Scheller Somewhere rolee@jarthur.claremont.edu/Roderick Lee Kuwait pepper@pawl.rpi.edu/Joshua Jackson Roarkia gw@sickkids.utoronto.edu/Grahm Wilson GM Notes: ========= Please note that Jon Grantham/Fredonia (once again) has a new address. Or we just plain get bored of the training maneuvers." The Rich Get Richer - Swiss Imperial Press. Entropy, Roarkia, and Schnitz all expanded at the cost of their smaller neighbors this year. When will the final conflict begin? Gossip Column - Swiss Imperial Press. Can Kuwait and Fredonia possibly be this disorganized? Is there some insideous plot here? This latest event marks a series of setbacks that struck the Cult since the beginning of the year. We were forced to temporarily shutdown our German industrial branch, which was our most successful venture. And now this. I just don't know what we can do about those Arabs.' Meanwhile, both the Western and Balkan sects find themselves regrouping in the face of increasing government hostility. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fall '02 of the game NOW AND ZEN (BNC number not known) (GM is andre@duteina.tudelft.nl/Andre Verweij) Austria : uunet!cognos!davee/Dave Edmunds England : dani@netcom.uucp/Dani Zweig France : d89magni@odalix.ida.liu.se/Magnus Nilsson Germany : beacker@mips.com/Brad Eacker Italy : mike@suna.computation.umist.ac.uk/Mike Reddy Russia : sun!uunet.uu.net!tnc!m0103/David Breeding Turkey : floyd@warwick.ac.uk/FloYd Deadline Monday 25 March.
