I know I will in the South. France: Better listen to Italy -- I haven't heard him this fierce all game. Maybe Paris has awakened a sleeping Roman juggernaut? Germany: Would you mind examining the moves made before you took over? What have I done to earn the appellation of a "bozo" opposing you? I would be pretty damn insane myself to press for your destruction. I had a tough time getting the previous German player to accept my help. I trust you will not be as recalcitrant. I moved A Boh, which was intended to support A Mun but may have been interpreted as threatening, to a more defensive stance in Tyrolia. My army in Vienna took off for greener pastures; I could just as easily had Vienna support Bud. You can accept my offer of friendliness, and cease your calls for "crushing-type activities" against me. Or you can ensure that foreigners will occupy Berlin. It's all up to you. Italy: Good luck against France. I think he's a reasonable fellow and will pull out of the Med. My army in Tyrolia will shield you from possible German attacks, and in no way threatens you. Russia: Sorry about the stab, but what else could I do? I honestly wanted to conduct a close alliance with you, but England's aggression voided any hope of help from you against Turkey. I would have butted heads against the Turks forever. You can thank the English-French alliance for the circumstances which forced me to precipitate your downfall. Maybe other players can learn from this circumstance how aggressive and dangerous these two Western powers truly are. Turkey: Ready for a cooling-off period? I don't think you can hurt me any more than I can hurt you, and my orders should enable you to make advances on, er, other grounds. >From England: The British Government wishes to annouce a policy of "Peace, Love, and Worldwide Understanding". The announcement is scheduled to take place in Moscow this fall... To: France: With Austrian support, I trust that the German question will soon be settled. My fleet at helgoland is, alas, no more. However, I think that the Kaiser will find that two German fleets do not make for an effective defense against Austrian or French land attacks... If you need to build F Bre, please feel free to do so. As long as it moves to MAO immediately, we have no problems. We may build F Lon as well, to support the North Sea Fleet against the Bosche. Best of luck. I suggest that you work on Munich.. Austria: We are delighted that proud Austria considers us a threat. Permit us to regard you in the same light. That does not mean that we can't work together for our common good, of course. Perhaps yous should consider reevaluating your commitment to Russia in view of current military realities? Italy: Are you in fact spoiling for war with the French? >From France: (Paris, fall 1903) The Minister of Information releases the following statements to the other Great Powers: To: Austria: Yes, you and Italy can maintain an impenetrable barrier. I question why you are so upset with French fleets in waters that border French territories, however. It seems to me you should want them to stay in these areas, rather than making offensive maneuvers. As you requested, I will begin listing all Russian supply centers that you own. Current total: None :-). England: Your Scandinavian adventures are becoming more and more upsetting. I thought we agreed to ally against Germany, but instead you are attacking Russia. I agree that Germany has not shown great tactical prowess, but that isn't any excuse to waste time. If we're going to ally against Germany, then both of us have to concentrate on attacking Germany. I can't do it alone, as my stagnation the last three seasons indicates. If we can't agree on this, I may be forced to stop attacking Germany and try to expand elsewhere. If Germany is really going to attack Austria, it would be to our benefit to help out in any way possible . . . I am going to attempt to repair the rift between France and Italy, since I also believe the Pope could be a valuable ally in the future. Thanks for the luck in battle if it goes that way. Germany: This will seem strange, considering my moves this season, but bear with me, OK? If you are serious about moving against the Austrian/Italian alliance, I am willing to end our border squabble and retreat from Ruhr. If we both moved south, the results could be quite lucrative. Naturally, we would need to make sure England continues attacking Russia, which doesn't seem to be too hard. If a western triple could be forged, we could crush the eastern powers, since they are still in turmoil over the Balkan region. I moved against you this season because I need to expand (I didn't get a build last year, need one this year, and you were the easiest target). If I did successfully take Munich, and you still wish to combine forces and move south, I will of course be willing to return it to you. If this plan doesn't sound viable, perhaps we could ally against England? Our alliance seems to be more of a non-aggression pact than an alliance at this point. Your second fleet would not be a lead weight if you were fighting England, and you seem to have an anti-English inclination, based on last season. Just a few ideas to think about ... Italy: As you requested, here is an explanation for my interference in your affairs: It was necessary to slow the growth of Austria. You were helping promote Austria's growth by assisting in the carving of Turkey. The only way I could attempt to change this was to threaten to move against you. Obviously, my plans were successful. I agree that if we are to maintain a non-aggression pact, I should remove a fleet. I am willing to remove one fleet from the Med if you will retreat from Piedmont. I would also like to see your fleet leave the Tyrhennian once things have smoothed out. I cannot withdraw a fleet this season for obvious reasons, and I will treat any agressive moves this season on your part as a declaration of war. Please consider the fact that I did not take any agressive actions with my fleets (such as attacking Tunis or the Tyrhennian Sea) as an indication of my willingness to cooperate. Regarding Austria's offer for assistance, I would imagine he would be glad to occupy Venice to help you defend Piedmont. Regarding the Austrian suggestion that your next build come from French territories - you don't have to be a tactical genius to realize that it will be extremely difficult for you to quickly take one of my supply centers. The only one you are currently in any position to occupy is Marseilles. You have one unit to attack with, I have three or four to defend with. As far as getting to an Iberian center, my two fleets will be able to prevent your two fleets from doing this. My suggestion, as a still-peaceful-neighbor, is to look elsewhere for a build. Russia: I hope you're moving to reclaim Rumania and bash the Austrians, as the Germans requested. It would be difficult, if not impossible, for you to reclaim the northern territory immediately. My best advice is to concentrate on the south and (perhaps temporarily) forget about St. Pete. You can always try to reclaim it later... Turkey: It looks like my Mediterranean activities have given you some breathing room. I hope you can take advantage of it. I am going to try to patch things up with Italy, if possible. If this fails and war breaks out between us, I expect that you will be able to provide me some assistance by attacking the Ionian Sea and diverting the attention of Austria. >From Germany: --------------------- The East Berlin Angst --------------------- Berlin (CNN) - In the second coup of 1903, the German leader was once again overthrown. The new leader is a previously unknown black-clad figure known only as "Dieter". Dieter has completely revamped Germany's foreign policy and is instituting a policy of "active non-resistance". He claims that he wants to be "just friends" with everybody, but due to the aggressive moves which some of his neighbours have made in the past, he has made a comprehensive list of demands which he has on his neighbours, including: - France must demilitarize the Rhineland, or Ruhr valley, "by high noon tomorrow". Additionally it must give up its claims to sovereignty over Holland, "an obviously German province". It would also be "sporting" if it were to withdraw one of its fleets from the Mediterranean. - England must stop advancing in Russia and, ideally, ought to withdraw from St. Petersburg. In any event, she must also relinquish her claim to Sweden, which will remain a Russian province. - Russia and Austria must exchange Galicia and Rumania before the end of 1904. - Turkey must send a unit eastward "to confront the Iraqi menace". - Italy must recognize Tunis' claims to being "a distinct society". Dieter will look at the various countries' records of compliance before determining who it will consider its friends. In addition, Dieter demands that all leaders "touch [his] monkey". In his closing remarks, Dieter noted that "now is time on Shprockets when we dance". >From Italy: To: France: The arrogance of the French knows no bounds. Do you seriously expect me to sit still and leave myself wide open? You continually ask me to have faith in your good intention toward the Italian motherland, yet react in a beligerant and untrusting manner when I even so much as recall one of my armies from foreign soil. The Italian government has never seen fit to consult France on the disposition of the Italian military forces, and will not begin to do so now. That you should seek to interfere in Italian foreign policy is scandelous. That you should attempt to dictate to Italy on how and where it may deploy it's armies within the borders of the Italian Motherland is almost unpardonable. I do not believe that you have any true feelings of trust and friendship for my country. The only way in which you can assure me that my assumptions are wrong is the reduction of the French naval presence in the Med and an open and public undertaking on your part to refrain from interfering in the policies and actions of the Italian Government. I may have to speak to the Pontif on the most un-Catholic activities of France toward the homeland of the Church. If there is to be a war between us, it will be of your making, not of mine. >From Russia: To: England: Disgusting English pigs. Now you will feel the entire might of the Imperial Russian Fleet crushing you like sardines. >From Turkey: French fleets in the Mediteranean, an English army in St. Pete, and a German army in Selesia - I will halt my terribly dangerous adventuristic advances while Russia, Austria and Italy decide where to draw the line. To: Austria/Russia: Maybe this would be a good time to let Russia move his fleet into Rumania. He really could use a new army to support Moscow/Warsaw. And you could move into the Ukraine and Galicia claiming that he needs more 'support'! In any case, don't you have real enemies to fight elsewhere? Italy: Thanks for pulling back. As you see, I am no real threat and there is so little to gain from taking me over. England: Have you considered the "Hawkline monster" attack: StP - Liv - Pru - Ber? France: Thankyou for jerking the Italian leash. Next Spring I will attack the Ionian since I have little else to do. France: England seems to have slacked up on Germany, and Italy seems to be moving west. Good luck, and thank you for the demonstration in the Med. Grey Press: to ev'ryone...england didn't do so well against the krauts, eh? and now france wants to build a fleet in brest, hmmm... ************************ GM's notes: Deadline for W'03 is Tuesday Mar 12, 1991. I'll pull out of Bulgaria if you promise to go after somebody else. What do you think? Your Fall moves were a pleasant surprise; I hope I'll see more of the same! I will certainly refrain from making any offensive moves as long as you behave. :-) But what of your threat to enter the Ionian? Dastardly black press? Your own devious schemings? Needless to say, such a move would send our thawing relations into a deep freeze. Your plans to enter the Ionian are a declaration of war as far as I'm concerned. Russia can hardly delay me. I shall move through Sevastopol and smother you. Germany: It would be appreciated if you could use your Silesian army to help me into Warsaw in return for future favours, but I'll understand if you need it elsewhere. The old Kaiser's story had become tiresome. I am greatly honored to be your neighbor. I would like to leave you alone while I dance in Russia. Please be my friend. I would like to touch your monkey. Here monkey... Hey! The little bastard bit me! Come here, you! England: You're not going to squeeze much more out of Russia. The campaign against Germany has ground to a halt. Your ally has openly proposed an alliance against you. Why not pull a stab, with my help? You and Italy can take on France. You and I can carve up what's left of Russia. I'll leave the German question up to you; we can squash him, enlist him as an ally, or leave him alone. France: I think it's a good idea for you to withdraw a fleet. You are sure to need it against England or Germany. Italy: I hope I haven't offended you by including you in the anti-French proposal. From your Fall press, I didn't think you'd object. I will certainly not need to move into Venice to support you. If you need my support somewhere, ask. Russia: Does this mean I'm not on your Christmas card list? >From England: Due to circumstances beyond our control, the announcement of our "Peace, Love and Worldwide Understanding" policy will be postponed until we finally do reach Moscow. To: France: Do I look like I'm in a position to take on Germany? Patience, patience! As it appears that Austria doesn't want to take his share of Germany, you're on your own until I've maneuvered into position. Keep up the good work! Just one question: you're willing to remove a fleet from the Med, you say to Italy. Tell me, where are you going to put it?... Bonsoir, my gallant ally. I want to heal any rift that might be developing between us. here are my thoughts on four issues: 1. The destruction of Germany. This is going slower than either of us expected, and I accept a lion's share of the blame for it (although not all!). When he built the second fleet, I thought that he was clearly a goner. I didn't count on the Austrian support (which is the only way that that he can hold Munich), nor on the willingness of Italy to just...sit there. What should we do? Well, I will start working on Denmark/Helgoland/Kiel as soon as I get there. I anticipate that you will be able to take Holland in two or three moves, which will break his back. 2. My Russian adventure. I went after St.Pete (and, hopefully, Sweden) for several reasons. One was that I thought we had Germany in the bag, and I wanted my piece of Russia before Austria/Turkey carved him up. I also thought that I should try to maintain rough parity with you in centers, and since you'll be getting almost all of the German ones, this was my only chance to grow. I have no regrets - we'll be able to hit Germany from the north as I cut through Scandanavia and the Baltic, and so this move might have eventually been necesary anyway. 3. Austria. This is our most serious problem, and it is the one reason that we should stay together. Austria is well on its way to winning the game. Russia will be dead shortly, and Turkey is not strong enought to stand by itself. Evene if we dispatch Germany quickly, I expect us to face an Austrian/Italian combination with more centers (I'll have 6-7 or so, you'll have 7-8, they'll have the rest). 4. Threats to each other. I built F Edi this turn; I anticipate your building F Brest, which is fine as long as it moves to MAO right away. As I see it, it makes no sense for us to even think of stabbing each other right now. It would be hard. to do (both our forces are close to home). It would be dangerous (Germany, the logical partner, would gain more than either of us). And it would be stupid (while we were busy hacking each other, Austria would win the game easily). So, for all these reasons, you can count on me. I trust that I can count on you. Austria: Moscow is mine! All mine! MINE, YOU HEAR?!?!!! BWAHAHAHA! Russia: Nyah-nyah nyah-nyaaaaaah-nyah! Italy: Just a friendly note advising you to examine your alliance with Austria. If you desire Itly to secure it's rightful place among nations, may I suggest that now would be a good time to attack them. Before he destroys Russia. And before he overwhelms Turkey. You and France can stare at each other in the Med until doomsday with no result - perhaps you might consider employing you fleets and armies where they can do you (and us) some good? Turkey: Hang in there. If you and the remains of Russia can hold off the Austrian juggernaut for a while, I expect France and I to arrive and save the day... >From France: (Paris, winter 1903) The rapidly changing state of world affairs has been a source of great concern to the French government. Current foreign policy is being evaluated, and various proposals for change have been introduced. A decision is expected within the year. The Minister of Information released the following statements to the other world leaders: To: Russia: Well, life is tough, I guess. It looks like England's got it in for you; I guess it's only a matter of time. Your best bet now is probably to set your sights on Rumania or something and try to hold out a bit longer, as you're probably going to lose Warsaw to the Austrians and Germans. All I can do now is wish you luck. England: Thanks for the understanding about building fleets in Brest. The Italians are making it difficult to leave Marseilles open... I don't know where you got the idea that Austria is going to support attacks on Germany; his press and actions certainly don't indicate a desire to do that. As I indicated last season, I will be forced to make peace with Germany if I don't get help from somebody; I can't defeat Germany myself, and can't afford to stagnate while trying to do so. If you are still seriously interested in conquering the Kaiser, you're going to have to help out. It may be in our best interests to stop attacking Germany - you could then continue attacking Russia with your full force, while Germany and I could move south. Hello! Anybody there? Have you been listening to me at all? I will assume a yes, because we are allies...or are we? You pursue your goals in Russia, continue to egg me on toward Germany and do nothing to help me crush him. Now is the time to force his hand if we are ever going to do it, and the evidence still confirms that I can't do it by myself. I don't mind you attacking Russia, but I do mind your attacking him to the exclusion of everything else. If you were, say, to take your army in Norway and give him a convoy to the German coastline, you'd probably find some friendly support waiting there. Or maybe the unfortified Danish coast strikes your fancy. But if you don't start doing something to help out, all deals are off. Germany: I still need to expand, but since your enlightened defence held me off, and probably will continue to do so, I may well have to turn somewhere else. If I see a friendly word from you, I will do my best to pull back from our battlefront and attack elsewhere, as I don't see me making any more progress, with nobody else helping me out. It is still your best bet to help me out attacking a southern power, but I'll understand if you aren't terribly enamored with the idea at the moment, considering my continued attacks on your now-well-fortified positions. I know you don't trust me right now, but I guarantee that my moves this Spring will show you my peaceful intentions. Demilitarizing the Rhineland and renouncing claims to Holland are acceptable, if we can agree to put our differences behind us and work together. The demilitarization will occur by the end of 1904. If we can resolve our differences sooner, the demilitarization will occur sooner. As I indicated last season, it may be extremely lucrative for France and Germany to put the past behind us and enter a new era of cooperation. Austria: Thanks for the tip about Italy. Have fun carving up Russia. Total Russian supply centers under Austrian control: still zero. Italy: Your current unit positions make it impossible for me to remove a fleet from the Med. It's starting to look like war between us is inevitable. I suppose you had to choose a direction to move in sooner or later - either start a war with France, which has not grown at all in the last two years, or move against Austria, who is still rapidly expanding (you do realize that he will gain at least two more centers from Russia, and probably three?) Once again, the option to control the growth of Austria is yours... Turkey: It seems I may have jerked the Italian leash a bit too far... In the event of war between France and Italy, any help you could provide, such as attacking the Ionian, would be greatly appreciated. I hope you can take advantage of your new lease on life! >From Germany: ---------------- Shtuttgart Shtar ---------------- Shtuttgart (DPI): Dieter is very concerned about the displays of force by France which are nothing less than an attempt to demoralise the German people. Unless he receives an apology and a promise to retreat, he will declare war on the French. But it is a bit late for promises, and for now Dieter is not about to let his guard up. Dieter is concerned about the lack of communication from the English, and although the Russians attacked the German province of Denmark, he feels it is less harmful as Russia is finished anyway and will turn his attention elsewhere, but he will offer exile to the Russian ruler. Ah well. He currently has no quarrel against anybody except the belligerent French. ----------------- East Berlin Angst ----------------- Berlin (CNN) - When he realised that not one country had complied to any of his demands, Dieter decided to commit suicide and return as Shirley Maclean. When this didn't work, he surrendered to the French. He was given a villa in southern France in which to retire, but he has apparently left there and moved elsewhere, with our sources indicating that he's living in South Carolina under the assumed name of Elvis Presley. >From Italy: To: France: It seems I have reacted with typical latin short temper. I have no desire to cause a war with you, I am simply attempting to defend Italian interests, and suffer from excessive zeal in the execution of my duties. You may remain assured that as long as Gallic resolve does not involve the violation of the Italian borders, there is no reason to fear Italian agression. Austria: In the interests of a stable Mediterranian I have chosen to remain apart from the expansionist activities of both France and yourself. Germany: At this point in time, the continued protection of Tunis by Italian forces is necessary. Neither France or Austria can afford to see Tunis fall into the hands of the other. Should this happen, Italy would be dragged into conflict against one or perhaps both sides. Everyone: I have chosen to make Italy the 'peacekeepers' of the Mediterranian. For this reason Italy shall not support any nation for the purpose of conquest. Any violation of Italian borders shall be answered with maximum possible force, and shall cause Italy to seek alliance should I feel that I am unable to defend myself against unprovoked agression. >From Russia: >From Turkey: Is any one else begining to worry about Austria's divide and conquer success? Looks like Russia may be going down for the count. The resulting Austrian builds will drop nicely into place for continued pressure on Turkey and a possible stab of Italy (if it hasn't already happened). To: Austria: What's with the fleet in Bulgaria? You realize, of course, this means war. England: You can't take more of Russia, do you want to give it all to Austria? Happy traiiiiiiils to you... keep the pressure on Russia, please. Italy: All Turkish press to Italy this turn is forged. If you happen to find yourself in the Ionian and no French pressure to worry about, could you see supporting my fleet into Greece? This would give me another army to protect my rear against an expanding Austria and may hold him up from stabbing you. Note that someone is trying to embroil you in a fight with France and keep you worrying about Turkish fleets in the Ionian - Who could that be, I don't know, could it be ..... Austria? I have NO intention of moving towards Italy. Russia: If you lose a supply center, disbanding your fleet in the Black Sea would remove all causes of tension between us & I could move into Armenia to support you in Sev - the famous Springhill Mine Disaster defense. It is still recommended that you move on Rumania. Ankara will stay defended. Germany: All Turkish press to Germany this turn is forged. France: Keep the pressure up on Italy. If you pull a fleet out of the Med, the only place it could attack is England and that's the last thing I need right now. ************************ GM's notes: One player has announced that he will be away from March 18 until April 8. This is slightly inconvenient, and will probably result in another GM transfer as I will be losing this access near the end of April. I had hoped to be able to get this game done, but due to the slow startup and this interruption, I won't be able to. I am sorry about this. As far as when to do the next turn, hopefully this will get out to the player that is leaving in time for him to get orders back to me by March 18. (I will expect his orders by then.) Everyone else gets until about March 30. I will then send results back to you by April 4 or so. Hopefully I can then have the next turn due by April 10-11 or so to minimise this delay. Hopefully this will work. Also, please try not to be late with orders, it really slows things down. No Russian press was available at press time. So, could I get orders from everybody else by the beginning of April, and from the player who went away right when he gets back so we can get this turn done as soon as possible. Chanting nationalistic slogans | |and carrying banners reading "We don't fight for love or glory. We | |fight for territory", they surrounded a recruiting office and blocked | |all the entrances trying to enlist. So far there has been no need for | |a draft because of the number of enlistments: almost one million last | |month alone. We certainly hope the war fervour continues this | |strongly, and that we eventually win the war. | | | | War with Turkey Enters its Second Year | | Athens (IPS) Today marks the end of the first year of the Great Balkan | |War: a war undertaken by our great nation to keep the evil hand of the | |Turk off of the independent interests of the peoples of the Balkans. | |Field-Marshal Romulus, adressing his troops, stated the need for | |Opreation Mountain Shield, and stated that Operation Mountain Storm was | |not far off. "The Turks shall be crushed by the victorious jack-boot | |of Italian diplomacy", he stated. | | Militarily, the army has been ordered to entrench and await the coming | |Operation Mountain Storm. Currently, thousands of B-5.2 hot air | |balloons and M1/2 wagons are being rushed to storage depots behind the | |front. Morale is at an all-time high. The 'Bull' wishes well to all | |of our boys at the front. | | | | Talks With Russians Stall | | Moscow (IPS) Talks between our ambassador and the Russian military, | | civil, and religious leaders stalled last week due to differing | |opinions over the status of neutrals in the Balkans. The Papacy claims | |the any support to the Turks by the Russians, even supporting defensive | |positions, is an agressive act and should not be tolerated. In a | |diplomatic message delivered to the Tsar, the Ambassador Machavelli | |proposed a September 15th deadline, and warned that if the Russian | |support for the Turks continued after this date, "things would | |automatically start to happen". The Ambassador then left for Berlin | |where he will be meeting with the Germans, hopefully to propose a | |mutual defense pact. | | | | Covert Aid to Germany | | Rome (VD) | | ****NOTICE**** | | The following article about secret aid to the Germans in | | their war against Russia has been censored by the | | Military High Command and government because of its | | highly sensitive subject matter. Those responsible | | have been executed. | | ---The Staff of the Papal Bull | | | | Exile Denied to English | |Vatican (VD) Pope Sadis I announce that he would not extend an | |invitation to the English government to for a government in exile in | |Italy. "This is to show our continued loyalty to the French, the | |rightful rulers of England", stated his Holiness at a press | |conference. The invitation to the Austrians is, however, still open. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Istanbul (UPI): "Once again, the Sultan owes his thanks and praise to | |the Tsar in return for his assistance in restoring order to our beloved | |client-state of Bulgaria. `We should like to return the favor by | |aiding your forces in the ongoing siege of Belgrade. Our western | |security forces have been instructed to support any movement from your | |Hungarian outpost, in hopes of turning away further Italian | |aggression. We hope the long absence has not led to a change in heart, | |for our two nations must stand as one to resist Papal domination.'" | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Nicosia (AP): "Work on the Ottoman naval base continues and is | |progressing well. While the First Fleet remains stationed in the | |sensitive waters of the Aegean, the whereabouts of the Second Fleet | |remain classified. The Navy has admitted that sparring did take place | |with the Italians sometime last year, although there were no reported | |casualties on either side." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Sofia (UPI): "There was much rejoicing as Ottoman security forces | |restored order to Bulgaria at the end of last year. The Russian | |ambassador recently returned from the hospital, and now that Bulgaria | |is relatively secure, the hunt for the Thracian mercenaries resumes | |anew. The long period of inaction has given the thugs time to fortify | |the southern border, so negotiations between the Deputy Ambassador and | |the Russian Ambassadors at Bucharest and Budapest have led to a new | |plan of action. The southern defenses prevent a frontal assault from | |the south. Therefore, our forces can only assist a Tsarist attack from | |the north. Considering the fierce fighting that took place to restore | |order to Bulgaria, this also gives the troops a much needed rest." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Istanbul (AP): "The Grand Mullah of the new mosque has observed the | |deteriorating world situation with alarm, and has felt the need to | |address the world at large: `My friends, fellow Muslims and | |Christians, we view the recent French-Italian agreement with | |considerable concern. The implications show that these two countries | |are preparing a new Crusade of Catholic domination on the European | |continent. The fall of Protestant Britain and the incorporation of | |Catholic Austria are both telling signs. We must form a united front | |to stand against this newest threat of Catholic oppression. We trust | |that our relations with the Czar and the Patriarch of Russian Orthodoxy | |will remain in good standing. I have requested an urgent communique to | |our embassy in Berlin. The new understanding between Paris and Rome | |can only mean trouble to our German associates, and we hope the Kaiser | |stands with us.'" | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Pergamum (MUM): "Although our leaders cannot in good faith claim | |responsibility for recent goings-on, it is well known that opposition | |and resistance groups have delusions of grandeur. Therefore, we are | |claiming responsibility for the largest and most widespread press ban, | |covering the entire Continent, and lasting over a month. If it is | |necessary to shutdown watcsc again, our Mamluk martyrs are prepared to | |sacrifice their lives to disrupt all communications between the | |oppressor and the outside world." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Spring 1904 LE PARISIEN | | | | French fleet visits Piedmont Alps | |Marseilles - Three years after the successful cooperation in Piedmont | |between French and Italian workers, the French Naval command has | |ordered its third fleet to attend celebrations at certain places in | |that province. Admiral Jacques d'Avignon declared that "clearly this is | |not an aggressive act against Italy, as my fleet cannot reach anything | |important in Italy - we're here only for anniversary purposes." Unnamed | |sources claimed that the order was given out due to the paranoia of | |some high level staff members who fear the Italian army in Venice, but | |this was strongly denied by an official spokesman. "If we do meet | |Italian soldiers in Piedmont, however, we would need good explanations | |for that from the Pope." | | | | King Louis sends secret message to pope Sadis | |Paris - Yesterday our beloved king Louis LXXIV. sent His foreign | |minister Pierre C'estbon with an important message to pope Sadis I, the | |king's beloved ally in the Mediterranean. Unluckily not much of the | |contents of the message were revealed as it is a secret. However, | |information made it to this newspaper that the message expressed His | |concern over an Italian-Russian treaty. "We are quite sure that there | |will be no such treaty," a spokesman of the king said, "as Russia | |usually doesn't answer to foreign diplomatic notes..." | | | | Censorship on Winter press reduces Franco-German communication | |Paris - No information from the German Kaiser made it to Paris this | |autumn or winter; therefore, our beloved king had to make His decisions | |about how to help Germany on His own. "Since Germany didn't disagree, I | |ordered general Cava and his second army to the Ruhr to help Germany | |keep its homeland", the king announced to the press. "I surely hope | |that Germany will inform me as soon as possible about where and how to | |help." | | | | Scottish fleet heads for Norway | |Brest - Analysts from the French Naval staff have concluded from the | |Scottish movements "that President McBursk will try to reconquer Norway | |which was taken away from the terrorist government by Russian forces, | |allowing McBursk to keep his two units one more year." General Hulahup, | |whose army is moving north towards Scotland this year, announced that | |"this year we'll get Liverpool, and next year, the rest!" | | | | King Louis demands signs of live from Russian Czar | |Paris - After the reports from St. Petersburg about mass graves, our | |beloved king summoned the Russian ambassador to the Louvre to report. | |The ambassador insisted that the Czar is still alive and well in Moscow | |but could offer no proof, as he had had no communiques to home for more | |than a year. "We surely hope that the lack of information from Russia | |does not mean that its great and wise ruler, the Czar, is dead; killed | |by e.g. a revolution!" king Louis exclaimed. "To know whether Russia is | |friend (i.e. the Czar is still alive) or foe (i.e. anarchism rules | |Russia) I need some proof." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | EXTRA!! EXTRA!! EXTRA!! | | Spring 1904 THE PAPAL BULL 250 Lira | | "All the Propaganda we Deem Fit to Print" | | | | GERMAN KAISER OVERTHROWN | | Rome (IPS)- Although details are still sketchy at this hour, we have | |received word that to old German Kaiser has been removed from power and | |a new government installed. According to rumor, the Kaiser's | |long-winded speeches, reproduced in toto in the European newpapers, | |apparently drove an unknown assailant insane, and he proceeded to 'take | |care' of the Kaiser. Naturally, we here at the 'Bull suspect the | |Russians. They have always been shifty devious types anyhow. | | Pope Sadis I is expected to visit the new leader any day now, and he | |says that he expects that the new German government will be as | |favorable as the old one. Plans for our ambassador to visit Berlin | |have not been canceled. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Das Schlumf Berlin, Germany 20 pfennig | | | |Berlin (CNN) - The German Empire (er, Nation) has been reunited. There | |is no expectation of a resurgence of nationalism: All of the | |industries in the East are collapsing in the aftermath of the Russian | |occupation; the navy is in shambles, and soon will be non-existent; and | |the army, as we all know, poses no threat to peaceful, democratic | |countries. It is only there to keep the Russians from invading the | |West in case the current leadership in Moscow is usurped by a military | |dictatorship. Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit... | | | |The new Kaiser made a long, impassioned speech during which he made | |several graphic references to the state certain news editors would find | |themselves should they reproduce the speech in full. Excerpts | |(hopefully sufficiently concise) are presented below: | | | | "...and so I ask the Russian Tsar: uh, clue me in here! Am I the one | |that wants to fight you, or do you want to fight me? Neither makes | |sense. I'm pulling back and suing for peace. I haven't been around, | |so I don't really know what's going on, but here's how it looks to me: | | "Italy won't fight France for a while; he built an army! Can he use | |the army against Turkey? No! Is the army needed for defense? No! | |That leaves you as Italy's natural target. I suspect one army will | |hold off Turkey from Albania, and three will hit you. Should the Pope | |move an army into Tyrolia, things are already looking bad for you. | | "What about France's northern fleets? Once England is gone, they will | |have only one use: hurting you! You need to build fleets in the North, | |and soon, or Scandanavia will pay the price. In fact, France has such | |a jump that now may already be late. | | "You could try to eliminate me quickly, and hold off France and Italy | |simultaneously, but it looks like RT wouldn't have the centers to hold on. | |You need my help. And if France doesn't get a build this winter, I can | |really put paid to him. Provided you want peace too...." | | "...so I'm sorry for the ineptitude of my predecessor, Almighty Tsar! | |Enjoy Scandanavia. Get St. Petersburg back into the naval industry. | |Our armies can stick it to the naval powers, as long as we stick | |together." | ================================================================================ Date: Fri, 8 Mar 91 23:48:14 EST Fall deadline for orders and press is this Tuesday, 12 March 1991. There is no doubt that, even if everything goes wrong, at | |least one English unit will be destroyed in fall, and that the other is | |soon to follow. | | | | Relations between Germany and France cool down fast | |Paris - King Louis LXXIV., our beloved ruler, has expressed His great | |concern over the horrible change of mind in Germany. "I fear the new | |Kaiser is only a Russian puppet!" He exclaimed when He read the news | |from Germany. Part of the text | |follows: | | | | WHEREAS the Russian Tzar has refused to comply with the Italian | |request for neutrality in matters of Italian Foreign Policy, even | |going as far as to aid the enemy of both of our peoples, and | | WHEREAS the Russians were undeniably behind the death of the former | |Kaiser and his replacement with a 'more favorable government', and | | WHEREAS the Russian horde participated in the systematic looting of | |Austria to the point that the Italians were required to intervene; | | now THEREFORE, THE ITALIAN EMPIRE HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO MAKE THE | |FOLLOWING DEMANDS: | | 1) The cecessation of all hostilities between our two states, | |including support given to third parties directly involved with one of | |our states, | | 2) The evacuation of and surrender to the Italians of the cities | |of Vienna and Budapest, so that we might re-instate the former rulers, | | 3) Renumeration for past wrongs, including (but not limited to) two | |guarantees of support for Italian Armies in future years. | | 4) If these demands are not met by September 15th, this will be | |taken as a declaration of war between our two states. | | | | Currently, all eyes in Rome are watching Moscow for any sign of | |compliance. The general atmosphere in the city is one of jubliation, | |with cries of "Give it to the traitors" and "down with the Tzar" | |echoing through the streets. All we can do is wait for the 15th. | | | | Turks Blasted in Naval Clash | | Athens (IPS) In scenes reminicent of the battle of Lepanto, Admirial | |JC defeated the Turks off of the east coast of Greece and sent the | |Turkish dogs running back to their harbors. At 400 hours on March 15th | |Admirial JC, commanding the newly launched HPS Holy Avenger, | |intercepted a Turkish fleet off of the island of Rhodes. A fierce | |battle ensued in which over 25 Turkish vessels were sunk, with only one | |Italian vessel going down after being hit by friendly fire from the HPS | |Holy Avenger. This gave the Italians sole posession of the Aegean, | |whence they can strike at the very heart of the Turkish menace. | | | | Meanwhile, forces in Operation Mountain Shield were put on 'Alert 4', | |and it appears as if the ground attack will be inevitable. Hundreds | |of M1/2 Main Battle Wagons and B5.2 Hot air baloons are already at the | |front, and reinforcements are expected. | | | | Mayor of Genoa Welcomes French | | Genoa(IPS) The mayor of Genoa, who is responsible for the current | |peace between Italy and France because of his Alpine Project, welcomed | |the French Mediterranean Fleet into harbor last month with brass bands | |and a ticker-tape parade. In a speech later that night he explained | |that "there has always been a natural bond between our two Latin | |peoples - lingustic, moral, and spiritual - which allows us to put the | |utmost of faith in each other. These are hard times for our two | |nations, and we must stick together to fight the looming threat just | |over the horizion. Afterwards, the French headed out to | |sea again in the direction of France. | | | | History Professor Speaks On German/Italian Relation | | Venice(IPS) The noted historian Dr. Vicco gave a lecture yesterday | |on the historic relations between Germany and Italy and between Germany | |and Russia in the past three years. Most of the information he | |presented was in the form of excerpts from media coverage of events in | |the papers of Europe. Here are some of the quotes he used: | | | | "The Russian government rules Russia no longer....Fresh graveyards | |found near the former palace of the Czar revealed thousands of | |corpses." | | -"Germans Conquer St. Petersburg" | | New York Times, Fall 1903 | | | | "Russia is willing to discuss the prospect of joint victory with any | |country except Germany. Russia will avoid initating conflict with any | |country except Germany....We invite France and italy to help liberate | |territories belonging to the former Holy Roman Empire from Germanic | |barbarians..." | | -Moscow News, Autumn 1903 | | | | "Vith continued support from ze children of Italy, our advances into | |the eastern frontier will be victorious..." | | -Free German Press, Autumn 1903 | | | | From these, he summarised, there is an obvious historic link between | |the German and Italian people which must not be abandoned because of a | |fluke of regime. | ================================================================================ Date: Tue, 12 Mar 91 22:11:06 EST England becomes our second casualty (real soon now). And nowhere was the gossip as zesty and unpredictable as | |Berlin itself. Some excerpts: | | | |It is whispered in dark corners that von Wollheim assassinated his | |predecessor by planting a time bomb in his dog Muschi. The Pope, | |acting on those rumors, has released a proclamation condemning such | |acts as "clearly antithetical to the teachings of Christ, and gross | |besides." Such statements have led the new Kaiser to be tagged "Der | |Grosse." | | | |It is speculated that Willhelm suffers from deep-seated Francophobia, | |dating back to a crushing rejection by his youthful paramour | |Mademoiselle DuSang. "She is behind this all," the Kaiser is rumored | |to have said. "She has seduced the French commander-in-cheif into | |invading Western Germany, while throwing dust into the eyes of the | |French government about 'helping our ally.' Pfa! Those pig-dogs with | |the sinus infection! I should have strangled that Mimi the first time | |she slapped me." | | | |Kaiser Willy is rumored to have had a falling out with his half-sister | |Ilke von Ekle. It is murmured that Ilke has threatened to "tell Mom" | |if Berlin falls. No one seemed to know what would happen in this | |eventuality, but "Mutti" has been known to send naughty Kaisers to | |their rooms for three seasons. | | | |Most sinsiter of all the flying gossip was that Wilhelm der Grosse's | |advisers had persuaded him to make strategically ruinous diplomatic and | |military maneuvers in order to whip up support for a popular | |revolution. Herr Doktor Professor Commandant Ernst zu Nehmen IV | |appears to be the mastermind behind this movement. All experts | |questioned agreed that a second revolution in as many months would | |leave the situation in complete chaos. "Nobody can tell what would | |happen then," said Herr Nehmen, "but it would not matter for long. The | |Pope assures me that the second coming is nearly at hand." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |For Immediate Release: | | | |The Czar has agreed to the formation of a Russo/Turkish/German alliance | |and proposes a 3-way R/T/G victory agreement. | | | |Russia agrees to cooperate fully with future Turkish and German | |operations as they are communicated to us. | | | |The Russian ambassador to Rome was spotted by the press after a night | |of heavy drinking, relieving himself against the wall of the Italian | |dictator's palace. When asked to explain his behavior, Mr. Yeltsin | |said, "What do I know of such things? I'm just a Russian peasant. | |Anyway we'll own this place soon. We'll clean up the mess then." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |((Fall edition)) | | *Muenchen Stern* | | | |The French media, chafing under the iron hand of state censorship, have | |leaked the following report to the Muenchen Stern (The Stern Munchkin): | | | | Minister's Niece is General's Mistress! | | | |The French Foreign Minister Pierre C'estbon once again found himself | |embroiled in scandal about his irrepressible niece Mademoiselle Mimi | |DuSang. The French public was horrified, although not much surprised | |at the news, given Mlle Dusang's affair some ten years ago with | |Willhelm von Wollheim, at that time a lowly veterinarian in the | |Kaiser's army. | | | |But that was long before the war, when the only disgrace of the whole | |affair was the sheer revulsion all good French citizens feel at the | |thought of a young Parisienne even touching a filthy Kraut. Now the | |concern of the populace is much deeper, as it concerns the very | |competence of their foreign minister. | | | |After the initial incident, DuSang "settled down as a nurse" at an | |obscure insane asylum in on the western coast of France. At least, so | |the government news releases would have had us believe. The truth that | |many suspected, but few dared repeat in public, was that Mimi herself | |was being kept under lock and key to avoid further embarrassment to | |Mssr C'estbon and the good King Louis LXXIII, of whom she was also a | |distant relative. | | | |Most Frenchmen would gladly have heard no more of the wicked Mlle | |DuSang, but alas, the war appears to have distracted the previously | |watchful eye of the government's Internal Security Division. Only a | |week after the bizarre coup that brought the current Kaiser Willhelm | |von Wollheim to unchallenged authority in Germany, rumors sprouted like | |thistle that DuSang had escaped. M C'estbon vigorously denied the | |rumors, but many observers were unconvinced that the former chief of | |the asylum had been brutally executed for "failing to trim grass three | |years running." | | | |And then, just weeks ago as war in the East began to appear inevitable, | |Andre Pardon, a lowly enlisted man in the Second Army now stationed in | |the Ruhr, alleged in front of war correspondents that DuSang was | |sleeping with his commander, General Cava. (Apparently Pardon had | |fallen for Mlle DuSang, and took his rejection badly. Our sources have | |been unable to confirm by press time whether, in fact, Pardon is a | |veterinarian.) | | | |Such a story, obviously embarassing to C'estbon and to the Internal | |Security Division (InSecurity for short), was denied and suppressed | |even before it could be printed. The name of the reporter has been | |withheld at his request, for fear of government reprisals. Foreign | |Minister C'estbon was quoted as saying "No problem, no problem. | |InSecurity will get to the bottom of these malicious rumors. Then we | |will spank that bottom." | | | |(release ends) | | | |We at the Muenchen Stern submit this report as evidence of our beloved | |Kaiser's shrewd political analysis. He has seen to the bottom of the | |French soul, and will lead us to a smashing victory over those | |despicable cheese-makers. | | | | *Berliner Zeit* | | | |With the removal of Kaiser Willhelm's army from Berlin city, all | |semblance of order has disappeared. Throngs of flag-waving citizens | |have been cheering from dawn to dusk, singing songs about beer and | |marching. And in the midst of all this chaos, the emerging political | |situation appears to be controlled by a tenuous alliance between Herr | |Professor Doktor Reichs- Marshall Ernst zu Nehmen IV and the | |half-sister of the Kaiser, Ilke von Ekle. | | | |One of Ilke's first acts in the political limelight was to grant an | |extensive interview to the Berliner Zeit (Time for Jelly Doughnuts). | |Some excerpts follow: | | | |"My brother is entirely off his rocker. He's practically off the | |porch! He was installed only with the help of Russian agents, but he's | |too blind to know. He has left our city defenseless. What will we do | |when the Russians invade?" | | | |"He is a fool, an imbecile, a moron, and a dunce. The people of | |Germany hate him. Did you know that men are getting rich selling 'Burn | |the Kaiser in Effigy' kits? If he did not control the army, and the | |army didn't control the press, he would not live two days." | | | |"Willy is obsessed with hurting the French. Every night he has French | |windows installed in his Munich mansion, and every morning he smashes | |them by tossing through French Poodles. And the poodles are dead | |beforehand, drowned in French dressing. Gross, if you ask me." | | | |The Zeit has also managed a short interview with Herr Nehmen, in which | |it became apparent that, aside from a profound loathing of the Kaiser, | |he has little in common with von Ekle. He spoke of a "second coming" | |in terms quite mystical and obscure. It is speculated that he longs | |for the return of his brother Matthius, taken prisoner by the Russians | |in the Eastern Campaign. How and why this transfer might take place | |remains a mystery. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Fall 1904 THE PAPAL BULL 250 Lira | | "Offical Organ of Catholicism Everywhere" | | | | Italy Declaes War on Russia | |Vatican(VD) Pope Sadis I, at a press conference, announced that the | |15th of September has passed and the Russians have still not complied | |with the reasonable demands presented to them by Ambassador | |Machiavelli. There is no recourse now but to declare war on these | |peoples who wish nothing but war and the destruction of the true | |faith. "It was the Russians who chose war, and it is they who will | |suffer", states His Holiness. | | | |Currently, troops are massing on the Viennese border, and an attack | |appears imminent, although no one seems to know exactly when it will | |occur. | | | | Italians Continue Relentless Struggle Against Turks | |Athens(IPS) On September 15th Field Marshal Romulus announced the | |launching of Operation Mountain Storm to coincide with the failure of | |the russians to meet our most reasonable demands. Currently B5.2 | |bombers are carring our dangerous carpet bombing missions in Bulgaria, | |and there are even reports of Constantinople (the real name of our | |beloved city, not Istanbul) being his by bombs. From the front there | |is news of border clashes on the Bulgarian frontier, and Admirial | |Julius Ceaser has pulled the HPS Holy Avenger within miles of the coast | |and is shelling positions, obviously preparing for a ground assault. | |There have also been rumors of a front-wide assault in Bulgaria and | |reports of a Turkish counter-attack, all unconfirmed. | | | |Losses so far have been light with no Italian casulties reported in the | |last 24 hours. Italian fighter ballons have downed 25 Turkish flying | |carpets. | | | | Second Franco-Italian Friendship Day a Big Success | |Genoa(IPS) This years Second Annual Franco-Italian Friendship Day | |coincided with the awarding of the Vatican Peace Prize, which was given | |to the French. Because of their efforts to maintain stability in the | |north and their move to put down the German Rebellion which disposed of | |the Kaiser, the French won this coveted award. After this | |announcement, the Friendship Day celebrations were a blast, with wine | |and pasta for all. Pope Sadis I, who personally bestowed the VPP upon | |the French recipiant stated that, "The union of our peoples will take | |us to victory over the infidel who wish to crush us!" | | | |Later in the evening, drunken students went on a rampage and | |unfortunately destroyed the house of the Russian Ambassador. The | |heroes are still at large, and the police are continuing to hunt for | |them (to give them medals, no doubt!) | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Fall 1904 LE PARISIEN | | | | Germany tricked by Russians? Survival doubted | |Brussels - The new German Kaiser has announced he is going to fight | |France, a source from Berlin reported yesterday. The Belgian president | |Hercule Poirot, however, denied that any such information has reached | |the Belgian government. "We do wonder what Germany expects from its | |future, giving away home provinces like Silesia or Prussia. Maybe they | |no longer want Holland," he said on a press conference; "therefore | |France is going to try to fill the vacuum of power there. I really do | |not know how Germany can hope to survive now that its big eastern | |neighbour concentrates its troops at the very edge of German home | |centres! The great leader of the French people had offered his help, | |but instead of taking the chance, Germany made hostile moves toward | |France. I spoke to both Italian and French diplomats, and they all | |agreed that Germany's only chance to survive is to cooperation with | |them. But if the Kaiser doesn't make up his mind very quick, he's | |subject to be cleaned by Russian troops, who will not be hindered by | |France in this case." | | | | Russia speaking again! Peace with Germany? | |Paris - Our beloved king Louis LXXIV. showed great relief upon learning | |that Russia expressed its thoughts once more. "We do not want war with | |Russia, and its expansion into Germany seems right, in the light of | |facts presented by the new Kaiser. It seems this guy is completely | |unable to analyse the situation his country is in. Russia is going to | |slam him and he's making funny threats against ME! If this doesn't | |change in winter we will consider full cooperation with Russia to | |remove all German units from the map in the next 2 years - at most! | |Just to show the Kaiser what he will be getting from his hazardous | |politics, We decided that Holland will be considered a French province | |from now on and that any non-French units there will be considered | |hostile until further notice. We do not claim any German territory for | |Us unless the German politics continue to be as hostile towards France | |as they are now." He continued by stating that He sees no need for a | |Russian-French war unless "unmotivated attacks on French units from | |Russia take place, of course!" | | | | Will Italy go to war with Russia? | |Marseille - French Catholicism experts are still analyzing the | |ultimatum put up against Russia by the great leader of the great | |Italian nation, the great pope Sadis I. "If Russia does indeed stop its | |attacks on Germany, we will know that Russia has a new puppet; in this | |case WE will go for Germany unless the Kaiser regains his sanity!" an | |insider said. "As we see it, Russia will not give in to the Italian | |'ideas' and therefore a war between them might be near. France will not | |take sides in such a war before Germany and Russia made their | |intentions clear, but our beloved king might not wait forever! We do | |not know whether the Italian step was made a bit too early since Turkey | |has still to be dealt with, but since the Russian-Turkish relations | |seem to cool down, maybe Turkey's days are numbered..." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Istanbul (AP): "The Sultan held a personal audience with the Russian | |ambassador this week apologizing for the Ottoman role in the Serbian | |mishap in the spring. The Defense Minister, in a prepared press | |statement, reported, `We have assured our Tsarist friends that our | |western forces will be moving, in this our third year against the | |Thracian menace. Once we have outflanked Thrace from the north, we | |will be prepared to descend on Salonika in full force from land and | |sea, and wipe out their Papist military support.' The Sultan also | |added that he was very pleased to hear of the recent pact between the | |Tsar and the Kaiser." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Nicosia (UPI): "The Ottoman Defense Minister is making a strategic | |gamble by placing the burden of homefront defense on our navy while our | |Balkan land forces position themselves for the upcoming assault on | |Thrace. The Acting Commander of the His Royal Highness' First Fleet | |has been thrust into the crucial position of protecting both the new | |naval base at Cyprus as well as the main homefront base in Smyrna. | |Meanwhile, his Second Fleet counterpart, regrouping his forces after | |the hasty retreat from the Aegean, will oversee defensive positions | |around the capital." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Sofia (AP): "After a year's rest and recuperation, Ottoman western | |security forces are preparing for the main assault on the Thracian | |fortress in Serbia. The Russian ambassador to Bulgaria, having | |recovered from the joint assassination attempt that took the life of | |the last Ottoman consul, reported back to his embassy earlier last | |month, and has been coordinating operations with his adjutant in | |Budapest. We expect this sector to soon fall under the joint | |jurisdiction of the White Navy and the Ottoman Third Fleet as White | |destroyers and cruisers stand by to assist the transition in the event | |of an Italian attack." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Pergamum (MUM): "Our agents have begun preliminary talks with the | |Thracians in hopes of opening full relations between two oppressed | |peoples. No further word has been reported on the success or failure | |of this venture." | ================================================================================ Date: Sat, 16 Mar 91 1:42:26 EST To those of you who were wondering about England's Fall suicide, he was under the impression that it was a Spring turn and intended to blitz Brest in the "Fall". The Russian plan now is to help Germany and Turkey get more | |centers from France and Italy. | | | |Russia requests precise instructions from Germany and Turkey about | |which German and Turkish units, if any, Russia is expected to support | |this spring. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Autumn 1904 LE PARISIEN | | | | Great Britain fully liberated | |London - In a bombastic ceremony King Louis LXXIV., beloved ruler of | |France, was crowned king of Great Britain too in Westminster Abbey. In | |His speech to His people he stated that "after the complete destruction | |of the terrorist government (which seems to have made kind of suicide | |this fall) law and order will return to all of Britain under my | |ruling!". Hundred thousands of London citizens cheered King Louis all | |through the night. | | | | German press tells lies about French leaders | |Paris - Jean-Luc Blabla, the information minister, demented all German | |press propaganda published in the last months. "This shows even more | |the sick state Germany's leaders are in now" he declared. "We still do | |hope for another change of the ruling people in Germany so the | |longlasting peace between France and Germany can be reestablished. King | |Louis has decided to give Germany one more chance and join the | |French-Italian alliance against the evil from the east. It will all be | |clear after we see what unit Germany is going to disband. If it is one | |of its western armies, i.e. Holland or Ruhr, we will know Germany is | |our friend again; in such a case King Louis has agreed to cancel all | |attack plans onto Germany. In all other cases, France will fight the | |Russian puppet Wilhelm ((sic)) "der kleine" together with the great | |people from Italy." | | | | Italy at war with Russia | |Paris - The French government has released a press note saying that as | |a friend of Italy it will use any opportunity to support the Pope. | |Rumors say that the French fleet in the Med may be given to Italian | |commanders to support their attacks. However no details were revealed | |and the French naval command seems still be waiting for a request from | |Rome. It is said that no actions will be taken without explicit | |requests from Italy's famous naval leader admiral Julius Caesar ((sic)). | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Istanbul (UPI): "The Defense Minister denied reports that he has | |employed the services of independent flying carpet companies in the | |ongoing jihad against the Papacy. `This is just evidence to show that | |not even the Italian press authorities can be trusted. Flying carpets | |have absolutely no military value whatsoever. Furthermore, we cannot | |permit the armed forces to hold a monopoly on this precious luxury. | |The air war is a myth. The skies around our beloved capital have been | |clear for millenia, and we find it amusing that the Italians could ever | |think it would be otherwise.' In other news, the Defense Minister | |congratulated the Germans on their success in ousting the last French | |units from German soil." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Nicosia (AP): "The new Commander of the Ottoman First Fleet was | |formerly appointed today, and his first order of business was to report | |on the naval defenses along the western and southern coastlines. `Our | |defensive preparations last season remain untested as the Italians | |chose to focus their attack, once again, on our beloved client-state of | |Bulgaria. However, our preliminary victory against the Thracian | |fortress at Belgrade has allowed us to raise another fleet from our | |original naval base on the Black Sea. We foresee the ouster of the | |Italians from the Aegean. Nevertheless, since we chose to disengage | |our naval offensive operations last season, it is quite possible that | |this naval base will see Italian fleets offshore soon. This should | |pose no threat to the homeland.'" | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Sofia (UPI): "As expected, Thracian rebels, backed by Papist military | |advisors, launched another attack last season. We thank our Tsarist | |friends to the north for their assistance in maintaining our collective | |security. The Italian attack prevented the planned transition, and | |though we sit in peace now, we currently have neither Ottoman nor White | |garrison to protect us from further Italian aggression. We hope the | |Tsar's fleet will provide the same support next season until we have a | |Turkish naval garrison firmly entrenched on our south coast." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Belgrade (AP): "Ottoman western security forces based in Bulgaria | |reported initial success in taking the Thracian mercenary fortress | |here. However, the Ottoman general warned, `We cannot begin to | |celebrate yet. The Papist military backers still remain, and we should | |expect a counterattack next year. In the meantime, we will remain on | |guard and are prepared to help break the Italian front by assisting the | |Russians against the Adriatic province of Trieste.' During the winter | |season, plans are underway to strengthen defensive works on the western | |border with Albania, and to try to maintain security in Kosovo, the | |border region. Reports of Italian infiltration in this area remain | |unconfirmed, but not unexpected." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Ankara (AP): "The recent victory against the Thracian fortress was met | |with celebrations this year in the original naval city. The security | |we have temporarily secured in the Balkans has enabled us to direct our | |resources to recommission our mothballed Fourth Fleet. In related | |news, the local naval commandant has submitted a request to White | |Southern Fleet HQ at Sevastopol for free passage in the Black Sea in | |order to help support operations in Bulgaria." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Pergamum (MUM): "We feel for our Thracian counterparts who have | |battled three years valiantly against the oppressor. Sadly, our own | |couriers were killed in the vicious fighting. Due to the recent | |upsurge in nationalism, we do not have the available resources to send | |another courier team at this time." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Istanbul (AP): "An unconfirmed source within the Ottoman Intelligence | |League (OIL) has uncovered a French plot to abduct the Tsarina. No | |further information available at this time." | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Pardon Flees to Germany! | |Andre Pardon, veterinarian in the French First Army, was granted asylum | |yesterday by Kaiser Willhelm. M Pardon was forced to flee for his | |life, after having betrayed his commander, General Cava. It seems that | |InSecurity nearly caught him at the border, but he was rescued by a | |dramatic cavalry charge. | | | |"Sure," Andre said, "I know I am a traitor for leaking the orders given | |to my army. But it was worth it to see them humiliated. I hope Cava | |is kicked all the way back to Paris." Andre Pardon's treachery helps | |explain how Kaiser Willhelm, a noted military buffoon, was able to | |trounce the French so easily. "You don't have to fight smart to win," | |said the Kaiser. "You just have to fight dirty." | | | | Russo-Belgian Communication Intercepted! | | | |The following dispatch from Hercule Poirot was intercepted by German | |spies before it could reach the Czar: | | | |Most noble and exalted Czar, I humbly crave your audience. The message | |I have to give is of utmost importance to yourself and the well-being | |of all your territories. What, you may ask, can an insignificant | |country of Phlegms have to contribute to such a grand and mighty nation | |such as yours? I respond: There is only one Hercule Poirot! | | | |The grand and powerful may play by 'instinct' or 'gut feeling' or some | |such nonsense. My people, who are weak, we must use the little grey | |cells. We do not guess the strategies of our opponents - we deduce | |them! We do not merely suppose - we know! This is the power of | |orderly thinking. | | | |Alas that the light of reason does not reveal a happier future to us | |in these dark times. The pall of war hangs over all Europe, and now | |immediately over my beloved home. Indeed, unless reason can persuade | |the Czar, one year from now will see the end of the benevolent French | |occupation of my homeland. The German armies, now poised on the very | |brink of invasion, will overrun Belgium like thieves in the night. | |This is not a matter of probablities (unless 100% is named a | |probalility). It can be deduced as a certainty. | | | |It is, therefore, imperative that you, most honorable one, relinquish | |the North Sea voluntarily to King Louis LXXIV. He cannot take it | |immediately by force, but he is prepared to deal mercifully with those | |who respect his desires. If the North Sea returns to the sway of | |France, then the safety of Belgium is assured. | | | |Yes, my little grey cells, they spin a broad web. Logic is more | |powerful even than fear, because some men are brave, but none can | |escape the shackles of reason. I beg the Czar to put his own capacities | |to work, and see the inevitability of what I say. | | | |(Kaiser Willhelm von Wohlheim's addendum to the dispatch.) | | | |Curse that pompous litte Belgian! I will have no mercy when his | |country is subjugated to my rule. But if he is nothing else, he is | |intelligent. I therefore ask, as Kaiser and your ally, that you do the | |exact opposite of his bidding. Please, under no circumstance, move out | |of the North Sea voluntarily, even to take London. Poirot will yet pay | |for his scheming! | | | | Herr Nehmen and Fraeulein von Ekle Flee Berlin! | |Berlin, having drifted from joyful rioting to pitched street fighting, | |evidently became too dangerous for the tastes of Herr Doktor Professor | |Reichsmarshall Ernst zu Nehmen IV and his political ally, Ilke von | |Ekle. Both are reputed to have fled to a battleship in the Kaiser's | |Navy in the Gulf of Bothnia. Where they intend to go from there is not | |entirely clear. Some speculate that they will bring the fleet to bear | |directly on Berlin in an effort to restore order in our troubled city. | | | |Meanwhile, the stacatto sound of small-arms fire has become a daily | |occurrence in the city. Few who are not of the political elite have | |the option of fleeing where they will. The mood in the city has | |shifted from jubilation at the expected arrival of Russian troops, (and | |subsequent death of the Kaiser), to a general sense of cynicism and | |betrayal. | | | |Those who yet have the will to fight seem to be polarizing into two | |camps, the Loyalists and the Not-So-Loyalists. It is unclear who has | |the upper hand, or why they would want to have it. The normal | |functions of the city, particulary sewage disposal, have moved from | |sporadic to non-existent. The ever-popular German expression | |(Scheisse) has become particularly appropriate of late. | | | | Kaiser Chokes French POW's! | |Word has leaked from the prison camps of Kaiser Willhelm der Grosse's | |army that he personally choked two French military prisoners on Belgian | |waffles. "And your country will choke on the alliance as well!", von | |Wohlheim was heard to say. An eyewitness to the event could find no | |other comment than "Gross." | | | | Democratic Referendum Announced! | |The following ballots are being distributed this week across all of | |Germany: | | | |All citizens of the German Empire are required to do their civic | |democratic duty, and vote on the question "Who, of all the European | |Powers, writes the best press?" Mark only one. Use only a checkmark, | |as 'X' is not a valid mark. Return your ballot to your local polling | |station. Vote early; vote often. | | | | Who, of all the European Powers, writes the best press? | | | | [] Germany | | | | Thank you for participating in the democratic process. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Autumn 1904 THE PAPAL BULL 250 Lira | | "Papal Press at its Finest" | | | | War With Russian Success | |Trieste (IPS) Italian forces stormed Vienna yesterday and liberated it | |from the Russian occupying force, but the curent defensive position in | |the city is tenuous at best. Russians surround the city on all sides | |and are preparing to counter-attack; but, "We have a suprise in store | |for them," according to Field Marshal Romulus. On the southern front, | |the Italian forces have sprung an ingenious trap, and we have the Turks | |right where we want them. It won't be long before both military forces | |are crushed under the Italian jackboot. | | | | Genoan Mayor Requests Return Visit | |Genoa (VD) The mayor of Genoa has requested that the French navy return | |to the Piedmont area in the spring, as they were a smash success during | |their last visit to the city. This would greatly boost our forces' | |morale and help secure Italy as well. | | | | Paper Shortage in Italy | |Rome (IPS) Due to a paper shortage in Italy, the amount of copy which | |the 'Bull' can print has been severly limited. We apologize for the | |shortness of the press, and hope that the situation can be rectified in | |the coming months. | ================================================================================ ??? I have been approached by the leader of the current french government, to enter into an alliance. Enemies of the French government - beware! To this end, I am obligated to act upon Germany's aggressive stance towards my neighbour and ally, France, as well as to bolster her shores against possible attacks. Therefore I urge the war-mongers to resist the temptation for petty land gains. Yours, the Italian Commander.
