Endgame Statements: England: yes, yes, rejoice rejoice :-) Ok, and now for the serious EndGame Report: When I took over as England, I was in a very tough position. Russia had a fleet in the North Sea, and France had a fleet in the English Channel. I was also on the verge of losing Norway. Well, I took a chance and gambled that I could not save Norway anyways, so I decided to kick Russia out of the North Sea. France agreed to help me. Meanwhile, I tried to ply Germany into some kind of a deal, but he refused. Through a couple of mistakes by the first France, and because of the constant change in Italy, France's fortunes took a turn for the worse, and as a result, my bargaining position looked weaker. So I moved into Helgoland to force Germany's hand. At the same time Austria moved into Russia, forcing Russia to abandon her Northern goals. Germany and I made a deal, whereby I was able to take Sweden and Norway, if I moved out of Helgoland. Being trusting, I moved, and Germany, naturally, moved into Sweden. Then we had a change of Russian players, and the new Russian inadvertently told me that Germany hoped to bounce with me in Norway, so that I would get no builds, Germany would get one, and Russia only lose one. It was a good plan, except that Germany told the new Russian that Russia had already lost BOTH Norway and Sweden, and Russia relayed that information to me. Anyways, I gambled again that Russia was not making this all up, and that Germany intended on reneiging on our latest deal (where he moved out of Sweden to Denmark). So I went for Sweden and Denmark. If I guessed wrong and Germany did as he said, he'd have gotten what he wanted. All of a sudden, I was a 5-centre power. But, by this time, France was in real trouble. The German-Italian alliance was killing him. So Prez Quayle proposed an ideal way to keep Italy out of the Mid Atlantic. It involved him convoying an army to London, which he'd then disband. He'd have a fleet in Ech, a fleet in Por, and my fleet in MAO would keep Italy out of MAO forever. But we could not do this as Germany battered me again in Scandanavia. Meanwhile Italy and I forged an agreement in which he'd help me get Germany. In the end, Italy's stab of Germany, forced Germany to pull back from England, just when he had me beaten. Fortuitous? I'd think so, but I'd like to think that my diplomatic abilities had something to do with it ;-). Germany then gave me Denmark to get me to 7 centres, and join the class of superpower. I was just about to start pushing Italy back to the Mediterranean, when the game ended. If the game had not been constantly delayed by late players and replacements, this would have been an excellent game. To everyone who managed to hang around till the end, good game. Prez Quayle, sorry about the stab in Portugal, but I needed Italian help to stop Germany, and that was the only way I could get it. Anyways, I'll catch ya all in other games. Prime Minister Anand/England/Berlin (draw YES!) Austria: I want to appologize for all the times that I have been late, however I was not the only offender. To Italy: I don't think I would have stabbed you, and I definatly wouldn't have done it anytime soon. I think we could have at least had a two way draw. I think I would have been able to bring you down with me, probably allowing Germany or England to win. To Germany: You were right Italy was about to stab me, I should have listened to you. You probably would have won if I could have brought Italy down with me. To Turkey: If you remember I had offered to be your ally before Italy and I decided to destroy you. If you had agreed we could have taken out Italy, and Russia together, and maybe had a good shot at winning the game. - Elliott elliott@bunker.UUCP ...!{ philabs | yale | oliveb | decvax | iscuva }!bunker!elliott Summer '13 of the game EL ALAMEIN (BNC number 1990O) (GM is grant@portia.stanford.edu/Grant Kalinowski) Austria : odear@uncvx1.bitnet/Bob Odear England : jfeldhouse@miavx3.bitnet/Jim Feldhouse France : j_oregan%csvax1@iruccvax.ucc.ie/John Aidan O'Regan Germany : norrish@st1.vuw.ac.nz/Michael Norrish Italy : cidx@vax5.cit.cornell.edu/Paul Davis Russia : cwekx@htikub5.bitnet/Constantijn Wekx Turkey : fqoj@cornella.bitnet/Roger Jagoda Date: Thu, 10 Jan 91 20:28:51 -0800 I still haven't heard from England about either the draw or anything else. Thanks, Trevor Green Date: Thu, 7 Feb 91 0:51:27 EST GOODBYE BLUE SKY is back on the air! Sorry everyone. The machine that was watcsc is now irreparably lobotomized and currently spends its time sitting in a corner humming quietly to itself. Fortunately, a similar machine was found to replace it. It is in fact slightly CPU-enhanced, but to make up for that the outside link is perilously slow. Also in the transfer, all my files were wiped. This means that not only do I not have your moves, but I don't know what the board looks like or even what turn it is. For this reason, I would like you to each send me the latest move result you received, together with your next move, and I will work things from there. Apologies for not re-starting on time: there was nothing to be done, but I hope none of you are too dismayed. Let's get this show back on the road. Trevor Green P.S. It *is* Spring 1904-ish isn't it?
