And high government officials know they exist but have been keeping this knowledge top secret. Here is the Untold Story: Years ago, when the alien-broadcast program began, government scientists decided to broadcast a message that would be simple, yet would convey a sense of love, universal peace, and brotherhood: "Have a nice day." They broadcast this message over and over, day after day, year after year, until one day they got an answer: Dear Earth Persons: Okay. We are having a nice day. We also have a number of extremely sophisticated weapons, and unless you start broadcasting something more interesting, we will reduce your planet to a very warm object the size of a child's bowling ball. I just got moves from an alternate account of his, so I'm hoping we've found a reliable path. Only three units moved this turn, but a lot of action was in the Spring, which means everybody has something to do this Winter. Three players have builds, and three have disbands. There were no retreats this season, so we'll go straight for the Winter 1904 turn. Please have your moves for Winter in by Monday, April 29, at 1 pm PDT. If you need more time than this to plan things out, let me know ASAP. And thanks to France for submitting press this turn! All press and other such commentary is welcome and especially fitting at the end of each year (hint, hint). *************** The Paris Gazzette: ------------------ Liberation of Rome Imperiled The recent liberation of Rome from Italian subterfuge and anarchists may be threatened by a host of renegade Italian Catholics. Last spring, Roman citizens welcomed ships of the French 1st Fleet with open arms and flowers, as they sailed up the Tiber supported by the French troops in Tuscany. The Pope pronounced a special blessing upon these "brave sons" of the church, in a Mass held expressly to celebrate the liberation of the city. However, all this may be endangered if recent reports can be believed. Even though the Italian government called upon all its military to peacefully lay down their arms and co-operate with "the fellow Catholics from the north, come to stabilize the region", certain renegade elements of the Italian military appear still to be under the influence of foreign power(s). Agents have reported that these elements will attempt to displace the 1st Fleet from Rome. All of this in spite of the fact that the Pope has threatened excommunication of any individuals or groups of individuals making such an attempt. Though gov't authorities have been quite silent on their plans, our military consultant says the best strategy may be for the 1st Fleet to come out and meet the Italian fleet in the Tyrrhenian Sea, rather than passively defend against an assault from that quarter. Though this rash move risks the loss of Rome, it is hoped that God will bless the efforts of his earthly servants. Much speculation is currently being made as to which foreign power is behind the efforts of the renegade Italian forces. His Holiness himself has suggested Lutherans based in Vienna, yet it is not out of the question that the influence oiginates from the distant Kremlin of the Russian "Empire". The Czar is rumored to have been seen fleeing for his life from British forces. A string of reports of his appearance have rippled down from Moscow, to Sevastopol where he again fled -- this time from Turks -- and then over to claim the protection of Austrian army units in Rumania. From there the Austrians, growing tired of the Czar's "boorish ways" apparently handed him over to members of the Italian military. Most recently he was sighted "heaving his guts out" over the side of an Italian ship in the Ionian Sea. . . . . . . ****************************************************************************** To join in the fun, send your name, home address, home and work phone numbers, and country preferences to Eric_S_Klien@cup.portal.com. ****************************************************************************** If you don't own Diplomacy, you can buy it at your local hobby store or from Avalon Hill directly.
