I apologize again, when I took the game on I thought I would be able to see it through to a conclusion. Good luck in playing it out with the new GM!! There should not have to be much of a delay, but I should remind everyone that you will want to notify the NEW GM of your planned vacations in the next few weeks. I have at least one other note that will follow this one. In particular, that's a history of the entire set of players and supply center counts; note that some of the midgame history is missing. Maybe Richard Lamb, the only original player, could update the new GM on the missing info? Gee, I've been in postal games that have been shorter than this one... as you may or may not know, my primary playing and publishing activity is in the postal Diplomacy world. If anyone would like information on it, let me know, I'll be active on the network through next Wednesday. Thanks to all of you for being patient with my first fits and starts of GMing on the electronic mails... Obviously, it's not so easy for any of you to see that there might be, (limited information is the name of the game), but if soemthing seems wrong, let me know, and I can check up on it. I'll be sending out a press file in just a little while. Michael Date: Thu, 6 Jun 91 09:14:13 +1200 Submitted press: (Vienna, spring 1901) The newly elected emperor of Austrian-Hungary has announced a "Save-the-World-from-itself-tour". The famous Kaiser has plans to start his tour in Vienna and to move up the 'gameboard' to Berlin, London and Paris, to give his finally performance in the Roman Colloseum. (Budapest, spring 1901) The Austrian-Hungarian emperor will be visiting Budapest at the end of this month, according to a spokesman of the royal staff. He intends to stay there for a week, and will be back at the beginning of July. Later on that month, he'll travel through Europe and pay a visit to empress Adriana who will live in Varna (Bulgaria) during this summer. (Innsbruck, spring 1901) The members of the first Tyrolian army, vacationing in Vienna, were called back to service due to the surprise Italian uprising. "We are not yet in a state of war", said the commander, general Schwarzkopf, "but we feel the need for defensive positioning. We will be conducting training drills on a regular basis and we intend to be fully prepared for whatever is thrown at us!" (Linz, spring 1901) Foreign minister Gross was extremely pleased by the Russian and Turkish troup movements. "This is a monumental moment," he said. "Long live the RAT Triple alliance!" (Belgrade, spring 1901) The nationalist uprising in Serbia, Kosova and Vojvodina have been crushed. The government of the empire of Austria and Apostolic Kingdom of Hungary is pleased to have an endless supply of Serbian slivovic. (Tirana, spring 1901) Fleets may come and fleets may go. But the Austrian-Hungarian empire will stay forever! (Ankara, spring 1901) The Austrian-Hungarian embassador payed a visit to 'his brother' Sultan Anand. "I am sure old buddy Anand will support the Austrian emperor's idea of a nuclear free Balkan", he said. "Constantijn and Anand always ally." (Moscow, spring 1901) At a huge celebration party thrown at the Czar's summer palace, the representatives of Russia and Austria- Hungary agreed on a non-aggression pact, with possible free wodka supply in the future. Yo ho! England rules the wave! Here's a word from our sponsor: England -> France: Feel free to hammer Germany. England -> Germany: Look out Snoopy, here I come! England -> Russia: Stay out of Norway, you stupid twit! England -> Italy: Stay where you are! Don't move! England -> Austria: Cheers! England -> Turkey: What has been keeping you busy lately? Enjoy. Michael Date: Thu, 6 Jun 91 15:44:50 +1200 Larry asks in his orders submission, (thanks for getting them in so early), whether we will have separate Winter turns. Unless there are violent objections to this idea, I would suggest that we should do this. Things are undoubtedly complicated enough as it is for you people without the added strain of trying to predict board situations in order to be able to come up with good retreat and build orders. If so, this is truly a tragic day for Italy. JC will be sorely missed in the final assault on Turkey, and when we crush the Turks, ew will rename turkey JCland in honor of the Admirial. Trieste Smashed Venice (IPS) - Right across the border from the once proud city of trieste all that can be seen now is smoke and rubble as the Russian hordes loot and burn all of the cities treasures. The russian hord will be rolled back, but Turkey will be crushed first. We are calling on all art and peace loving nations of the world to assist in crushing this menace in the East. The must be stopped. Former Kaiser Sighted in Italy Dressed only in rags, half-starved, and with bloody feet, ex-Kaiser Willhelm von Wollheim was rescued by alert Italian agents who had infiltrated Tyrolia on the heels of the departure of the occupying Russian force. It is a miracle that von Wollheim has even survived this long. Apparently he kept himself alive on a diet of maccaroni roots and top ramen berries. Willhelm was so delerious from sleep deprivation, it was difficult to get an account the time in which he has been lost to the world. Whenever he could be coaxed into speech, he merely mumbled combinatorial and algebraic identities. In a brief lucid interval (at least, the Italian agents thought von Wollheim knew what he was saying; it is always so hard to tell), the ex-Kaiser urgently asked for an audience with the Pope. "I must see [the Pope]. I must unburden myself in his chamber." Interpereters are not certain whether Willy was referring to confession of sins, or an impending bowel movement. Flotte Congratulates Czar "Magnificently done! Such aggressive fighting marks Your Highness as deserving of the kingship of all Europe. And indeed, if such remarkable play continues, it shall not be long until the enemies of Russia are ground into dust. "In the brash presumption that so lowly a strategist as myself might contribute to Your Excellency's planning, I submit a proposal. The French threat to St. Petersburg is illusory, and best ingored. Indeed, if the young, warlike King Louis could be persuaded to invade, he would be doing the ACA a service. Since the new Russian fleet in St. Petersburg (which I am sure Your Exaltedness has had the foresight to build) is not needed in defense, it must advance as rapidly as possible to the front. "Concurrent with these considerations, it is to be pondered how the rash, aggressive King Louis is to prevented from erecting an adequate defense of his northern territories. His navy, although scattered at the moment, is not to be trifled with. "The plan of action which most adequately incorporates both these contingencies is a rapid movement of the newly constructed fleet into Norway, combined with an attack on the North Sea originating from Norway. The best course of action available to the French high command is a passive defense. And as the wise man say: 'He who must adopt the static defense is up the creek of shit.' "My humble fleet stationed in the Helgoland Bight will be honored to participate in the noble adventure I have sketched for Your Omnipotence. May the glory of the Czar be everlasting!" Ilke von Ekle Detained by French Secret Police French internal security police (InSecurity) have abducted German dissident, martyr, and exile Ilke von Ekle. They claimed to have intelligence (no pun intended) that Miss von Ekle had a hand in the assassination of the late, great, King Louis LXXIV. Ilke, it is speculated, suffers from a madness not inferior to that of her half-brother Willhelm. For although she loudly proclaimed her wish that France and Germany live in peace, she intentionally leaked the whereabouts of the peaceful King on his secret diplomatic mission to Kaiser Verwicklung. She hoped, and justifiably, that prospects of peace would be crushed by her maneuver. When asked for comment in her defense, the exile produced some tortured logic from her tortured mind. "Russia must hurt. Germany must hurt Russia. France must hurt Germany, so Germany will not hurt France, and will hurt Russia instead. The Germans must be our allies, no matter how much we have to hurt them. Also, my head hurts." Coalition Talks Successful As a result of intensive negotiations between Kaiser Hans Verwicklung and chairman of the Not-So Loyalist Party, Jens "Keine Sheisse" Jans, the political division that has thown Germany into such great turmoil has come to and end. In exchange for formally disbanding as a political entity, the NSLers have had their point man, Jens Jans, named as minister of foreign affairs and public hygene. Herr Hans was photographed falshing the victory sign to his most dedicated constituients, the garbage collection crews. Italy defeated in Trieste Paris - Our reporter in Croatia told about a total defeat of the Italian army defending the area of Trieste. French officials have expressed their feelings on the bitter loss of a whole army: "It's really a pity how these great soldiers were crushed by eastern aggressors. Hopefully Italy will find ways to keep the rest of its Balkan properties, though we expect the czar to move on into Italian provinces. France will do everything it can to prevent the fall of the Italian homeland to moslem hords." Press ranking published by FPA Paris - The FPA (French Press Association) has published its results for this years press contest.
