Press: Vienna Tribune: =============== All: No distinguishing characteristic for Austrian press this season. Let's live dangerously! England: We want press! We want press! France: Now we come to blows. I cannot allow you to advance further east than Munich. I ask you to reconsider your expansionist policies, and to refocus your energies elsewhere. Germany: A beseiged Germany protects herself with a mighty navy? How interesting. Please keep the French at bay while I plug up the hole at Munich. Italy: A good ally seeks to eliminate temptation, which is why I pulled the self-standoff in Trieste. But enough of that foolishness; we've got the French to fight! I supported you into the Ionian just in case you moved there, but I think it's apparent that you need a fleet in the Tyrhennian. It's pretty obvious what I'm up to -- Tyr and Bud will hold Tyr-Boh-Sil (Ukr can come west if needed). If you need support somewhere, just holler. Also, let me know if you'd like to advance an army into Tyrolia (though Piedmont should do just as well). Russia: I supported Mos with Ukr. I have hopes that a stalemate in the West will cause the French to seek allies against England. Turkey: Hey, don't get nervous about the second fleet. I want parity with your navy; I'm not trying to start an arms race. And I'm fighting the French on land, just as you requested. The Times: ========== England -> France I put pressure on Denmark this turn, which probably means that you'll get Holland. I think Germany's history...we need to start thinking about our next moves. Feel free to hammer Italy - time to exercise the med fleet, non? So far, the alliance is going well. Austria concerns me; I will try to get my armies in position to face Austria over the remains of Russia. Bon chance. England -> All Beware the silver lip of the Austrian Habsburg! La Parisienne: ============== DUTCH UPRISINGS QUELLED (Holland, spring 1905) The peasant uprisings in the Low Countries have been crushed. The government of France is pleased to have an endless supply of Dutch pretzels (they go so well with German beer, after all :-) AUSTRIAN NAVAL BUILD-UP SHORTENS VACATION FOR SAILORS (Spain, spring 1905) The members of the second fleet, vacationing in southern Spain, were called back to service due to the surprise Austrian naval build up. "We are not yet in a state of naval war," said the fleet commander, "but we feel the need for defensive positioning. We will be conducting training drills on a regular basis. We intend to be fully prepared for whatever is thrown at us!" The members of the first and third fleets will undergo similar training maneuvers. GROWING ANTI-FRENCH SENTIMENTS BEGIN TO WORRY PRESIDENT (Paris, spring 1905) The growing anti-french propaganda is causing quite a stir in the foreign ministry. "The accusations of 'French aggressiveness' are unfounded," the President said. "We have been supportive of all nations, with the exception of Germany." The President cited several examples, including discussions with the English about Russia, and the French intervention to save the Turks. Regarding the unsupportive actions taken towards Germany, the foreign minister to the Kaiser was overheard saying something about "early ineptitude leading to opportunities too good to pass up." Berlin Bugle: ============= G-World: Banzai!!!!!!!! G-E: Look out Snoopy, here I come! G-F: Oh my, O Gosh, O Golly! You're attacking me! G-A: Umm. I would be very willing to listen to anything that you have to offer. G-R: Wonder who will go first, you or me? G-I: I don't know what to say! G-T: You may be the only one I can still call a friend! :-) Roman Herald: ============= To England: I have now committed myself. By attacking Austria I realise that I am doing the Anglo-Gallic alliance a considerable favour. There is something you can do for me in return. Stop harassing the Tsar, if only until the Austrian situation is resolved. I am small and must rely on the assistance of a joint Russo-Turkish effort to carry my attack to victory. Further moves by Your Brittanic majesty within the Russian Motherland will only serve to aid Austria by weakening and dividing the forces he is facing. If my attack fails, Austria will have negligable resistance to his east. You can help prevent this by allowing the Tsar to give his complete attention to the task now at hand. Do you *want* to see the Austro-Hungarian flag flying over any more supply centres? To France: The Italian people can no longer stand by and watch as Austria continues his must unchristian policy of aquisition in the Balkans. It is fortunate that Austria has concentrated his forces in an eastern campaign, exposing his west to a swift incursion. I have no need for assistance from the French fleets, as he has only 1 free fleet to my 2, but your army in Munich is well placed to keep the Austria's Tyrolian army occupied. Without your help there, I shall be forced to retreat in Autumn. To Russia: I have pleaded my case for you as best as I can. Your ability to regain Russian holdings abducted by Austria will be decided by England's ability to act with restraint, or failure to do so. To Turkey: Now is the time to strike. I hope to have taken Austria by suprise. My fleets will quickly be in position to assist you. This bold stroke of mine will serve to split Austria's forces, giving a joint Russo-Turkish push a better chance of success. To Germany: Alas, there is nothing I can do to alleviate your plight without angering the French, who's assistance I now need. I don't *want* to see you suffer, it's just that circumstance prevents me from being of any worthwhile help to you. To Austria: War is hell. Moscow Gazette: - =============== Ankara Bulletin: ================ To Austria: Well, you kept us at each other's throats long enough for France to build a third fleet. Tunis could fall this coming year if France is aggressive. If your fleets move west immediately they might make the difference. Unfortunately 'west immedately' means that you must take the Ionian. How can I distinguish a necessary defensive move from an agressive one? How about pulling Fleet Greece into the Ionian and giving me Bulgaria? An Austrian army in Greece would make me more comfortable than a fleet. I will not ask for/take more, the build I get will satisfy me that you can not easily threaten me, and you can prop up Italy even after Tunis falls. From the beginning I have only asked for a fair share down here, and will continue an unagressive stance towards you. I will not support Russian advances from a Bulgarian position - England and France need a strong counter balance in Germany and you are it.
