<None> From: sol@athena.mit.edu (Sol) Date: Fri, 24 May 1991 16:41:32 +0000 I have decided to start up an AD&D pbem/irc game. This has been widely regarded by some as a generally bad move. Nevertheless, here goes: 1. I am looking for about 4 to 6 "serious" players. By this, I mean reliable, creative, and maybe even industrious, as I will probably put into the game the same amount of work as my players do. This is how selection will work: You will have until June 1st to submit a character. I will hope to send out the first turn by June 3rd. This character should include a complete physical description, stats, hp's etc. as well as a good character background and personality description (Aside note, give these created characters 3000 Experience Pts. and modify histories accordingly) --Histories are Very Important-- as these will be the main criteria I use for choosing players. I am allowing a week for submission of characters because I would like to give people a chance to put some thought into the creation of these characters. Among the submissions received, I will choose the top N people who have met the above and below requirements. From these N, I will randomly choose four to six players. 2. As mentioned before this is an Advanced Dungeons and Dragons format game, I own the 2nd Ed. PHB and DMG, but I will be using many rules of my own creation(and borrowed from others) in my campaign. These deviations, (most notably in spell-casting, experience, combat-tables, and hit-points), will be more fully explained to the accepted players. 3. I am also musing with the idea of handling combat in another (besides e-mail) medium, I believe the most readily available one is IRC (Internet Relay Chat, for the software-impaired). "Talk" would take too long, and I have little experience with MUDs. Please let me know in your letter if you have access to any of these three packages. 4. Well, I guess it's only fair to include some idea of what I hope my campaign will be like: It will be set in various places in the Forgotten Realms milieu, however, it probably won't follow very many of the 'documented' characteristics of the realms as I do not have the many accessories that are out there. Here's a little taste, however: ALL YE BRAVE AND DARING ADVENTURERS ----------------------------------- Be it known that the All-Wise, Near Omnipotent, Mage Most Renown, Seethar Glowen has need of men and women of derring-do for a peril fraught series of tasks whose peril and thrill are merely one aspect of the reward that shall be granted to worthy questers. Magic and gold beyond imagining shall be granted by the Illustrious Seethar to those deemed worthy. Please convey your personage to the Munificent One's presence at 225 DragonNail Path. Across from Glendar the fortune teller's hut and next to Putnik's Chicken Emporium. "What do you think, Sssscrag?", lisped the cloaked figure with the scaled hands and jerky movements, indicating the posted sign. "I think it's some yapping hedge-wizard full of himself and ripe for plucking", muttered the similarly cloaked half-orc. Scrag and Sssythra moved down the poorly lit avenue to the tavern of ill-repute where the rest of their not-so-merry band awaited them. These two creatures were attacked on sight in many 'civilized' cities, but here in Dern's Gate, they were allowed free passage under the guise of merchants. Anything you could want to buy or sell could be found in Dern's Gate. Unfortunately, anyone, or anything, with something to sell could pay the gate-tax and enter. Upon overhearing this conversation, you might wonder how many other shady characters have read this notice. You might also wonder if there is any profit to be gained in checking out this 'hedge-wizard'. What do you do? Thank you for your attention, Sol W.
