Monquest Update#2 From: apm945h@vaxc.cc.monash.edu.au Date: Sun, 23 Jun 1991 11:10:42 +0000 MONQUEST THE PBM - UPDATE #2 Hi, this is the second update on Monquest, the pbm. This is actually a reposting mainly, of what I have posted before. It is also being mailed to all those who have e-mailed quieries to me and also to those who have recently posted stuff to rec.games.pbm. If you have already confirmed definite interest, then don't panic, be patient. If you haven't, well there are still places, so get your act together. Please note the change to mapping procedures found at the end of this update. Please also note that if you are definitely interested, let me know. Details of who the payments will be to are not yet finalised, so hold onto that cash. Thanks for your interest. A few questions have been raised, as people want to know more about the game before they become more involved. Here are a few answers. Cost: Aust$6 for the rules and the first two turns are included FREE !! Each turn is Aust$1.50, with a minimum of five turns to be paided in advance. No refund on two turns or less. (International money orders are a good idea.) Turn length: Two weeks. Game length: About 20 turns, or until there is a winner. Game complexity: The creator claims "easy for those who have played PBMs before, a little complicated in the beggining for those who haven't." Rules: We can't say much yet, until you sign up but here are a few things to keep you going. At the beggining of the game, you are allocated 450 victory points, and details will be e-mailed to you about your map (see below). For the first turn only, you may recruit and build as much as you wish, paying victory point costs only. (eg to recruit army units on the first turn, you need not recruit from peasants - the army simply appears.) The hidden jewels of Hath Gazar lie hidden in the forbidden cities throughout the continent of Monaq. These cities are the relics of a long-lost age, and have never fallen by seige............. Victory points are won and lost for jewels held/lost, foes that are weaker/stronger defeated or defeated by etc. Henchmen are available (in limited numbers) to assasinate, spy etc. Equipment may be created from ore which has to be mined, ships can be built, castles, villages and docks may be built. Trading is available (it's not all killing, but there is plenty of that with battle tactics which include attack, envelope, trap, etc.) Turns The game is human moderated even handedly (no bribes taken) and logical checks such as wandering monsters are there to ensure game balance. Hope that is enough to fire you guys up, we still need people, we take anyone anywhere!! If you have friend interested who do not have accounts, then we can arrange to e-mail them their turns a certain times (no peeking!!) The game will begin when we get enough enteries (don't send money yet, we'll let you know when things are ready to start). What more can you ask for, cheap, not overly time consuming and entertaining PBM action. Any more queries, either e-mail me directly or to rec.games.pbm. Note that I will be making all game announcments through .pbm and may not always let you know I have, so keep your eyes fixed on this newsgroup. See you guys on the network. Mapping update. Below is an example of how your maps will be updated. A simple icon system will be used to describe the features of the area in which you are. Neat, isn't it. Eg.
