It exists to run games (mainly diplomacy variants and orphans) and to discuss hobby/games related matters. It first appeared in June 1991.] Date: Tue, 16 Jul 91 09:20:23 +1200 From: Michael Norrish <norrish@nz.ac.vuw.rata> I would be quite happy to maintain the Where-Is 'database' that you suggest. I don't have a database program as such, but I can probably maintain the list just through emacs and the like, (or I could write a program to do it; but hey, let's get real here; I haven't got that sort of time). My repsonse: I would like to point out that the "WHOIS" command on the judge already does that. Now we just need to encourage people to register on the judge, or to register them ourselves.... **** TRICKY DISAPPEARS, TO BE REPLACED BY PARIS **** From: Nawwar Kasraw (skiman@leland.stanford.edu) You may have noticed that I recently resigned as Master of Tricky, because nobody has signed up. Since you have so many players on standby, I will GM a game. I have never GM'ed before, but in the last couple of months I've picked up how the judge works pretty well. I'm going to set up a game called paris. I will set up under my Stanford ID (Skiman@leland.stanford.edu). However, the start date cannot be before 16th September, because I don't get back to Stanford until then, and I don't want to run it from my uucp address. I will go ahead and set the game up. Please publicize it. Ideally, I would like all the players to have .edu accounts. I will keep it nolist for the moment so that some people from the waiting list can be accommodated. Please let me know whether you approve. P.S. I know that my dedication rating on this ID isn't exactly stellar. However, I have a very bad connection, and I have CD'd several times on Warp speed games because of that. Before I left Stanford for the summer, I had a rating of over 100, and I had never been late more than one or two days. I promise that as soon as I get back to Stanford, I will be on-time all the time. <DL: Sounds like a great idea Nawwar. Eric has a long list of players waiting to get into a game. Hopefully, I'll be able to get you the players you need.> **** GIGGLES STARTUP STATEMENT **** From: dwiseman@erim.org (Dave Wiseman) Well, I'm GMing a "local" ERIM game on the judge, the giggles youngstown game. I see that I'm listed in your post to rec.games.pbm. What information do you need? The game is listed as any-site, and we are loosely following the EP House Rules (downloaded from the judge). I say loosely, because we are all at the same site, and face-to-face is allowed. First move is due on August 23. **** MARENGO STARTUP STATEMENT **** From Michael Luft - scottb@cs.utexas.edu Announcing the formation of yet another standard game of Diplomacy - Electronic Protocol Game #129 - Marengo. I'm the GM, Michael Luft. I've GMed a few games by snailmail for friends, and look forward to hosting a game on the Diplomacy Adjudicator. The game will be standard with no variants, and in keeping with my philosophy of Diplomacy, it will be DIAS - Draws Include All Survivors. I'm basically a hands-off GM, but am more than willing to aid those who are a little daunted by the DA. Those who haven't tried the DA before or recently, this is a chance to see how it all works. I'm sure once you try it, you'll want to play all your games there. Marengo ids presently short two players of startup. If you're interested in playing or flying standby, register with the DA and contact me. I'll explain every step you need to make in detail. Don't be afraid to ask. I live to serve. <DL: Now only one opening is left> **** LIST OF OPEN POSITIONS ON THE DA **** Please volunteer to fill any open positions listed below. Contact me or the GM or send a LIST <game> command to the JUDGE for more details. REPLACEMENT PLAYERS NEEDED: NOW: dien (Turkey 7/7) fontenoy (Lon,Mar,Nap,Rom,Rum,Smy,War) cloak (Papacy 4/4) turbo (Italy 6/6) SOON: jutland (England 9/9) tiberius (Germany 7/7) GAMES IN FORMATION: cannes, eylau, hastings, iena, 7senuf, normandy, marengo, paris **** LIST OF EP GAMES ON THE DA **** Here is an update on games played on Judge sorted by the type of rules used. For more recent information send "LIST" to the JUDGE. If you have any additional comments about any games listed here, send them to me. I'm listing the status of each game not only for this week but for the last several weeks, so that you can see not only where the game is, but how fast it is moving.
