Diplomacy Magazine -- Chapter Two From: loeb@geocub.UUCP (Daniel LOEB) Date: Fri, 09 Aug 1991 09:35:06 +0000 Issue #250 of Chapter Two of the Electronic Protocol By Daniel Loeb (loeb@geocub.greco-prog.fr) August 5, 1991 ------------------------------------------------------------- Electronic Protocol Games played on the Diplomacy Adjudicator ------------------------------------------------------------- **** TABLE OF CONTENTS **** Letter from Randy Appleton Letter from Al Petterson List of Open Positions List of EP games on the DA List of Gamemasters **** LETTERS TO THE EDITOR **** >From: Randy Appleton <randy@ms.uky.edu> >I'm a diplomacy player, and have always had an interest in the varients. >I've noticed you have some varients that involve 9 or 10 players. >Do you have the rules for these on-line. If so, may I have a copy? Or >do you know where I can get them? I'd really appriciate it. There are many variants available on the Diplomacy Adjudicator, and complete rules can be demanded from it. (The files you should GET are named after the variant) First of all there are "variant maps" (sometimes accompanied by variant rules)..... Standard: The standard rules info map map.ps map.top map.x11 rules Youngstown: A fairly common variant including Asia. info.youngstown young.ps youngstown.ps map.youngstown report.youngstown Loeb9: Danny Loeb's 9 player variant including Spain and Norway. info.loeb9 loeb9.ps map.loeb9 report.loeb9 Pure: Each power starts with one army on a map of seven provinces. info.pure map.pure report.pure Chaos: A 34 player variant in which each player gets one center. info.chaos report.chaos Britain: England starts with six armies. info.britain report.britain map.britain 1898: Each player starts with only one of his home centers. info.1898 report.1898 Crowded: Eleven players occupy all 35 centers at game start. info.crowded report.crowded Machiavelli: Uses money to support units and/or bribe others' units. rules.machiavelli info.machiavelli machiavelli.ps map.machiavelli In addition, the standard game as well as the above variants, can be modified by the following subvariants.... Gunboat: The identities of the other players are kept secret. info.gunboat Press: Grey and sometimes even black messages are allowed press Finally, I should mention that each new variant entered into the Judge requires a certain amount of work on Ken Lowe's part. Thus, there are still many variants that Judge doesn't handle. I have the rules to a certain number of such variants including blind diplomacy, kibbitz diplomacy, musical diplomacy, classic diplomacy and variants with 8 to 67 players.... **** LETTER TO THE EDITOR **** >From: al%calsci@gvgpsa.gvg.tek.com (Al Petterson) >Whenever I send orders to the judge, I receive two copies of the >acknowledgement. I suspect this is due to an 'IAMALSO' command I sent to >the judge some time ago. Is there any way to delete one of the addresses >so that I only receive one copy? Your suspicion is probably correct. As far as I know the only way to clear an IAMALSO command is to resubmit your registration (REGISTER) or to ask Ken for help. >Also, I mailed for and received a list of all Diplomacy Adjucator games. A >number of them are listed 'unmoderated.' Are these games 'open', i.e. if >they are waiting on more signups, can I sign on and enter these games >without resort to a waiting list or notification of a GM? Originally, all games on the adjudicator were unmoderated. However, some people found that the number of CD's in such games interfered with their enjoyment. By having human GMs, games on the judge can get past such hardships, and the players have someone other than Ken to ask for help. All games on the Judge (moderated or not) are open to * people who have registered validly * who are not in conflict with the same-site different-site setting (if any), and * have the required "dedication" (if any). However, for games which have a GM it is only polite to contact the GM before (or when) signing on. Any GM forming a game which is not as "open" as that described above would be well advised to keep his game "unlisted" during the signup period. **** LIST OF OPEN POSITIONS ON THE DA **** Please volunteer to fill any open positions listed below.
