They are, in no particular order: 1) The bug that prevented the "phase" command from working for adjustment orders (when you're most likely to want to use it) has been fixed. 2) *** MACHIAVELLI VARIANTS ARE NOW SUPPORTED!! ***. Well, almost; there are still some obscure rules that are pending. Machiavelli is a whole 'nuther game by Avalon Hill. It's quite similar to Diplomacy, but it allows for a whole new set of ways to backstab your allies. Rather than getting one unit per supply center owned, you get money for the territory you control (taxes) and you use that to maintain your troops and/or bribe your neighbor's troops!! It can get rather nasty if one of your armies decides to switch over to the other side and attack you before the orders are processed. For a complete description of the rules and a copy of the PostScript map, send the judge a message with: get rules.machiavelli get info.machiavelli get machiavelli.ps To verify that everything is working, a test game named "dagger" has been established and is waiting for people to sign on. If you'd like to help test things out, please sign onto it (after you've read the rules and have gotten the map). I'd particularly be interested in anyone who is already familiar with the rules of Machiavelli signing on. Note1: The PostScript maps are also available via anonymous ftp to u.washington.edu as public/misc/xxxxx.ps. It is preferred that you get them that way if you've got ftp access to the Internet rather than via an email message to the judge. Note2: The Machiavelli support required some really major reworking of the adjudicator's tables and data structures. I believe I have tested things fairly well, but there's always a condition or two that will come up that I didn't expect. If you notice any anomolies with games in the other variants (or Machiavelli, for that matter) please notify me ASAP. 3) The judge no longer allows the syntax "signon ?name <password>" to create a game if the specified name does not already exist. Too many games were created when people made typos. You must now use the "create" command which has the identical syntax to the signon command. 4) The judge no longer automatically makes you an alternate when you sign on using the ? syntax when either the game has already started or there is already someone from your site signed onto the game. If you really want to become an alternate (which is really no different than an observer) you'll have to use the "signon %game <password>" command. An explanation on how to become an alternate or to take abandoned powers over will be sent back by the judge if you attempt to use the ? syntax on what would previously make you an alternate automatically. 5) The "process" command now allows you to specify the phase that you want processed. This command is only used by moderators/masters to get the judge to process a season's orders ahead of schedule. The syntax is the same as that of the "phase" command. 6) Proxy orders are now supported when enabled by the moderator. Anyone can submit proxy orders (for movement phases only) for other powers' units. The owner of the unit can give the proxy to an individual power of his choice with an order of the form: Army Vienna proxy to Russia for example and then whatever order, if any, that Russia had submitted for the army in Vienna would be followed by that unit. Austria will not see whether Russia has submitted an order for the unit and Russia will not know that he has the proxy until the orders are actually processed. At that time all players will be notified of the proxy arrangement. By default, proxy orders are disabled and must be explicitly enabled by the moderator of the game. **** LIST OF OPEN POSITIONS ON THE DA **** Please volunteer to fill any open positions listed below.
