Diplomacy Zine -- EP #236 Chapter One From: rlister@cti1.UUCP (Russell Lister) Date: Mon, 29 Jul 1991 19:44:25 +0000 Issue #236 of ELECTRONIC PROTOCOL - Chapter One: A magazine devoted to the electronic mail playing of Avalon Hill's game Diplomacy. Coordinated by Eric S. Klien (see end of posting). ************************************************************************* ----------- Chapter One ----------- This chapter publishes results for the games AUSTERLITZ, BLACK OCTOBER, BLITZKRIEG II, GET SOME, GUADAL, JUTLAND, OPERATION DESERT STORM, Gunboat game PASSCHENDAELE, and no press gunboat game KING'S GAMBIT. Publisher: Russ Lister (rlister@cti.com -or- uunet!cti1!rlister) Checker : Michael Norrish (norrish@st1.vuw.ac.nz) ----------- This Issue: ----------- End Game Statements for BAGHDAD (EP #78) (GM is campbell@capsrv.jhuapl.edu/ Rich Campell) Spring & Fall 1906 of BLITZKRIEG II (EP #100) (GM is dougi@astro.as.utexas.edu/ Doug Ingram) Winter 1906 through Winter 1907 of KING'S GAMBIT (EP #82) (GM is chbrin5@dknkurz1.bitnet/ Kai Hortmann) Fall 1902 through Winter 1903 of JUTLAND (EP #112) (GM is loeb@geocub.greco-prog.fr/ Daniel Loeb) ========================================================================== BAGHDAD - End of Game Statements ========================================================================== As promised, the end of game statements. Again, Thanks to everyone for usually meeting the deadlines. Austria (Magnus Selhammar / selham@pdc.kth.se) : We could have got a five way draw. Italy (Philip Honeybone / pjrh@ukc.ac.uk) : When I took over as Italy, it was obvious to me that England and Germany were in with a very good chance of the joint win - England bearing down on the Med and already with St Petersburg. Fortunately, I was already in position to stop English fleets entering the Mediterannean and able to stop Germany advancing around the alps. I even managed to sneak Marseille while E/G manouevred into position (noone was more suprised by that than me!) Austria seemed more than happy to cooperate to stop the advancing Northern alliance. Unfortunately, Russia was more concerned with eliminating Austria than stopping E/G. (At first, they could have been pushed back). What Turkey intended, I shall never know, as I never heard from him whilst I was in the game. Gradually we were pushed into a more defensive position as Russia and Turkey took Austrian centres and E/G took Russian centres. In the end, I got more and more disillusioned with the game and decided that Turkey would not get a share in the draw (it looked as though he was trying to dig himself in and hold out for a share of the draw). As a result, I turned East and at least landed on the Turkish mainland before the end of the game! Overall, I enjoyed playing, especially trying (unsuccessfully) to split E/G. It did get bogged down at the end, though, with one player resisting the E/G draw. ========================================================================== Blitzkrieg II -- Spring 1906 results ========================================================================== Subject: Blitzkrieg II -- Spring 1906 results (after many delays!) Quick note: France is going to be gone until July 14th, he says. Right now, I am planning to make the moves due on Friday, July 19th. I will stick to this deadline for now but will move it back a day or two at France's request upon his return if he needs more time. French A Mun may retreat to either Ruh or Sil. Going by the general gist of his moves this turn, I will assume he wants the Ruhr retreat. Again, if France wishes to change this retreat to Silesia or he wishes to disband the unit, I will announce the change when he returns. If this causes a problem with anyone, again, I'll be happy to extend the deadline. At this point, though, my primary goal is to minimize delays so that we can get to the game. English A Pru has no retreat possible and so is annihilated (the attack came from Sil, so Sil is still a legitimate retreat for France but not for England). If one steps away from all the delays we've been plagued with, I think it would be safe to say that it's intriguing how many twists and turns we've had in this game in 6 game years. I hope we can play it out to the end now that everyone is back; it's sure to be rewarding. As always, press and editorials are welcome. Fall 1906 deadline is Friday, July 19, at 1 pm PDT. ========================================================================== Blitzkrieg II - Fall 1906 ========================================================================== Subject: Blitz II -- *Corrected* results for Fall 1906 Status: RO Blitzkrieg II -- Fall 1906 "Perpetual peace is a dream, and not even a beautiful dream. Anyway, I hope it didn't cause any problems or undue nail biting. *** Correction *** Italian A Ven must retreat this turn, and it has several options open. If Stewart wishes to disband rather than retreat that unit, he doesn't need to do anything else this Winter. Otherwise, he may retreat A Ven and disband elsewhere. Players may submit conditional builds based on Stewart's retreat if they wish since the retreat technically happens prior to Winter 1906. *** End of correction *** England gets a build because of an annihilated unit in the Spring season, but his total number of supply centers remains unchanged from last year. Winter 1906 builds/disbands/retreats will be due on Friday, July 26, at 1 pm PDT. If anyone has a problem with this deadline, as usual, simply email me to ask for an extension. ========================================================================== KINGS GAMBIT - Winter 1906 ========================================================================== Germany: A Berlin Moves for Spring 1907 are due before Tuesday 5/21/91. - Brian ========================================================================== KINGS GAMBIT - Spring 1907 ========================================================================== --Austria Army Venice -> Rome (** fail **) Army Serbia Support Germany Galicia -> Rumania (** Illegal **) Army Trieste Support Serbia Army Budapest Support Serbia Army Vienna Support Germany Warsaw -> Ankara (** Illegal **) --France Fleet Tyrhenian -> Ionian (** bounce **) Fleet North Africa -> Tunis Fleet W. His first move was to visit the front, where he was briefed by his generals. After offering stirring words of encouragement to the troops, N.B. was struck down by a sudden ailment. Physicians later diagnosed the malady as a nervous breakdown brought on by contemplation of the sorry state to which the overthrown monarch had reduced the nation. A week of rest in a sunny sanitorium was prescribed and the embattled leader will be retiring to New Spain for the next week to recuperate. He will not be available to receive diplomatic communications during this period. He will return, rejuvenated and prepared to restore the nation to its former Glory.
