SPARF Week 2 Results From: mel@soda.berkeley.edu (Mel Nicholson) Date: Sat, 26 Oct 1991 01:08:17 +0000 Well, I started the change which would make Injuries be team-marked, but when I finally ran the games, I didn't use the most recent version, so *next* week the injuries will be team-marked. Below I introduce "Pamela Twitch" the color announcer for SPARF: "Thanks, Mel. This is Pamela Twitch, the color announcer for Sparf. Game week two showed a lot of surprising surprises and dramatic drama. The Koolywirtian Yarloops scored the upset of the week against the Pacifica Tigers using a strategy which seemed to say 'If you can't beat em, hurt em.' It was a very bloody game with a lot of time lost pulling the bodies off the field. The Yarloops managed to pull out a win, but if they keep losing players at this rate, they might not make it to the midseason break. Also, in a surprising move by California Slugger manager Van Bougner, he sent Mel Nicholson onto the field. It is still unclear at this time whether the Mel Nicholson playing on the team is the same Mel Nicholson who is commisioner for the league, or whether any relation exists between them. We'll keep you posted on that and the extent of the player Mel Nicholson's injuries. In the United States national news, there was a fire in the Oakland/Berkeley Hills which destroyed around 2,000 structures, most of which were single family homes. Our sympathy goes out to the CSUA whose players didn't seem able to concentrate on the game in Oslo, Norway, while at home their houses were burning. Across California, the Redwoods maintained their league dominance in a shot for shot thriller against the Wallamaloo Philosphy Department. Sean Onme brought home the league MVP for his impressive accuracy which made the difference in the game to decide who would lord of the diamond division. The Newcastle Novas have established themselved as the team to beat in the second decisive victory in a row for the team. Close on their tails, however, are the Cambridge Tigers, who are still just as undefeated. The St. Louis Cattle and The Manix Maulers seem locked at each other's throats for supremacy of the Heart Division, and Diamond Division promises a lot of surpises as the Wallamaloo Philosophers finish the second half of their confrontation with the Redwoods for a share of the lead. Meanwhile the number one offense in the Red League, the Viking Raiders, will probably be all too ready to take a share of that league if the opportunity arises. That's all the time I have this week, but for now this is Pamela Twitch, reporting for SPARF Intercontinental News." Thanks, Ms. Twitch. Now without firther ado: the league standings.
