*PBEM News* West of the Law From: stuff@jameskosub-dot-com.no-spam.invalid (James) Date: Tue, 29 Nov 2005 15:05:05 +0000 US Marshal Steven Garrison is a man of the West: he believes in practical solutions to real problems, even when those solutions run contrary to standard practice. For thirty years Garrison roamed the southwestern territories of the United States as an instrument of the law, but a bullet fired from behind by a fugitive from justice shattered his hip and nearly cost him his life. The frontier is a hard place where only the toughest survive, and even some lawmen cant manage to stay alive, but Marshal Garrison rides a desk instead of a horse these days. He needs a new way to extend the reach of the law into the lawless country Garrisons Posse. ----- West of the Law is a play-by-email game that takes sometime in the 1870s, and its action ranges across the whole of the Southwest, from Texas to California, as the men and women deputized to ride with Garrisons Posse carry the law where it needs to go. This is strictly a western. There are no magical beings, monsters, zombies, or any of other fillips that have attached to the setting over the last couple of decades in an attempt to revive interest in the genre. While liberties have been taken in the Italian western style, generally speaking the world is at it was. The game is not for kids, or for immature adults. West of the Law is, like the films that inspired it, a vehicle for adult themes including violence and sex. A movie version of West of the Law would surely earn an R rating. Depending on the participants, that rating could skew even stronger.
