This was another pretty tight session, with one very notable exception:
the 13-0 blowout of AIK over AAS.  This was just "one of those things"; a some-
what light lineup against an agressive one.  The moral: if you're going to play
light against an opponent, you have to guess correctly.

AAS:
Altoona's manager went on vacation so the guy sent plans ahead.  He
couldn't trust anyone, since so many are just figments of his imagination
Hell, the guy doesn't even know if any will be injured, but he tries.

AIK:
	AIK 1891-1991: one hundred years of brilliance. As the this anniversary
	year comes to an end, it is not time to rest on our laurels but
	to rebuild and go forth into our second century with high spirits,
	clenched fists and an unyielding faith in providence.

	 The supporters wrecked the stadium after the boring Minstermen held
	 AIK to a tie. On the road the record is a pathetic 0-3. The offense
	 contributed only one goal in three games and the defence is mediocre
	 at best. Goalkeeping is thoroughly pathetic with ZERO saves by
	 Andersson and Ljung in three games. The BLACK ARMY will support the
	 team through hell and high waters but soon you will not be drawing
	 24,500 fans anymore. We are proud to wear our black and gold, but
	 enough is enough. We anticipate a thorough thrashing of Altoona
	 (and their fans!). WARNING: if F. Ross does not play G. Stromberg
	 at home he will not leave the pitch alive.

Things at Ajax have not been working out. So we have decided to look for
a new trainer and maybe some new players. Furthermore we have started
some sessions with the players to boost morale.
We hope that our team will be topfit again after the X-mas break.

The Central Massachusetts Bandits, an Under-12 Team continues in the
middle of the pack surrounded by hundreds of adult soccer players. In
the last session, we lost two games each by one goal due to the old
farts pushing our kids around. We won the other by intimidating those
cleaning bubbles that shake out white and turn blue (Ajax). We put the
shortest kids against their biggest players and ran through their legs.

LCA:

The team now is able to concentrate on football again as all talks
about the sale and moving of the team have fallen on the wayside. The team
was sold to a local consortium of business executives.
	Also, it was announced that the team has found new sponsors: Samuel
Adams lager and the Original Hot Dog Shop. These sponsors have revealed
their plans to take LCA to the top.
	The new uniforms will be shown to the public when the media guide
comes out later this season.

YORK EVENING PRESS: ETHEL SAVES THE DAY
The Minstermen have made an excellent start to the season mainly due
to the solidity of a well-organised defence and the opportunity of
club top-scorer Garner. This is most surprising since the team have been
away in the states for the past two weeks. Appalling weather conditions
meant that the team were grounded over there and were forced to
play their home matches in the second session on neutral ground.
Striker Garner admits "It was difficult playing over there all the
time as we had to rely on Ethel the Tea-Lady to pick the team, the boss
being stranded in the UK an' all. But to be fair, we're over the preverbial
with the results - Ethel's wonder potion really is a tonic especially with
two spoons of sugar!" Clarke, the Minstermens's Manager, must watch out as
any slip in results could see him relgated to the catering staff,
with Ethel taking over the top job. Ethel for her part shrugs it off modestly:
"They're such nice boys", she smiles demurely, "all I do is tell them to go
out there and KICK-ASS! (at least I think that's the term they use over there).
With a pint of Taylors of Harrogate's Gold Tea sloshing about in them all
I had to do was run the bath and and unpack the rubber duckies in time for the
final whistle."
The next session sees the valient MM take on three of the top five teams.
"It's going to be tough", admits first-choice keeper McIlhargey, "but if
I can continue to save the shots and the boys in front of me can do their
stuff, we'll come out on top". Current form suggests that they'll clinch the
points versus PAO at The Shambles all ready for the show-down with joint leaders
Southampton Argyll. "A good result in this session and I'll take the boys and
Ethel down Betty's tea rooms as a special treat. They can all have cream
buns on me" promises the salivating manager.

	"Hello, everyone, this is Tskuru Shubun reporting live from
the Nippon Sunrise Dome here in MegaTokyo for NTV News.  Despite what
the experts said and seemingly despite all common logic, the Animes
collected two wins and a draw this session to pull away from the pack
in the EEFL standings. However,  there has been a big shake-up behind
the scenes.  Word has come down from the Nippon Sunrise Zaibatsu that
a practice coach will be hired to run the team on the practice field
and work on plays and fundamentals with the younger players."
	"I have here with me Coach Osamu Tezuka of the Animes. Coach
Tezuka, do you think the management's going over your head like this
well disrupt your team's ever-so-fragile chemistry?"
OT- Not at all.  In fact, I requested this change myself since I have
too much of the kindly old man in me to punish the players on the
practice field.  When I heard that Captain Okita was looking for a
coaching opportunity, I jumped at the chance to get him for our staff.
TS- Ah, yes. The redoubtable Juzo Okita, retired captain of the
Class-A space battleship, the Yamato. I taped an interview with him
early today about his new responsibilities. Let's see what he has to
say.

TS- Captain Okita, why this sudden shift of careers?
JO- Well, this old body of mine just got too worn-down to captain a
starship, but the Space Force High Command were too deferential to ask
me to step down, so I felt it would be best to resign from active
duty.
    As for coaching soccer, half my skill as a captain was due to my
gifts for motivating and inspiring the greenhorn cadet crews that the
High Command always stuck me with.  I plan to take this motley bunch
that Coach Tezuka has given me and whip them into fighting shape so
that together, we can defeat the White Comet Empire..err..I mean win
the Atlantic Division Championship.

TS- One last question for you, Coach Tezuka.  Despite your luck in the
last session, the Animes are still having trouble scoring. What do you
plan to do to rectify the situation?
OT- Well, we usually play in a tight defensive stance and depend on
lightning counterattacks and taking advantage of an opponent's
mistakes to create our offensive opportunities, but I now have enough
confidence in our defense to open our game up a little and take the
play to them.

Meet the Players!

FORWARDS-

Crusher Talos- Former strongman for the highly regarded team of
Crusher mercenary operatives, he is currently remaining on Earth for
"health reasons".  Despite his total dedication on the field, Talos
sees soccer basically as a lark and plans to return to space after a
season or two. He has quite a following in the reaches of
pirate-controlled reaches of space, where there are many fans who have
stated their desire to meet Crusher Talos and "give him what he so
richly deserves."

Char Aznable-(AKA The Red Baron) The charismatic leader of the Zion
 Empire realized  that he wasn't getting nearly enough support
Earthside to muster enough opposition against the United Earth
Government, so he decided to take his message of self-determination for
the space colonies directly to the people of Earth by reprising the
soccer-playing days of his boyhood, since the UEG had already banned
him from speech-making on the airways.

Maris, the SuperGal-(AKA "Vampire" Maris) This native of planet
Thanatos originally put her tremendous strength and natural agility to
work in the rings of the Intergalactic Womens' Wrestling Federation,
but she changed sports when she read about how much players were
making in the Italian League.

Cygnus Hyoga- Team coaches are ecsatic about this young player who
came out of Siberia to join the team.  In addition to his natural
soccer skills, Hyoga has the mystical ability to freeze defenders in
their tracks, literally!

Saotome Ranma- This young forward has a lot of potential, but is not a
team player, being involved in constant altercations with Tatewaki
Kuno and Hibiki Ryoga.  Actually, he would rather just practice his
esoteric kung-fu techniques than play for the Animes, but his father
said get a job, and it was either this or McDonalds.

SAR:

The Lean Green Mean Machine had a nightmare start to their EEFL
campaign when their planning application to build a stadium in
Plymouth was turned down by the organisers, who had received a
better bid from a northern consortium.  Not detered, the
Greens have set up base in Southampton, and after a shaky start
in the preseason tourney have now evolved into a useful outfit.

Session A saw Argyle trying a variety of styles, but with a lack
of one touch control and decent strikers the results were mixed.
The Altoona All Stars were first to visit, but their performance
was as 2D as their players and their "Kick Butt" promise evaporated
as Steve Cooper headed the only goal of the game.  The Greens put
emphasis on defence and this showed as Altoona only had one shot.
For their first away game, manager "Chooper Doc" Chown chose to
defend, playing 6 across the back;  the game was dull as a result
and a shot count of 2-2 should have resulted in a 0-0, but midfielder
Nicky Marker blasted in his only chance for a second Green win.
Not such good news when the Animes visited Southampton;  an even
game was won by the Animes' C. Talos who bagged two goals with
only two shots - mark this man !!  Still 4 points and the Greens
in second place.

Chopper Doc wasn't at the session A matches, and his coach got lost
on the road somewhere; thus the team selection for session B was
made rather blindly. As it turned out, the blind man could see!
First to visit this session were the little boys from Massachussets,
who helped Argyle by taking off three men at half time and only
brought on 2 subs.  The 10 boys tired, and Johnny Hore stole a
late winner for us in the 84th minute.  The match at Ajax was Argyle's
second dull away affair, a 3-4 shot count this time really did turn
out to be 0-0.  Ajax finished the game with 8 men, having started
with only 10 and having had Hesp sent off and Roy injured; a chance missed.
The Thudering Herd came to a standstill in the last game, outshot
by The Lean Green Mean Machine who eventually romped home through
two late late goals by centre back George Foster and stalwart
striker Tommy Tynan.   Five points from the session, and the Greens
in joint first place.  It can only go downhill now....

Chopper Doc was philosophical after the team's best performance over
the Herd "we aren't getting many shots on goal, but our defence is
holding firm and has 5 clean sheets in 6 outings.  Our strikers
lack punch but it's good to see goals coming from all departments,
even Big George!"

Asked about session C, the Doc was humble "we've had a great start,
and the boys done good.  Now we can consolidate our position, and
hopefully we'll soon find out how high we must finish to get into
a higher division for next season.  I'm also considering carefully
how to develop the side;  if any team has training points to spare,
I'll pay good cash for them.  We're also in the hunt for a forward
of any age or ability;  midfielder Darren Rowbotham (age 0 SL 0)
is on the transfer list and could be traded for a raw striker.
The Lambda Chi's and Canterbury Rovers will not be pushovers; the
Rovers have lots of big names but haven't scored too often.  The
Italians will have flair and passion, but that can be snuffed.  Our
big game is against joint leaders The Minstermen; we'll do our
homework and give them our best shot, but if we can pick up points
in the first two games we can settle for a point off the Yorkies."
