UT's road woes continue. OT @ BB 0-2 0-4 Arafat keeps opponents scoreless in Beirut. ER @ HM 2-7 0-5 Are the Marmots making their Move? V @ DS 8-3 6-1 Will V hold off the others for 2nd place? DRH@ BB 1-2 0-4 DRH is looking at tough times in Satellite. Today, we've got 6 more matches to try to pick...starting with the Marmots visiting the Gauchos. The Marmots are 2-6-1 on the road this year with one of those wins coming off the Goalmongers (the other was, surprise, at DRH). The Goalmongers are riding a 4 game losing streak going into this match, but looking at the schedules, we see the Marmots are going to have to batten down the hatches for a home game against Beirut and a road game against the Valkeries, both with blistering offenses. Too bad the Gauchos don't have the FW strength to take advantage of the spread-thin defense of the Marmots. Go with HM, 5-3. Next, Amsterdam visits Oxaxaca, a team that has had AA's number this season with two wins, 5-0 and 4-0. Ajax is getting tougher as the season goes along, but I still like the Tortugas in a close one, 3-2. We've also got the Entropy Raiders on the road for a much-needed vacation at DRH. ER has shown some mercy on the Hawks this season with minor wins, and look for that to continue, 3-0. Here's the shootout match of the week: Beirut visits the Valkeries. These two teams don't have a very friendly history, and this year Beirut has had the upper hand. Remember wayyy back to session A, though...it was a quiet time in the conference...things were just starting up...Beirut was awakening from a year-long slumber...and THEN...the Valkeries woke 'em up fast, outshooting Beirut 12-11 in a classic! Only Arafat saved the Blast, who escaped Valhalla with a 5-2 victory. Three sessions later, Beirut flattened the Valkeries at home, 7-0, behind another great performance (4 saves) by Arafat. This is going to be a tight one for Beirut, but the team needs a good challenge to gear up for the playoffs. Go with Beirut to win in a flurry of shots, 5-1. The final game on the match 19 docket has the Stupor visiting the 2nd place Tiburones. DS matches up pretty well against UT. These teams have played two close matches this year already, but DS is a very bad 1-8-0 on the raod while the Tiburones enjoy the 2nd best home record in the division. That adds up to a 6-0 win for UT. To round things out, I'll make a pick in what should also be a very big match between two teams struggling for that 2nd playoff spot behind the Blast: Valkeries at Amsterdam. Last week, I picked UT to upset Ajax in a similar sort of scenario, and I'm not going to make the same mistake twice (AA outshot UT 21-0, in case you've forgotten). This time, even though the Valkeries gave Ajax one of its only two home losses this year, I have to go with AA to win 4-1. [Tom T. Nose, Bud Bowl, Milwaukee] "What has gotten into you pukes?" was the exclamation that this reporter managed to overhear as he was trying to get into see Coach Eacker. He mentioned that maybe the guys can keep your heads on straight enough to beat the Red Hawks, but he was not all that certain. It sure is looking like the team is getting old and long in the tooth. Coach Eacker is hoping that the nnew blood that he has brought in will help to gete the team back on it's feet. He went on to say that he is looking at the rest of this year as a building season. Maybe he will be able to bring in some new talent from the off season. He is mainly hoping that he will be able to get some of the new boys trained in the coming sessions. Though with the number of times that the team has had it's hash fried over the last 4 or 5 sessions he is not sure :-(. TORTUGA TIDBITS - Tortuga management were left with pastry on their faces following a mix-up on the status of FW Carl Sawatski. Sawatski was suspended for a match, and management blindly assumed it would be Oxaxaca's NEXT match--what an odd assumption! When Sawatski took the pitch for the important match in Beirut, league officals on hand immediately called the referee over and DQ'ed him for the match. The Tortugas were shaken enough already from the tauntings of Blaster Burke, but this blow to the offense was too much. Rookie Del Crandall was sent packing and promising young veteran Marc Hill signed in his place as the Tortugas #2 goalkeeper. Team officials admitted that young Crandall had unlimited potential, but that his maturity level was too low for a team in the midst of a close race to get promoted. Key match this session is on the road versus the Tiburones, though a revenge win against the Goalmongers would be quite nice as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Hoary Marmot Fan Club News Volume 1 Number 6 ----------------------------------------------------------------- "It worked!" said head marmot, Goldstein, "Bullwinkle went 2-1-0" Well, this next session pits the hoary bunch against the top two teams in the division. If Bullwinkle can pull this one off, he will certainly be a contender for a coaching position next season (or at least a raise). Only a few more members of the original Marmots now remain on the team. It is expected that many of those will not last the offseason. Even big boot Gorilla may only last one more season. Marmot playoff tickets go on sale next Thursday with a limit of two tickets per person. Line up now! The deadline for session H will be Tuesday, February 11th, at 1PM. All lineups received before 10 PM Sunday 9th will receive a 0.5 CP Early Bird Bonus.
