[PBEM News] Looking for a Long-Term, Serious Game From: carl_314@yahoo-dot-com.no-spam.invalid (47_Ronin) Date: Sat, 07 Jan 2006 14:05:17 +0000 I've been stranded in the mountains of western Japan for not quite a decade, away from the gaming tables I spent so many years at, away from my gaming friends back home, and missing them both terribly. I have run a few D&D 2nd Ed. via PBEM in the past, (from here in Japan) and they went rather splendidly. I would very much like to play in one (any genre). A quick self introduction: I started gaming D&D 1st Edition when that is all there was (many years ago indeed). I have since played a huge variety of games of every genre. I have been through all the phases, from hack n' slash 52nd level fighter with a castle of gold (ridiculous, even humorous now, looking back) to the "Let's play evil characters" phase of assassins and black wizards. I have long since graduated to the belief that story is all. Combat, though thrilling at times, is often mere distraction from that which is most enjoyable, story and character development/interaction. I like a "serious, thinking game", meaning that I am not interested in a bloodfest or a string of sophmoric jokes. I like worlds that lean rather heavily on reality. In example, I love to play in worlds wherein magic is rare and viewed with awe, even feared. I love worlds wherein a dragon is a thing one will likely never see, let alone ride. I very much long to play in a world wherein death is a very real possibility, the risk of which is to be carefully measured against the goal. (Two of these examples refer to fantasy campaigns, but I love SF and other games as well). This "leaning on reality" idea of mine is subject to adjustment, of course. If you've a good story to tell through your game, regardless, I'm your man. I am not a rapid-pace gamer. Two or three well thought out posts a week is what I can steadily deliver, with the exception of combat rounds/turns, which are best resolved quickly. As for rules books, I own naught but D&D 2nd Ed books. I will require help if other systems will be used. As a final note to give you a general idea of my character, as regards tastes... My favorite games to date have been Dungeons and Dragons, ShadowRun, Justice Incorporated (HERO system 1920's), and Top Secret. Sincere regards from a gamer fishing for a bit of enjoyment to pass the days. carl_314@yahoo.com -- posted from PBEM News - PBEM listings and announcements Reply to this post at http://www.rpglibrary.org/news/ Up
