Battle Report from Xochithlan From: mward@maths-and-cs.dundee.ac.uk (Martin Ward) Date: Thu, 02 Apr 1992 22:10:42 +0000 [ I mailed this to four DM players a week ago, but at a suggestion, I decided to post it to the group. Maybe, more people will post about their warriors fighting in other arenas. I know I like to listen to a few good fights myself. ] Report for Turn 36 of Xochithlan (39). (Date: the last week of March. ) Prince Charming (AB) challenged my enemy's WST. The fight lasted 3 minutes, he hit PC twice in the first, almost defeating him. PC made one critical parry and three attack in the second, and one more in the third to win. He was using a Scimitar, and not a Dagger - his favourite weapon. The strategy was 9-7-9-S, 7-5-5, 7-3-5. He learned only one Decisiveness skill. I thought I could get the jump and beat the guy in the 1st, but it was a hard fight. Atomic Punk (PR) challenged an okay lunger. AP was knocked down twice in the 1st minute but got back up (he only has 11 Will.) He made a few attacks, parries, and dodges, and managed to win in the second. Strategy: 4-3-5, 5-2-3 (Desp. 3-5-3-R). Learned one Parry skill. Friendly Giant (19 Size Striker) was matched against a mediocre Slasher. Beat the guy with two hits. Was using a Hatchet. Learned one Attack and three Decisiveness skills, making AEX in Dec. Strategy: 10-10-7-D. This is how I like my fights to go. Bacchus (PL) was matched against a TP. Managed to beat him in two minutes, making lots of attacks, but no crits. Was using LO/SH. Learned no skills. Strategy: 9-7-7-L (only lasted one minute really.) Do you think I should try a different weapon, because he was not critting with the Longsword? Mischievous Imp (TP) matched against another TP. Fight lasted 13 minutes, with very few attacks by either. I managed to get in some hits, and the opponent did, too. MI lost. Used a SC/ME. Strategy: 2-3-2-P (1 & 2), 5-6-5 (3 on), 1-1-1-P (Desp.) Learned 1 Riposte, Decisiveness, and Parry. So, a 4-1 record. It put my team into 4th place on the 3-turn record. I was pleased, except for Prince Charming and Atomic Punk. I consider them sorta lucky to win, because both were on the ropes in the first minute. AP is now #8 in the whole arena. I am afraid he might not do too well against the better competition. He won, because the Lunger was tiring. And Prince Charming has just 8 CN (can not take a lot of damage )and nearly lost because he just does not have any Initiative to get in the first hits. Anyway, if any of you can offer help, then do. I don't expect you can give much, because you haven't read the fights, and you don't know my fighters like I do, of course. But anything would be of value, ie your own experiences with these styles. I don't expect to change FG's strategy one bit. He is wiping out the opposition. Okay, now for Mischievous Imp's stats. - Total Parry - Right handed - is a Genius -is an extremely crafty fighter -is always thinking of feints and ploys to be used in attacks -has made parrying an art form -he's always thinking a few steps ahead of his foes -never wastes his endurance needlessly -cannot carry a lot of weight -incredibly quick and elusive -making even dangerous opponents look harmless -does little damage ST = 10 CN = 15 SZ = 3 WT = 21 WL = 13 SP = 9 DF = 13 No experts. Damn. The Does Little Damage rating probably was why he didn't put the other TP away. Well, I had some time to type this in, so I figured you guys may be interested in the details of my arena fights. I hope you are, and that you can give me some advice. Hope I'm not being too much of a bother. Thanks. I sent in Atomic Punk, Friendly Giant, and Mischievous Imp to the tourney. I can't read the group. ] |a|} Marty Ward, computer science student from Acadia University, Wolfville, |l| Nova Scotia on exchange to the University of Dundee, Dundee, Scotland. |e| & Cerebus fanguy & b&w comics elitist & Apple IIe owner & DM player --- o^o E-mail: mward@mcs.dund.ac.uk or mward@maths-and-cs.dundee.ac.uk Up
