Re: Olympia combat From: eebonar@sn01.sncc.lsu.edu (DAVID BONAR) Date: Tue, 12 May 1992 23:22:11 +0000 Since no one else has thought of this I am inclined to think there is a major hole. Be that as it may, how about the following to deal with new players. Remove the new-player listing in the turn update. Remove the ability to get a full listing of players from the server (or update it only once a game year) Start new players in areas with no other players (or as few as possible when all regions have players) Taken together these should help mask the identity of newbies. Basically, if you can't tell the newbies they aren't as big of a target. Additionally, the rewards for combat should be brought back into line. As it stands, combat is way too cost effective. Old or new, if you are wandering around you had better have an armed troop with you or you are meat (I do not know how the recent combat changes have effected this). I support the idea that flee should be implemented at the beginning of combat. It should have a greater chance of success then also (to simulate running when you see the band of ten men comming towards you or when you hear that someone is looking for you). Another change would be to rewrite the flee command so that money was rarely if ever lost when fleeing. It seems more logical to lose goods and other big items then coins.
