Re: E-mail Basic Civilization From: pwork@afit.af.mil (Paul R. Work) Date: Thu, 07 May 1992 19:34:58 +0000 Howdy Y'all, Well, the first game of E-mail Civilization is underway! This will be a summary of details that have been worked out to allow for the E-mail format. Anyone else who wants to organize a game is free to do so. Any questions about any further details are also welcome. The turns will be on a three week basis using strictly a Monday to Friday schedule as follows: Week 1: Day 1: Collect Taxation, Population Expansion, Census, and Construct ships. Day 2 - 5: Player movement. Week 2: Day 6: Resolve conflict (if any), build cities, remove surplus population, reduce unsupported cities, acquire trade cards, begin trading. Day 7 - 10: Trade. Week 3: Day 11 - 13 Trading continued. Day 14: Acquire Civilization cards, return excess trade cards. Day 15: Resolve calamities, move succession markers on AST. We will try and get at least two players' moves in each day of player movement, so that things move quickly enough. This will be accomplished by having each moving player send his move to all other players as well as the referee. In the trading phase, players are free to correspond with each other to arrange any trade they want. Once they have finalized a trade, each player will send a message to the referee describing the trade according to the rules of Basic Civilization (three cards, xx points with yyyyy). If the details of the messages agree in the necessary content, the referee then posts a message to all players informing them of the trade, and another message to each player involved in the trade in question informing them of exactly what they received (yes, its still possible to trade away calamities or screw the other player). In the beginning, acquiring Civilization cards shouldn't pose a problem, although that might create a bottleneck late in the game. Followups detailing game progress will be posted if there is sufficient interest.
