Olympia Flight Before Combat From: M22367@mwvm.mitre.org Date: Fri, 15 May 1992 14:28:32 +0000 In response to R. Wallace's concerns about flight before combat: Currently, when someone flees they seem to simply duck down an alley and escape. Would it be more useful/fun/interesting if flight before combat meant they had to really *leave* the place the encounter would have taken place? 500 crack troops come looking for James Resolut in Chardia. Rather than standing and fighting until wounded 50%, he lights out through the nearest city gate. He doesn't check the roadmap first - he just bugs the heck outa town. Perhaps he runs straight into the wilderness and gets munched by trolls the next day. What if 'flight before combat' resulted in the fleeing unit taking a randomly chosen exit from their current location. That way, the fleeing unit is not just dodging its pursuers, shouting "Nya-nya-n-nya-nya, you can't catch me!" The fleeing unit doesn't get killed, but they are seriously inconvenienced. Maybe they even drop something in their haste to get away... Don't forget, every posting I have made about this subject I have requested that 'STEALTH' be a consideration. Newbies would likely still be easy meat. - Mike (James Resolut 888) Referenced By Up
