Olympia and Newbies

After thinking about this a bit, and listening to what other people
had to say on the subject, here's my 2 cents.

First off, scatter newbies across the known lands, don't sequester them
on their own little island.  Yes, some might be killed as easy targets, but
others could quickly become allies/apprentices/lackeys of more established
players.  In this way, the older players would be a stabilizing force on
the new players until they reach sufficient skill to start some real fighting.

Second, I like the idea of new players being "invisible" for a turn so
that they have a chance to spend some of their money.  The rationalization is
that all players are just normal people doing normal things.  No-one notices
the Drassan skullery maids and all the rest of the population.  Since newbies
on their first turn haven't done anything yet, they should be part of the
woodwork.  However, once the first turn happens, they become noticed as
somewhat more powerful people.  So, all this requires is that on the birth turn
(ie. the intial setup report turn), their names not appear in any of location
descriptions.  After that, they'll have a chance to form a guard and defen
themselves.
