Actually there are two (or if you wish, three) different games of this
type. First of all there is Dominion, the game for which you saw the
post here. It is available from max.physics.sunysb.edu. Then there is
Conquer available from cs.bu.edu. For conquer two versions are
available. The relatively old, but completed and stable version 4.10
and a completely rewritten version 5.0pl27 beta. Version 5.0 is
playable today and is easily the most sophisticated of all these games,
but it is still more bug ridden than either of the other two and still
lacks NPCs. Conquer 4.10 and Dominion more similar, but I for one
prefer the flavour of Conquer, although Dominion is fun, too. A serious
deficiency of all three of them, is that none of them has a network
client/server architecture like empire has. That means that you will
have an account on the machine where the game runs and telnet there.

A new network game of Dominion is to start any day now. It is to have
daily updates (to get back to that nastiness in the other thread :-) )
and only a limited number of players, but if you want to join, try
mailing brown@max.physics.sunysb.edu.

Yes, actually r.g.empire is the right forum for it and I think that is
where you will find the future posts on both Conquer and Dominion.
