Duelmasters: DM Rollups From: ccmdenis@george.ucdavis.edu (Donald Trump) Date: Fri, 29 May 1992 01:55:04 +0000 >This is my first Roll Ups for DM. I would appreciate any help, or advise, >or both that you could give me on these guys. I've been reading all the >DM posts, and can't wait to get these back to RSI. Congrats! Remember not to take anything anyone says too seriously. Duelmasters is a game of exploration, and if anyone tells you you're a fool for not taking their advice, just ignore them. My suggestions (in fact, what I would do with this team): >9 12 10 14 5 10 10 10-12-10-17-9-11-15 AB The high WT and low WL points to a style that conserves endurance well: Striking, Aimed Blow, Total Parry, and Parry-Riposte. Of these, I prefer the AB simply because he's much more versatile than the ohter styles. If you look in the Red Book, you will see that he can be offensively modified with the Lunge, Bash, or Slash tactics, and can Dodge fairly well. I would run him SC vs. light armor (0,7), SS vs. medium armor (8,14), and LO vs. heavy armor (15,+) wearing ALE/L and training ST (to become well suited to the LO and LS). I would run him 10-10-6-HE-BD-None for the first minute, 8-6-8-HE-BD-None for the second, and 6-4-6-HE-BD for the 3rd and on, changing to 2-10-4-BD-LE-Dodge in desperation. >9 14 11 5 13 5 13 You've got yourself a winning machine here! He won't be able to last very long in the arena, however, because he won't learn skills, and will soon be outstripped by the competition, but in the first 6-10 fights he should do exceptionally well. 11-14-11-5-17-9-17 LU The main trouble with this guy is that you can only get WT to 11, which isn't really enough to help him out in the long-run. Rather than making a bad long-term characte, then, you can make an excellent short-term one. I would run him in no body armor or helm, using a SS vs light armor (0,7), and a Long Spear against all others (8,+). Run him 10-10-10-AB-LE- Lunge for the first minute, 10-8-8-AB-LE-Lunge for the 2nd, and then 8-6-8-AB-LE-Lunge for the 3rd on. Try 3-9-3-AB-LE-Dodge in desperation. >9 4 16 12 15 9 5 13-5-16-17-17-9-7 BA I don't know what anyone else is telling you to do with this guy, but he looks like an awfully good basher to me. The low DF won't really hurt him, because bashers have a various assortment on low DF weapons to use (WH requires a 7 and the MA requires a 3). ST 13 SZ 16 almost guarantees great damage, with a possibility for tremendous, and his high WT and WL means that he will learn skills, and thus improve, at a pretty good rate. I would run him in ALE/L, using a WH vs. light (0,14) and Mace vs. all others (15,+). Go 10-5-6-HE-HE-Decis for the first minute, 10-6-8-HE-HE-Decis for the second, 10-4-8-HE-HE-None for 3 and 4, then 8-2-8-HE-HE-None for 5th and 6thon. In desperation go 10-4-7-HE-HE-Bash and hope for the best. :) I really like this guy! >5 10 11 14 5 15 10 Another high WT, low WL guy. In this case, though, I agree with John White: go Striker. 7-10-11-17-9-15-15 ST The striking attack conserves endurance the best out of all the various offensives styles, save only Aimed Blows. This guy can use any of the small weapons (DA, HA, SH, EP) and can use some of the larger ones with only a minimum penalty. His SZ should insure at least normal damage despite the low ST, and his 17 WT will give him a pretty good learning curve. Try running him in ALE/L, going 10-10-6-HE-HE-Decis for the first minute, backing off to 10-8-8-HE-HE-Decis for the second, and then 8-4-8-HE-HE-None for the 3rd through 6thon. In desperation, go 4-7-4-RA-BD-Responsiveness. For weapon selection, I would choose DA/DA vs light (0,7), EP vs. medium (8,14) and SC vs. heavy (15,+). In general, I would try to avoid the heavily armored types! >10 12 11 11 4 13 9 Once again, we have a high WT low WL wonder. Since the SP is pretty good, I would suggest trying something slightly different with this guy: demon PR. 11-12-11-17-5-13-15 PR He's not exactly long-term, but he's got a chance to do really well, and should even start out with Expert Riposte on the roll-up (which cna never hurt you!). His main problems will be that he won't have much endurance, his initial parry rating will be pretty poor, and his attack rating will suffer miserably because of his low WL. However, I've seen this type of design succeed again and again. You'll need to rely on his ability to take damage, because this PR's going to have to go light. Try ALE/H, using EP/DA vs. light (0,7), SS/DA vs. medium (8,14) and LO/DA vs. heavy (15,+). Run him like a PR right from the beginning, going 3-5-3-RA-BD-Riposte in the first, 3-4-3-RA-BD-None in the second, and 4-5-4-RA-BD-None from the 3rd on, except in desperation, when you should try 2-4-2-RA-BD-Parry. If he loses his first 3 or 4 fights, I'd say that you should probably Dark Arena this guy. I actually like this team a lot, and I think that it has a chance to do fairly well. It should definitely be able to keep its head above .500, and possibly run into the .550-.600 range. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to post them! Donald Trump Up
