New PBeM Game! - Survey From: smneyln@ariel.lerc.nasa.gov (Michael Neylon) Date: Thu, 18 Jun 1992 07:51:00 +0000 I wish to start a PBeM game if theres enough interest. The game of my own creation (haven't thought of a name yet), will be space-based. I would like 5-6 people (at least to start with). Turns will be twice a week ( Mon. and Thur.) The game will be played on a 25x25 grid. Each player is given a base planet and credits to spend on ships and stuff. The general object of the game is to take over everyone elses home planet. Each turn, a player can collect his credits, and spend them on new ships, special items, or on tech levels (see below). The player then will have 6 commands to issue, including probing, moving, and launching an attack. If opposing forces land on the same space, a battle will ensue. Outcome is based on offensive and defensive power of the two fleet. Tech levels are also available in 4 areas: offensive (weapons), defensive (shields), movement (engines), and scouting (range of). Each tech has 4 levels, and will give you a bonus for having that level. For example, Off. tech level one will add 1 to the offensive value of each ship. I also plan to sell 'special items' from time to time. These include: planet bombs, starbases, and cloaking devices. Each of these will have an effect on game play, and rules for their uses will be described when they are on sale. Truces will be allowed, and communications between players will be allowed. I dont think I will give away email address unless I need to. Finally, I will allow research and develope from the players. If a player would like to develope something not in the game, he can approach me for approval and cost. I will also allow players to sell items to the others, and request items from others. This will work on a silent auction type thing. For selling, highest bidder wins, and for buying, lowest bidder wins. I would like to start the game by june 29 (a week from this coming Monday). Please send your requests to me by june 25 (next Thur.) so that I can send you a full description of the rules. You can contact me at: smneyln@ariel.lerc.nasa.gov This is the first PBeM game I have run, so please be patient if I make mistakes or such. Also, I may have to make some rule changes during the game. These will be WELL announced, and I will try to not ruin anyone's strategy or position. Hopefully, it will only be in the combat system and nothing else. --- Mike Neylon aka Masem the Great and Almighty Thermo GOD! smneyln@venus.lerc.nasa.gov smneyln@mars.lerc.nasa.gov Take your pick! smneyln@ariel.lerc.nasa.gov -+ How do YOU spell 'potato'?... +- Up
